  1. Good individual performances to note; Donny Lucy for WS went 2 for 3, with a BB, a 2B and a HR. Gomes in the #5 spot should be interesting to watch this season. Liotta gave up 1ER in 5IP. Only 2 K's with 2 BB's though, always been the question mark on him. Valido 2 for 4 in the #2 hole, with a double. Collaro homered. Salvador Sanchez went 2 for 3 with a BB, Francisco Hernandez 2 for 4 with a 2B. Rodriguez didn't give up an ER in 6IP.
  2. I'm going to the Dentist in 3 weeks, haven't been for 18 months (my Dentist sends out reminder cards in the mail). So it's time for the max brushing and flossing to begin.
  3. QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Apr 7, 2006 -> 01:18 AM) you can argue against the Bulls and Indiana.... even though I think both are better teams. But Milwaukee is clearly better than the magic. I don't know about that. They've really struggled in the 2nd half, and we were beating them by as much as 20 in the 3rd quarter last night.
  4. A joint PWN3ING. How long until Kotex Boy's Rebuttal I wonder.
  5. QUOTE(YASNY @ Apr 6, 2006 -> 06:18 PM) This thread being here was so predictable. Just like every time Ozzie used someone in any situation last year that wasn't one of our studs. Every time. Yet when October rolled around, our regulars were fresh, our bench was sharp and our bullpen was battle tested. Yet, all year Ozzie was an idiot. I suppose the argument you're going to get from that, is that we have to get to the playoffs first. But if we can get there, going through what you've said I certainly won't be complaining.
  6. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Apr 6, 2006 -> 04:51 PM) Good stuff by the way. I absolutley love Cunningham and I'm very interested to see the progress of Fransisco and Brooks. Brandon Allen intrigues me as well. A lot of talent in Kanny this year. Same on Cunningham. He just looks like one of those guys who knows how to hit, and getting him in the 7th round looks like an excellent pick. Hopefully Hernandez does a lot better in his 2nd stop at Kanny as well.
  7. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Apr 6, 2006 -> 03:38 PM) Wow, the Braves pen REALLY sucks. And yet their best reliever Joey Devine is down in AAA. Where's Leo when ya need him.
  8. QUOTE(rventura23 @ Apr 6, 2006 -> 03:10 PM) best song ever, no exaggeration You'll get no argument from me on that.
  9. Remember those days when we had those threads with some of the fans crying poor, about how JR didn't put enough money into the team, yet the "sane" people argued that payroll HAD increased over the past 5 seasons? Ahhh those were the days. But it shows how far this team has come in such a short period of time since last season. And let's just enjoy the ride while we can.
  10. Another day, another Magic Home Win. And it's a shame we'll miss out on the playoffs because I think we're a better team than Chicago, Milwaulkee and possibly Indiana right now. Big time win for the Bulls today though. But really the gameplan against the 76ers is simple. Stop Iverson and Webber and you win. They just don't have a 3rd scoring option at all right now.
  11. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Apr 6, 2006 -> 03:21 PM) Boone is going to be just fine here. He's going to have a few rough spots but I like what I see out of him. I'm more worried about Thornton to be honest. I'm on the opposite boat, and I only think that's because with the changes Coop has made to Thornton's delivery and with his stuff, he can succeed here.
  12. QUOTE(q\/\/3r+y @ Apr 6, 2006 -> 03:18 PM) Obp is not even as big of concern as strike zone judgement is. We have some guys that take hacks at pitches a foot out of the zone. Mackowiak and cintron both should have walked easily today. Basically anyone on this team has a full count or are ahead in the count they are looking to put the ball in play without even acknowledging there is another way to get on base.. I wish they would take a more laid back approach (like the red sox and yankees) and wait for the right pitch... and hit it to the field it is intended for. Konerko fouled off a ball four today... was very outside... then follows it up with a swinging strike out at the ankles. This team has a randall simon approach up there. Excellent point there. And it's probably the #1 issue Greg Walker needs to work on with his hitters right now.
  13. QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Apr 6, 2006 -> 01:16 PM) Great point cuz Gload will barely be playing any 1B this season unless Konerko gets hurt. Our best hitter off the bench and Ozzie apparently doesn't like using him. Frustrating. Another reason as to why Bucky Jacbosen didn't stick with us as well. They were using Gload as an OF in ST, so if they're not going to do that in the regular season, why would you do that in the 1st place if you're not going to use him, and why would you keep him on the roster?
  14. QUOTE(fathom @ Apr 6, 2006 -> 02:33 PM) Why is this issue a surprise to anyone? Iguchi complained last year about having to sit so frequently, as he said he loses his rhythm when it happens. Wasn't Ozzie going to use Tad more this season as well (IIRC he said something like that a while back)? All this stuff does is heighten the speculation that we won't pick up Iguchi's option at the end of the season, and Cintron becomes the new 2nd baseman.
  15. QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Apr 6, 2006 -> 03:04 PM) Other options would start with Javier Lopez I'm sure. And then if Lopez doesn't work, maybe Ozzie will realize that you don't always have to play the lefty/lefty matchup game. You can just use one of your good righty relievers. I doubt this happens though. Ozzie loves the lefty/lefty matchup far too much. Who said that Cotts only had to face Hafner? Bring him in to face Hafner and more. I know everyone fell in love with Logan here, and like 3E8 I personally though Lopez was probably the better option. When it's all said and done, Logan has gone from the rookie league to the majors, and even if he's not going to walk a lot of guys, it won't matter if he's going to give up the longball a lot. At least Lopez has a history of being a fairly good groundball pitcher. But hopefully Boone proves me wrong, and because a success story for the Sox. As for Cotts, of course he should be used for the whole 8th inning. He's our best set-up guy, and all I was saying is that he shouldn't be used as a LOOGY like Logan is, even though he's by far the better reliever. Why Ozzie didn't use him today in that situation, I don't know.
  16. QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Apr 6, 2006 -> 01:55 PM) Not upset, just concerned (mainly about the offense). Thome is a huge upgrade at DH and Anderson will probably be around status quo with 2005 Rowand but the rest of our lineup is the same. Our hitters still give up far too many easy outs. I think we will struggle again this season with team OBP, and that is the single most important offensive team stat. I don't see the bottom of our order (Pierzynski, Crede, Uribe, and Anderson) being much better than last season. They just don't hit for average or draw enough walks. But I guess we won with great pitching and the longball last season so it's possible to do the same again this season. I'd like to make a few points here; 1) I do think our bottom of our order will be better than last season. I think we'll see more of the late 2005 Joe Crede and Juan Uribe, than what we saw from them for the 1st 4 months of 2005. Crede hit .267 post ASB and Uribe .257 post ASB (.304 in September). If they can both hit around .270 which I think is definitely possible, that's an upgrade on 2005. And then you've got Pierzynski who hit for his lowest BA in his major league career in 2005. If he can get back to the hitter he was in Minnesota, that's an upgrade. Those 3 guys, don't strike out a ton either, so they won't hurt you too much in that regard. 2) Is team OBP really the most important offensive stat? The Florida Marlins had the 4th highest team OBP in 2005 with .339. They only scored 717 runs. We had a team OBP of .322 and we scored 741 runs. It's important no doubt, but if you have a balanced lineup that can still hit for power (like we do), you'll still score runs.
  17. We heard a lot about Logan's "ability" to throw strikes in ST and get the job done. But ST is ST. This is why he's up here for. To get tough lefties like Hafner out. If he's unable to do that, then we probably need to start looking for other options, even though it's WAY too early to make a knee jerk reaction. I don't really buy the lefty argument much with Cotts. He had better splits against righties last season, and he's our most dominating reliever, so you shouldn't bring him in just to face 1 lefty.
  18. QUOTE(fathom @ Apr 6, 2006 -> 12:13 PM) Here's where I don't understand Gload being on the roster. We need another righty outfielder. I don't want to see Ozuna playing RF. It brings up the whole Gload vs. Borch argument again. If they're not going to use Gload in an OF position, I don't really see the need for keeping him either, even though he's a great bat to have off the bench.
  19. Let's hope that day to day, suddenly doesn't turn into a week, then 2 weeks etc. Jermaine's an important part of this offense, when his bat is hot.

  22. QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Apr 6, 2006 -> 12:04 AM) And on top of that, he is upset at management for not giving him a deal in the offseason. Probably because he saw Grady Sizemore and Jhonny Peralta get new long - term deals I'd imagine.

  24. QUOTE(bulokis @ Apr 5, 2006 -> 08:36 AM) We just need people in front of him to get on base. And that alone raises the question of whether Iguchi sacrificing to move Scotty across, is really the right thing to do. When you look at it, it's an argument of whether you want to get 1 run which is more of a sure thing, or whether you want to possibility of more runs if you want to run the risk of Iguchi swinging the bat more. It would make for an interesting discussion, the way Ozzie used smallball last year.
  25. QUOTE(Colorado Sox Fan @ Apr 5, 2006 -> 03:31 AM) Willie Harris was sent to Pawtucket So much for that being a "great" signing.
