QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Oct 30, 2005 -> 12:51 PM) That were all let go. Except for Chavez.

QUOTE(sox-r-us @ Oct 30, 2005 -> 11:58 AM) They just said on ESPN (during the 30 at 30 break during a game) that Manny has told the Red Sox that he wants to be traded and that he will not report to spring training if he is not traded SO, there you go folks. It is now official that Manny is serious. Not sure if he will change his mind AGAIN but for now that is the word He'll change his mind in 2 weeks.

QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Oct 30, 2005 -> 11:25 AM) ugh Quiet You. Congrats to a well deserving poster, who's been round for a long, long time.

Congratulations, and best of luck to you two in the future Queen and Brian.

For the contract he's going to get, there's just no way he's gonna be wearing our uniform especially considering Scott Bora$$ is his agent. I hope this isn't a sign of things for PHT in the off-season though. I hope we're not going to have a thread for each player "What about Ramon Hernandez!!!!"

Ok I joined. Can we possibly move the draft back a day, since I hav an exam on at that time?

Todd Walker had his $2.5M option picked up by the Cubs and this on Guardado;

Wow, and to think they only won the division there in 2004. http://www.latimes.com/sports/baseball/mlb...&track=morenews

QUOTE(Irishsox1 @ Oct 29, 2005 -> 06:01 PM) Paulie is worth a lot of money, but in the end it is pitching and defense that kept the Sox in those close games. Yes but if you don't have a run producer in the middle of the lineup, those close games can easily go the other way.

QUOTE(qwerty @ Oct 29, 2005 -> 05:42 PM) I am willing to bet both delgado is not traded this off-season. The marlins are not in as big of a jam as people are making it out to be. Thome on the other hand will be traded at some point during this off-season. It is nearly impossible to see howard in the outfield and abreu in center field and they will not platoon howard and him Yeah, Pat Burrell can't play RF either, and Abreu isn't that good in CF, so they'd be real terrible defensively in the OF even if Howard was starting everyday in LF. One of Thome or Howard will have to traded. Whoever the new GM is, will have a fun time figuring out that one.

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Oct 29, 2005 -> 04:21 PM) Well I just kind of threw that out there. I mean they desperately need a centerfielder and they desperately need a left handed reliever. I have no clue what they would want for sheff but it seems like he's been on the block for a little while now so I just kind of threw that out there. What do you think? Not enough? I think they're really after Neal Cotts instead of Damaso Marte in a deal like that. Personally I think Torii Hunter for Robinson Cano is gonna happen instead. Of course there's Sheffield, his ego and how he'd fit into the clubhouse etc.

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Oct 29, 2005 -> 04:19 PM) And.......ugh, am I going to have to list the clutch hits that Timo had this season, Timo was the same clutch hitter this year as last, some people like him for that and most people here hate him. Game 3. Houston.

QUOTE(Dam8610 @ Oct 29, 2005 -> 03:19 PM) Is there any chance that the Sox get Wagner or Guadardo? I think our bullpen is pretty settled right now. If Marte leaves, you need a good LHP to replace him though. Plus teams like the Mets are going to offer Wagner a LOT of money.

QUOTE(knightni @ Oct 29, 2005 -> 04:13 PM) Nolan Ryan lost it all of a sudden. They all do. I don't think that's the main issue with Contreras. In 2006 I'd expect him to perform like he did in the 2nd half of 2005. The issue is whether we should move him while his value is at an all time high, because he's only got 1 more year left on his deal, plus he may be hard to re-sign financially.

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Oct 29, 2005 -> 03:54 PM) Dump Scot Boras then immediately sign a 3 year deal at a very reasonable price? Never. No Bora$$ is probably asking for 7 years $119M right now. "Well Joe did what Carlos Beltran did in the playoffs last season!!!!"

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Oct 29, 2005 -> 04:05 PM) If Paul leaves we're going to have to trade Aaron imo cause he's replaceable and can bring us good value in return and that's something you've been saying. But I do not want to trade any of our pitchers away. The pitching can definitely be better, full year of bmac in the 5 hole, full year of bobby closing, hopefully a healthy dustin hermanson, no more damaso, the duke in the pen for a full year, etc. IMO the pitching definitely has the potential to be even better. If paul's gone aaron's the trade bait imo. If Coop sticks around, and everything falls into plan regarding the pitching, yeah it can definitely be better. But there's still a couple of if's there, like will we see the Mark Buehrle from the 1st half or 2nd half of 2005, or can Jon do what he did last season. Getting a good lefty to replace Marte is very important in my mind. Someone like Scott Eyre fits the bill. And as you said, Rowand would definitely be a trade option if Konerko left. Best case scenario, we only have to trade some prospects to fill the holes in our offense. And I think that's what everybody's hoping for in that scenario.

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Oct 29, 2005 -> 03:58 PM) There's no doubt in my mind that Jose has a better overall season in 06. I think Garland is the one who regresses a bit but will still be a damn solid starter. You don't mess with this starting rotation, it will be better overall in 06 then it was in 05 imo. That's the thing, can we right now, say our pitching staff next year is definitely going to put up as good numbers as they did this season? What if Don Cooper leaves? Then if Paul Konerko leaves, and you don't replace him with someone equally as good, how is this team going to be as good as they were in 2005?
-
QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Oct 29, 2005 -> 03:57 PM) DBAHO, why do we NEED to have two good run producers in the outfield, last time I checked we're world champions without having two good run producers roaming the outfield. From an excellent pitching staff. But if Konerko leaves, your offense goes way down, and you may need to trade away from a strength to fill that hole, but probably not.

QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Oct 29, 2005 -> 03:54 PM) Sure didn't hurt having the 05 Pods and the 05 ARow this year did it. And you better eat some mad crow for dissing Pods before the playoffs started with your yadda yadda he's a LF'er with no power bs. 2 HR's in 12 postseason games, 0 in 162 regular season games. Dont tell me how many you hit, tell me when you hit them. God damn I am pumped!!!!!!! Haha, don't try telling me he's a power hitting OF now because he hit 2HR's in the playoffs. I was shocked as anyone he did that, because c'mon it's Scott Podsednik. But yeah he had a great post-season, doing what he needed to do. As for having the 05 Pods and the 05 Row, it sure didn't hurt having the Buerhle-Garcia-Garland-Contreras-El Duque/B-Mac rotation either did it.

QUOTE(sox-r-us @ Oct 29, 2005 -> 03:50 PM) If we go with Anderson at RF, then we MUST get Frank back AND extend Garland + Count. If we are lettign Paulie walk and saving ~14M a year, there is no excuse to not consolidate our pitching for more than just next year and simply focus on hitting from our prospects + some trade deadline help if needed. Also, I disagree about Frank not doing well the year after his injury. Yes, his avg was down but he was on pace for 50 HRs this year if he had played all through to the series. So I have faith in Frank. The guy takes his off season very seriously. We're not going to use that $14M for the sake of using $14M if Konerko leaves. Most of that will go into the raises for Contreras, A.J, Garland and Crede anyway. If you look out there into the F.A market, there's no one, besides Brian Giles who really stands out at you offensively, like a Paul Konerko. As for Thomas, in 2002 when he came back from his injury, he went .252/.362/472. Now he'll be 4 years older since then remember, and yeah he was on pace for 50HR's, but he also only hit .219.

QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Oct 29, 2005 -> 03:49 PM) It wouldn't be horrible if we didn't also have a light-hitting left fielder. If we still had Carlos Lee in left field, Rowand's OPS wouldn't matter. But then we wouldn't have a leadoff man either. I do agree that the Yankees would take Rowand in a second though. EXACTLY. But because people loves Pods so much, you need to have 2 good run producers in the other OF spots. You can't have both Pods and Rowand if Rowand's offense stays on a 2005 level. If he can hit like he did in 2004, he'll be here for a long, long time.

QUOTE(knightni @ Oct 29, 2005 -> 03:26 PM) It just hurts inside a little to know that Scott Boras is counting with his cash register after every playoff hit by Crede. Let's just hope Joe sees the light and does what Uribe did last off-season.

QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Oct 29, 2005 -> 03:44 PM) If you ever became the White Sox GM, I would shoot myself in the foot. What would be the point of getting rid of Aaron? And Jon? I never said "I wanted" to trade Jon. I said the Sox could look into that possibility if Konerko left, if they needed a trade option. As for Aaron, yes I know everyone loves his defense. But can you sit here and tell me a .736 OPS in a hitters park and a 116/32 K/BB ratio is good? And thank you for the compliment.

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Oct 29, 2005 -> 03:42 PM) Anderson is going to be starting in the big leagues somewhere in 06. He'd actually make perfect sense for the Minnesota Twins especially if either Hunter or Jones (more likely) leaves. But there's no way that happens.

QUOTE(sox-r-us @ Oct 29, 2005 -> 03:21 PM) DBAHO Sorry dude, but you are absolutely crazy if you think we will trade Garland if we lose Paulie. If we lose Paulie, I rather see us put Dye at 1B and try and go after a decent RF like Burnitz or Jacque Jones who will not break the bank and give us another 20 + HR guy on the team. We add Frank at DH hopefully and Frank + Jacque/Burnitz give us the same production as Carl + Paulie gave us this past year Also, again, if Paulie re-signs forget Anderson becoming a regular OF next year. The OF is set, and Anderson can play platoon resting all the OFs every now and then and getting 70+ starts + some pinch hit opportunities in inter-league games at National league parks + late in games where matchups dictate it. There is NO need for the Sox not to start the same team next year and it very well could be the case if Paulie re-signs. (Frank replacing Carl of course) Burnitz, haha that's a good one. Like a fine wine, he's only going to get with age like Vinny Castilla right? He hit 24 HR's in a ballpark that's excellent for LHH power hitters. He's only going to get worse, not better. And don't forget Jacque Jones is absolutely HORRIBLE against lefties, which means you need a good platoon OF. Frank and Jones won't put up 65 HR's like Carl and Paulie did this season. I know everyone wants Thomas back, because everyone loves him, but Cheat's posted the stats, when he comes back from a major injury, first season back, he's not that good. Anderson's a better defender, and unlike Borchard, he's actually hit for a good average in the minor league levels. He should be playing everyday, not sitting on the bench and coming in for a pinch hit once a game. And knight, don't forget the Sox hold an 07 option on Rowand's contract. They could easily decide not to pick that up and give Anderson CF, or they could trade Rowand to the Yanks before then.
