Just waiting for the Matt Garza >>>>> Lance Broadway post now.

QUOTE(3E8 @ May 18, 2006 -> 04:05 PM) All we can hope for is for Anderson is to keep up the stellar defense and work on improving his contact rate at the plate. Yep absolutely, and I think in the last week or 2 in terms of him making contact he has done a better job of that (well before he faced Scott Kazmir). For a team built around pitching and defense though, he is certainly doing his part in terms of that aspect.

Who honestly believes Maroth is going to have an ERA under 3 for the rest of the season? I just can't see their offense continuing to hit the way it has, when they show not much plate discipline at all, and their SP will come back down to earth.
-
I think there's also always the possibility if Pods does leave, that the Sox could go into the trade market to get a new leadoff hitter. For example a Jon Garland and Juan Uribe for Rafael Furcal and Jonathan Broxton type of offer, that could be mutially beneficial for both sides. Iguchi could be ok as a leadoff hitter, provided he can continue hitting around the .290-.300 mark. The 33/9 K/BB ratio he had before tonight's game however shows his plate discipline isn't ideal for the role. Of course if Sweeney was going to play RF for you (unlikely considering Jermaine Dye's form), you could always thrust him into the leadoff role kind of like how the Indians did it with Grady Sizemore, although that's a lot of pressure to put on a rookie.

QUOTE(Kalapse @ May 18, 2006 -> 12:13 PM) What was the point of that? He made a valid observation, you can't just take away outings when talking about a players consistency. Well how many of our starters besides Contreras would you say has been "consistent" this season? Garcia perhaps, but Buerhle, Garland and Vazquez have all had their bad outings so far this season, and those other 2 seem to get off scot free, Buerhle because he's proven, and Vazquez because everyone thinks he'll turn it around naturally.
-
QUOTE(Felix @ May 18, 2006 -> 12:09 PM) Doesn't saying "besides the Twin game" sort of destroy any solid consistancy? Well then I could bring up the argument of Mark Buerhle's consistency over his last few outings all over again. Jon's ERA for this month would probably be down to around the 4.00 mark after tonight's outing, which is a lot better than the 7.11 he had in April. So yeah it's progress.

QUOTE(SSH2005 @ May 18, 2006 -> 12:00 PM) It's nice to know that he lowered his ERA to 6.18. Could have been less if Ozzie would have let him finish off the game. But hey Cotts got some work in, and Jenks keeps lookin betta, so I ain't complainin.

QUOTE(Kalapse @ May 18, 2006 -> 12:06 PM) Start 1: 9 KC Start 2: 7 DET Start 3: 1 KC Start 4: 3 SEA Start 5: 5 LAA Start 6: 1 KC Start 7: 7 MIN Start 8: 2 TB so, no. Well I was close, but you get the point anyway. But at least lately, besides the Twins game, his consistency has been much better than earlier on in the season. Let's just hope he can build on tonight's game.
-
QUOTE(SSH2005 @ May 18, 2006 -> 12:02 PM) That would probably be a good idea. I wonder if the Sox have thought about it. They should, if the Sox are going to hang onto Crede. That's why I want to keep Fields. The way he's hitting, even if his plate discipline still needs work, having a young slugger like him come up and produce, offers a lot to you in terms of payroll flexibility etc. And people have said on here he could probably handle 3rd quite well. He's got a fairly good arm, he'd just have to learn to play the position in terms of reads etc. And with Pods contract up at the end of the season, it creates an interesting scenario.

QUOTE(WHarris1 @ May 18, 2006 -> 12:00 PM) He threw a great start against the DRays. His ERA is still over 6, let's not get out of control yet. It's progress though. In 4 out of his last 6 outings IIRC, he's only given up 2 runs or less. It's just a couple of bad ones which has his ERA inflated so much. So it's not like he's been pitching terribly all season long.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ May 18, 2006 -> 11:55 AM) Man, I can't believe how much Jon Garland sucks! 2 runs in 7 innings? How ridiculous is that! Seriously, nice work Jonny boy. Good job JD, Bobby, Neal, and a few others here and there as well. Yeah he did such a terrible job of giving up homers to Norton and Gomes, that he only gave up 2 hits combined for Gomes, Huff and Crawford, their 3 best hitters. But you know, he still sucks and everything........
-
Jon Garland. Back to where he was, before the Twinkies start. The offense comes thru late again. Bobby being Bobby.
-
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ May 18, 2006 -> 11:54 AM) Bobby's last 6 outs? All strikeouts. That's what we like to see. Look like he's back to being Bobby after thos bad couple of outings he had.
-
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ May 18, 2006 -> 11:45 AM) There you have it. There's no reason on Earth why they didn't trade Aubrey Huff last season, for example. Well because Chuck LaMar was an idiot for starters. At least they're on the right path now with Hunsicker and Friedman.
-
QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ May 18, 2006 -> 11:43 AM) If we did that then we couldn't rip on the jackasses who whine and cry about corpseball after a couple of scoreless innings now could we???? Good point.
-
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ May 18, 2006 -> 11:38 AM) f***ING CORPSEBALL! Jon Garland sucks! All baseball games are decided in the first 3 innings! Oh I'm sorry, I've been in another rom for like an hour, did anything change? We should just start the game threads from the 4th inning onwards.
-
QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ May 18, 2006 -> 11:25 AM) The corpseball was just more lame b****ing from Sox fans. The Jerry Manuel years = corpseball, and fans were unhappy. No one was satisfied with the offense last season either, wanting the old one back. We're really supposed to still be in the bottom of the first of opening day with 0 outs, or fans will be complaining. Some people just aren't satisfied unless we're winning 24/7. How would you like to root for a team like the Pittsburgh Pirates then?
-
Well so much for the Corpseball theory.
-
If you thought Cotts's control was bad early last season, I guess this Lugo guy takes th cake after what we've seen of him the past 2 games.
-
QUOTE(daa84 @ May 18, 2006 -> 11:12 AM) 0 BB... Yep that's very important, when he ain't walking guys, it means his control is usually on, and he pitches a lot better.
-
QUOTE(Tony82087 @ May 18, 2006 -> 11:09 AM) BTW, Garland is the man, 9 in a row. So are we all happy with his outing now?
-
QUOTE(Kalapse @ May 18, 2006 -> 10:07 AM) Wow, I really am nostradamus. Freaky. Any more predictions?
-
QUOTE(Greg The Bull Luzinski @ May 18, 2006 -> 09:56 AM) Oh, but this is Manuel-esque baseball of late. And you can go into slumps which include playing Corpseball. Like scoring 7 runs yesterday, oh yeah that's corpseball alright.
-
QUOTE(Tony82087 @ May 18, 2006 -> 09:46 AM) Mack is heating up... Well it is May after all.
-
Who else thinks Jon's not going to give up a run for the next few innings just to spite you guys.
