  1. QUOTE(daa84 @ May 18, 2006 -> 09:35 AM) its amazing hitting .342 that pierzynski only has 9 RBI this year.... i guess thats what happens when the three guys in front of him are driving everyone in So long as he keeps that OPS above .800 all year long, I'm happy either way.
  2. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ May 18, 2006 -> 09:32 AM) Garland busted everyone inside, love it. You said that's what he needs to do. Maybe he's been listening.
  3. QUOTE(aboz56 @ May 18, 2006 -> 09:14 AM) Let's see how Nelson does before we make a deal. Our pen can still be solid with Mac, Nelson, Politte, Cotts and Jenks. See when people say our bullpen sucks, how do they know trading a really good young prospect for a bullpen arm will be the right move, when you've got Thornton who hasn't been used much, and Lopez, Nelson and Tracey down in AAA who could all get a shot by the year's out (plus Hermy could always come back at some point).
  4. Nice DP there on Gomes. About a year back, I really wanted to trade for Gomes when he was in AAA. It looked like the D-Rays weren't going to give him an oppurtunity, and he was crushing AAA pitching, and now he's carried that over to the majors. He's got great raw power, and he's a building block for that team.
  5. I hate this time of year when the sun rises at 7, and it's dark by 5:30. I suppose I don't have to put up with your chilly winter's though.
  6. None of their 4 established starting pitchers are "second - half" pitchers either FWIW.
  7. Jaiver Lopez, come on down. We were told in ST by those who said Logan would be good for the pen, because "he threw strikes". Well so much for that logic.
  8. QUOTE(SSH2005 @ May 17, 2006 -> 06:00 PM) 1) Cuz our bullpen sucks. 2) Josh Fields if we lock up Crede to a long-term deal. I do not want to trade Josh Fields for a pitcher for the bullpen. EDIT: Unless you're getting a young stud like Jonathan Broxton.
  9. So wait a minute, Chris Widger catches and we only conceed 3 runs?? Glad to see Machowiak get 3 hits as well. It's May, so he better start producing (like he usually does).
  10. The thing is if the Twins dealt Hunter, they would have to go outside the organization to replace him. Denard Span a former 1st round pick a while back is showing no power down at AA, and isn't ready to take over. I don't know who else is on the upcoming FA market in terms of CF's off the top of my head, but I'm guessing it probably won't be better than Hunter. But he's not worth the $12M that Minnesota will have to pay him. My guess is they'll trade him to a team for prospects, that includes a good center fielder among them.
  11. If Pods wants to get a new long - term deal, he's probably going to have to keep hitting like this for the majority of the remainder of the season, especially with the way Josh Fields has gone about his business in Charlotte.
  12. Watching Joe Crede for the past season and a 1/4 has been a pleasure to watch both defensively and offensively. For the amount of money he's making, he's one of the best value players in the LEAGUE right now.
  13. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ May 16, 2006 -> 08:02 AM) Where did you hear this? I wonder what they would offer back, expiring contracts and a future 1st perhaps? Don't worry, I found it; Quentin Richardson as the guard perhaps (even though his contract ain't very good, would be better than Marbury or Francis). Oh you could even have Jalen Rose since he has an expiring contract.
  14. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ May 16, 2006 -> 03:32 AM) Chad Tracy has been given a 4 year extension by the D-Backs. I remember during the off-season, when I wanted to trade for Tracy before we got Thome, that some people thought he may be due for a regression this season, kind of like Aaron Rowand in 2005. Looks like that isn't the case so far.
  15. Good to see Charlie pitch a good game after his stint up with us.
  16. Get him locked up, I don't care what it costs, the man's proven his worth.
  17. QUOTE(RockRaines @ May 16, 2006 -> 02:02 AM) Apparently we are in talks with the knicks and are going to trade them Gordon? Where did you hear this? I wonder what they would offer back, expiring contracts and a future 1st perhaps?
  18. Wow that's just absolutely terrible. Hopefully they get what's coming to em.
  19. I don't think Francisco Hernandez has had THAT bad of a start this season. Albeit he has 1HR in 102 AB's which ain't really acceptable, but he's got good plate discipline with a 11/8 K/BB ratio, which is a lot better than other hitting prospects in our system. But he needs to show something power wise soon. Our version of Juan Gonzalez however, has no plate discipline at all with a 33/5 K/BB ratio.
  20. I expected more out of Eric Bedard so far. Looks like the Mazzone effect hasn't quite kicked in in Baltimore yet. Daniel Cabrera as well. Jeff Weaver hasn't been good at all in Anaheim. Nor has Joe Blanton in Oakland.
  21. It's been very good having 2 suprises in 2 seasons with the way Chris Young handled AA last season, and now the way Fields is tearing up AAA pitching. If he keeps improving with the bat the way he has in his minor league career, he should definitely stick at the major league level, even if it ain't gonna be at 3rd base. And if he does, suddenly the Sox's last 3 1st round selections are starting to look better by the day, even though Broadway hasn't proven himself above AA yet.

QUOTE(Tony82087 @ May 15, 2006 -> 03:22 PM) And pound batters inside.... Yeah good point there Tony. I haven't seen JG pitch on TV much since I don't obviously get to watch much of the Sox at all, but it seemed last season especially early when we were pitching so well, we were challenging hitters inside a lot.
  23. So how many hits has he given up in his past 4 starts now? It always seems that when he's in one of these slumps (and he will go thru one a season), that he will be giving up a lot of hits.

QUOTE(BigSqwert @ May 15, 2006 -> 03:29 AM) He played a good half of a season and had 1 good post season game. Good half of a season? I guess a 3.65 ERA in the 2nd half of 2005 really ain't doin enough there for ya ain't it. In response to Kalapse's post about the bad August and September, I think that's mainly due to him walking more guys in those months than any other in 2005. He's a real fine line pitcher in terms of his control. We just have to hope Coop can get him back to throwing those strikes early in the count.
  25. But I want Darin Erstad DADGUMMIT! The thing that's impressed me about Brian lately though and this season, he'll actually take a walk. Albeit 11BB's in 91 AB's ain't impressive, but compared to a Jeff Francouer and for a rookie, it's pretty good.
