  1. QUOTE(TLAK @ Apr 11, 2006 -> 11:27 PM) I was mildly surprised that Oz used Uribe as a defensive sub for Cintron in the 9th innning. Sending in Anderson for Mackowiak was a little more obvious, with the big outfield in Comerica. The guys the White Sox sub FOR are better defensively than the starters on a lot of MLB teams. There still have been some questions regarding Cintron's defense. He's not bad by any stretch of means, but he's not a very good defender either. Just shows how lucky we are to have Uribe's quality D at SS really.
  2. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Apr 11, 2006 -> 08:36 AM) Agreed very much. We need a leadoff hitter than we can depend on for a .350 OBP at the very least...if Pods can't do it, he needs to be replaced. He was wonderful for the Sox in the early part of last year getting on base and causing all kinds of havoc, and he probably hit the biggest homer in Sox history, but that doesn't mean he can't be replaced. One does have to give him some time to see if he can regain his ability...but you don't have all season. You have about a month, and if he can't get in game shape, then he's no better than a 4th OFer. Which is why I'll be very suprised if Pods is around next season. You've got Owens down in AAA who could fill in as the leadoff hitter, and you're not going to re-sign Pods if he doesn't have a season like he did last year. Not to mention, other teams are probably going to offer him some good money.
  3. I think I read yesterday on Rotoworld that Tabata was already hitting over .500 down at A ball IIRC. That's the type of player we should be hoping we can get from the new baseball academy down in Venezuela. I've heard big wraps on Gonzalez as well. Are the D-Backs loaded with position prospects or what. They could just target pitching with say 8 out of their first 10 picks in the draft this year, because they really need to get some good young pitching in there.
  4. QUOTE(RME JICO @ Apr 11, 2006 -> 08:09 PM) What, would you expect him to say they suck? Of course a player is going to say that his team is better. This is really no big deal. Exactly or else they mighten else bother. It's not as bad as what Young said last year anyways.
  5. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Apr 11, 2006 -> 01:50 PM) Orlando is just on fire, another win tonight in a blowout over Atlanta. Philly and Indiana also won however, which is bad news for both of us DBAH0 Yep we're still doing our part, 2 1/2 games behind the Bulls now. But I was banking on Philly losing to Washington. I expect them to finish up on 37 wins now (beating Charlotte). If they happen to win another game on top of that, we'd have to win our last 5 games to tie. Since that includes the Spurs away, I don't know if we can do that. Still possible though, but we have to win at least 4 out of 5, probably 5. Oh and Jameer Nelson, how so many teams passed on him, well they're cursing their luck now. And Hedo Turkloglu has thrived in the 2nd half, and has become a pretty damn good offensive SF because he's taking the ball to the hoop more and not settling for the easy jumper.
  6. Assuming we pick up his team option for next season (no brainer at this point), this could play out a lot like the Barry Zito situation currently. If there was no chance of Buerhle re-signing with us, and say St. Louis offered a trade deal involving players like Anthony Reyes, Adam Wainwright etc. would you possibly be interested in that? But KW has done a fantastic job in getting our SP's locked up to good fair contracts for both parties, and I think he can do the same here.
  7. We're coming 101, we're coming. HUGE win in Miami today, and we beat em hands down as well. That's 8 of 9 now, and we're 3 games back. It could come down to the final day when we play Indiana. They are really starting to implode.
  8. QUOTE(PeteDogg @ Apr 9, 2006 -> 11:34 PM) What happened to Leo Daigle? I was searching to see if he moved up in the organization after an outstanding year in 2005 and I see he is on Baltimore's AA team. Did he get traded? Daigle went from Winston Salem to Charlotte and did nothing, so he left as a minor league FA IIRC or something like that. After all he was putting up those numbers in only high A ball.
  9. Time for Buerhle to step up with a good outing, our bullpen to do the job when called upon, and for our hitters to get on the board early against Elarton. Elarton's not going to strike us out a lot at all. The key for our hitters is to be patient, work the counts, and DON't swing at ball 4. Get runners on base, and he ain't a good pitcher.
  10. About the 3rd time I've heard this rumor; Would still prefer Brandon Roy in the draft though.
  11. Not really a good start for anyone there is it. If Viz keeps putting up outing like that, it won't take long for the D-Backs fans to get into him.
  12. From Dayn Perry :puke, but still it's an interesting list;
  13. I know Don Cooper said Broadway could be the pitcher in the minors that could make a quick rise thru the system, but Tyler Lumsden is really the one I think that could do that, if his arm is indeed 100% after that surgery he had. Great first outing he had today.
  14. QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Apr 9, 2006 -> 06:37 PM) I like how Dbaho has the thought of bulls and sixers going 2-4 each while the magic will win what 6 games... it aint happening buddy get ready for the off-season lol no playoffs for you. Hey I've gotta look positive. Nobody probably would have given us a chance of beating Dallas and Detroit and we did that. We've got to take that form on the road now, which probably isn't going to happen, but it's still possible. I think we can beat the Pacers (they're really struggling right now, lost 2 in a row to the Knicks of all team, and apparently Rick Carlisle almost has a player mutiny on his hands there). Miami and San Antonio, we'll be very lucky to win 1, hopefully the Heat will rest Shaq. The other games I think, if we play the way we have in the last 2 weeks, we should win those.
  15. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Apr 9, 2006 -> 05:52 PM) God I love small sample sizes. What would those #'s be if you excluded our first game and the Indians second game? Or if Ozuna caught those 2 fly balls? Or Pods had a few steals? Or Dye had played mor ethan 1/2 our games? Points taken, but you can't argue that early on that if one or two of our SP's are off (like Garcia and Garland have been), it's going to make a difference in terms of the more amount of runs we give up this season (not to mention the difference in guys in the pen).
  16. QUOTE(RME JICO @ Apr 9, 2006 -> 07:13 PM) Dickey had one of the worst outings ever. He was throwing a knuckler that looked like he was throwing out the first pitch for a charity, it was ridiculous. The Tigers always had a good offense, and it has definitely looked better due to the opposing pitchers. Still way to early to make judgements on anyone. There's no doubt their offense has improved. But they've got a lot of name players who have based their offensive output on 1 or 2 good seasons. For example, Maggs was great for us no question. But he's not a good power hitter at Comerica at all. He has 3 HR's in something like 300 AB's there. Pudge had an OBP of .290 last season. But at least he's shown a propensity a walk a little more so far, but can he do it for a whole season? Can Shelton keep up his torrid pace? I'll wait until they start facing some aces on other team staff, before I can tell whether or not their offense has seriously improved to another level.
  17. QUOTE(SleepyWhiteSox @ Apr 9, 2006 -> 05:08 PM) Exactly. So far in 5 games we've given up just over on average 5 runs a game, while scoring just over 4. Last season we only gave up on average 3.98 runs a game. It's amazing what giving up just over an extra run can make to a team.
  18. QUOTE(greg775 @ Apr 9, 2006 -> 02:23 PM) p.s. I don't like boone Logan's delivery. He'd be down at Great Falls if it wasn't changed.
  19. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Apr 9, 2006 -> 03:04 PM) This incredible Tigers offense has also faced the dominating pitching staffs of the Kansas City Royals and the Texas Rangers. These are the starting pitchers they have faced so far; Scott Elarton Joe Mays R.A Dickey John Koronka Kevin Millwood Count me unimpressed. They also only have 10 BB's in 153 AB's so far. They can't hit .327 forever.
  20. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Apr 9, 2006 -> 04:31 PM) And both are finished, unless the Bulls and Philly both go 2-4 or worse. But at the same time, the Bulls effort was pathetic tonight, even without Deng. They made things way harder than they had to be. I can see the Bulls beating the Hawks and Raptors, but the other 4 (Nets, Wizards, Heat, Magic) will be tough. 2-4 is very, very possible for them. 76ers should beat the Bobcats, but have 5 tough games. They should take 2-4 if they can get it. Which means Orlando would have to win 6 to tie (dunno what happens with tie-breaker), or 7 to pass both. They have 7 to play.
  21. QUOTE(whitesoxin' @ Apr 9, 2006 -> 03:30 PM) I don't think Noah would be a big fan of Skiles.. He has no shot outside of 5 feet?
  22. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Apr 9, 2006 -> 09:05 AM) Bulls vs. Sixers tonight on the West Side. Win and we're in, and all of a sudden trying to get the #7 or #6 is a legit thought. Loss and it's a dogfight just to get in. Pretty big game indeed. Wow the Bulls lost to Philly and they didn't even have Webber. Now things get interesting, real interesting. Boston are 3 games back, and Orlando 3.5 back with about 6-7 games left to play.
  23. I think today obviously showed the importance of having a great bullpen last season, and it's one of the main reasons why we won so many 1 run games last year. Great start by Vazquez though. Deserved better.
  24. QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Apr 9, 2006 -> 01:20 AM) I think we all realized that Isiah will give anyone any amount of money. Especially if you're over 6'9.
  25. Hopefully the Royals don't get some extra base hits off Vazquez's flyballing ways. But I expect him to have a dominant first outing. He's got something to prove this season, Vazquez, make no mistake about that.
