  1. That would explain his bad start the other day. Will be interesting to see what happens if he is injured for a fair period of time. They've got Ledezma down in AAA IIRC, and Roman Colon who's started a couple of games before. Could hurt their bullpen a little as well if they do decide to go to Colon to fill in.
  2. QUOTE(The Ginger Kid @ May 26, 2006 -> 06:30 PM) I'd also bet the Tigers will be active players around the trade deadline, with some tantalizing young talent to bargain with. IIRC their main trading chips from the farm will be Cameron Maybin (toolsy H.S OF) and Kyle Sleeth a RHSP. There's no way they'll be trading Zumaya or Verlander. But Dombromski should play his cards right and not put all of his eggs into 1 basket and go for the whole thing this season. With that young talent they've got, they could be around like Cleveland for the next few seasons.

    Joe Crede

Saw this blurb in Ken Rosenthal's notes today about the Padres; My question to you, is IF Joe Crede was ever traded (not that I would want to when he's under our control for another 2 seasons), what compensation must we get back in return for such a deal to take place? It would have to be a pretty damn good deal e.g Scott Linebrink + a very good prospect AT LEAST IMHO.
  4. QUOTE(Capn12 @ May 26, 2006 -> 04:14 PM) That statement says alot IMO. Yeah, you can dissect any teams schedule like this, but it holds true. They are only 18-13 outside of dominating those 2 s***ty teams. Just hold on tight, fellow Sox fans. Things will sort themselves out. So that's about 33% of their games so far they've played against 2 fairly bad teams so far. They've only played 2 games against the AL East, which has 3 teams over .500 in Boston, New York and Toronto. If they have a good record against the AL East in the future, then yeah, they're for real.
  5. Will be interesting to see how the Jays do without Russ Adams at SS. John McDonald will be the new SS for them now, and if you think Brian Anderson or Juan Uribe are bad hitters right now.........
  6. Bout time, you lazy bum. Congrats on finally finishing College. Enjoy your break before you start your Accounting Career.
  7. He wouldn't look out of place at B-Ham right now, and I guess if he keeps pitching the way he has so far, he may end up there at the end of the season, especially if someone like Lumsden moves up to Charlotte. He has 23BB's in 48IP though, so that's something that he could improve on in the future. But being a groundball pitcher is only going to improve his chances of making the Sox's rotation in the future, although there's a lot of guys fighting it a spot for a couple of future spots right now.
  8. Sierra finally had a damn good outing tonight. 2IP, 1H and 6K's. ERA is at 5.40 now from 8.1IP for the Barons. Maybe he's finally turned the corner.
  9. Rob's best Matrix impression right there. Very lucky that didn't end up costing us last night. Shows how important good outfield defense (AKA Brian Anderson) is in the late innings of games.
  10. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ May 26, 2006 -> 11:45 AM) The Pride Crew girls stood behind me and snb for a few innings on friday and they are very good looking. If your hair is still long, no wonder they moved after a few innings.
  11. Happy Birthday to Eleni and Jim!!! Hope you 2 enjoy the day.
  12. If Rooney AND Owen could both get fit, then yeah England could actually win it. But my tip is Argentina. Quiet build up, everyone thinks Brazil is the favorite, but the Argentinians have a lot of quality in their side. Aussies beat Greece 1-0 last night, so a good warm up though, certainly better than the Yanks (although their FIFA ranking will probably be top 4 now).
  13. QUOTE(dasox24 @ May 25, 2006 -> 03:57 PM) If this is true (I have no idea b/c I don't know much about Rondo), then it would seem like he'd be a great fit in the triangle offense for the Lakers. They could use a PG who can do all that stuff you mentioned, while also not having to score much. Phil Jackson likes his PG's to be quite big though, so I don't know if Rondo would fit there since he's only 6'2. I think they're goin to end up trading for Carlos Boozer sometime as well.
  14. QUOTE(SoxAce @ May 25, 2006 -> 02:55 PM) Yes from the bad posts in the past, and the bad prediction on prospects (Nachreiner) right Andrew.. Somewhere in America if I'm Matt Nachreiner I'm purchasing a return ticket to Australia to kick my ass just on that prediction.

Prayers and thoughts with ya dude.
  16. QUOTE(VAfan @ May 25, 2006 -> 12:52 PM) It was always unrealistic to give Brian Anderson more than 80-100 games as a rookie when he obviously had no clue at the plate during his call up last September. All the Sox are doing now is settling into a more realistic breaking in period for Anderson. Mack isn't the CF of the future, or even that much of the present. Anderson will always be the late inning defensive replacement, will certainly start against all lefties (and since we haven't done very well against lefties, teams are going to use them against us if they can), and will start against the right handers that Ozzie thinks won't embarrass him. I agree with those who feel defense is important. But Mackowiak has just won us two out of three against Oakland with his bat, so lighten up. Of course that sample size you're talking about when BA had no clue is only 34 AB's, and not Anderson's minor league track record. He was always going to get the oppurtunity to start in CF, and other rookies have come in like Grady Sizemore and produced, so it's not impossible to do so. But BA needs time, just like Aaron Rowand did when he 1st came up, and I still think he'll be a productive major league hitter. People just need to be patient. Mack is a streaky hitter so as soon as he gets cold again, Anderson should get the majority of the starts again.
  17. Yep there wouldn't be a Soxtalk without you guys. And we've grown a lot over the past few years, from the addition of the front page, to the new boards we've brought up for the Bears, Bulls and Hawks. So well done, on making this place enjoyable and a great place for discussion.
  18. QUOTE(dasox24 @ May 25, 2006 -> 12:37 PM) Well, Allen is getting older and Lewis, unless I'm thinking of a different player, is unhappy and wants out. That's why I thought the Sonics might take Brewer. As for Orlando, I don't know too much about the team, truthfully. You'd know plenty more considering they're "your" team. I knew they had Nelson, but not the other two, which would change their focus to maybe a SG or C, I guess. And Boston would take Williams b/c they need a true PG, and as you said yourself, West is more of a combo guard, who would be a very solid 3rd guard for the Celtics, unless the rid themselves of Pierce, which would allow West to be the starting 2-guard. They could go for a big man as well. They really have a few needs to fill. Personally I think the Sonics are pretty loaded at the SG and SF, they've got Damien Wilkins as well. Chris Wilcox came in and had a big impact, but he could leave as a FA. A guy like Cedric Simmons could work for them. I'm pretty sure it'll be Brewer or Redick for us. I still have a pipedream that Roy will somehow fall to us, but that's extremely unlikely. On Rondo, I've heard his jumpshot ain't very good and he could go anywhere from 15 to the 2nd round. The Celts are in an interesting position. They've got Pierce and Wally, so they don't really need a swingman. But if they draft Williams, what would happen with West, in terms of one would have to go to the bench. Maybe they should trade the pick for some veteran help, otherwise they may lose Pierce if they don't get better soon.
  19. On your mock dasox24; Why would the Magic take Rondo when they already have 3 PG's in Nelson, Dooling and Arroyo? Boston with Williams when they already have Delonte West (even though he's more of a combo guard) Seattle with Brewer when they have Lewis and Allen at the swingman positions? When it's all said and done, I think we're going to take Redick. We need a 3 point bomber, and Twardiz the Assistant GM can't stop gushing over him.
  20. QUOTE(Friend of Nordhagen @ May 24, 2006 -> 04:43 AM) Still wouldn't be entirely surprised to see Erstad playing centerfield for the White Sox before this year is done. He's always been a Kenny Williams favorite. I think he's in his walk year, and if we get to the deadline with Anderson still not hitting, a prospect or two might get that one done (and who knows, maybe one of those Angels bullpen guys, too). Plus he can play first, so he takes Gload's spot pretty easily, and Anderson stays up as a defensive guy at all the outfield positions. I don't want a guy who makes $8,750,000 and has a .629 OPS patrolling center field for us, and I think most people here feel the same way.
  21. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ May 24, 2006 -> 04:41 PM) After we acquired Vazquez, and Garland had turned down a deal, I said that I would take Patterson off the Cubs hands if they tossed in a couple arms, with Sean Marshall and Ricky Nolasco being the arms in question. They're both in the majors right now, but for the White Sox, they'd be making the best farm team in baseball even better. There was a suggestion or 2 on here about the White Sox trading for Corey, but most people here (including myself) wanted to see what BA could do. Hindsight is a wonderful thing. The way Patterson's hitting now (and he'll have to keep it up), he would be perfect to have down the lower part of our order. It was a good deal for Baltimore at the time, and it's good to see for them they're gettin dividends from it.
  22. The thing is with Willis, he's really a very unique pitcher as we know. He really has to have his delivery and makeup spot-on to have success on the mound. It's not like his stuff has really disappeared this season. But the challenge for him is to be more consistent with that delivery etc. He's still young and got time on his side. I still think he'll be a very damn good pitcher when it's all said and done but that's JMHO.
  23. QUOTE(sox-r-us @ May 24, 2006 -> 03:53 PM) We better start having Paulie practice 3B or something Not that Joe Crede and his high .280ish average would care.
  24. Right now the Raps have holes at C and PG. They've got Joey Graham to play SF in the future, and he showed a bit this season. If Colangelo wants to play an uptempo style of B-Ball like he did in Phoenix, I'm guessing he'll go with Bargnani. Although I think he'll go with him anyway, because he's not the "safe" pick like Aldridge, and he's got more potential IMHO. Either way the Raps should draft a big. Then the Bulls should draft who the Raps don't take. Bargnani will take time, and Bulls fans won't like that, but if you can get him in the gym straight away, and have him bulk up to 265 pounds like Dwight Howard did, then he's got the body to play C/PF but he's still quick enough to play a SF, and that's going to cause major matchup problems. Here is nbadraft's mock; 1 (Raps) - Aldridge 2 (Bulls) - Bargnani 3 (Cats) - Morrison 4 (Blazers) - Thomas 5 (Hawks) - Foye 6 (Wolves) - Gay 7 (Celtics) - Roy 8 (Rockets) - Williams 9 (Warriors) - Carney 10 (Sonics) - Simmons 11 (Magic) - Brewer 16 (Bulls) - Redick http://www.nbadraft.net/
  25. The thing is there's always a risk of when you draft an European, he may not come over. By all reports before the draft, Fran Vazquez was going to come over, and so did Otis Smith and the other co - GM (Dave something). But then Vazquez decided to sign a 4 year deal to stay in Spain. So teams are probably going to be more wary about drafting overseas players now after that fiasco, and that could cause a guy like Bargnani to slip, if there's any question about his buyout situation etc. But be afraid Pat Williams is here (and this on Vazquez) ;
