Monday Nov 7th: Colts @ Patriots
DBAHO replied to greasywheels121's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
QUOTE(White Sox Josh @ Nov 2, 2005 -> 12:33 PM) Tom Brady is a money player. He is the guy i want out on the field with 4 and 10 with 1 second left in the Super Bowl. Peyton hasn't exactly helped matters with his play in the big games especially last year. Put Tom Brady with the Colts and Peyton Manning with the Pats. Does Tom Brady still win 3 superbowl rings with his "clutchiness"? -
QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Nov 2, 2005 -> 12:28 PM) Central is the best division in basketball. Could get 5 teams in. Yeah Miami and New Jersey are probably locks. Chicago could very well be fighting teams like Philly, Milwaulkee etc. for the 7/8 spots.

QUOTE(White Sox Josh @ Nov 2, 2005 -> 12:25 PM) nothing to do with Michigan. He is the best. He has 3 super bowl rings and he has less talent around him. Don't tell me you would take Deon Branch, David Givens, and David Patten over Marvin Harrison, Stokley, and Wayne. Brady makes average to good players great. If he had went to OSU i would still say he is the best QB in Football. Maybe that's because of something called DEFENSE!!!! -
So with the way the Bucks are looking, could the Bulls actually finish last in the Central?
-
Draft has started.

Did anyone actually THINK Rowand was going to win a gold glove this season?

QUOTE(hammerhead johnson @ Nov 2, 2005 -> 12:41 AM) Me too. That sucks for the Cowboys that they have to play both the AFC west and NFC West. Those two divisions contain 7 of the Top 10 offensive teams in the league. And then you have to play the Giants twice. Offensive powerhouses: @San Diego @Oakland N.Y. Giants @Seattle Denver @N.Y. Giants Kansas City St. Louis Plus the team that would round out the Top 10 IMO: Arizona The only elite offensive teams that they avoid are Indianapolis and Cincinnatti. Yeah we've shown how good our defense has been in the last month. We held the Giants to 10 points, Seattle to 13, Arizona to 14 yesterday, and our defense has kept us in every game so far this season, we could easily be 8-0. Moving to the 3-4, getting Ferguson, drafting Spears, Ware and Canty, plus the play of Glover and Ellis up front, has really improved things against the run, and our pass rush is so much better than last season. And getting a bonafide big stud CB in Anthony Henry to match up on the Plaxico Burress's and the Terrell Owens's in the NFC East was a very good move too.
-
I still think Orlando can sneak in for a 7th/8th spot in the East. Losing Hill early is going to kill us though. I've liked what I've seen pre-season though. Our defense is MUCH better than last season, Cato should perform well in a contract year, and Dwight Howard could go 20/12 this season. And we've got good depth at every starting position with Nelson, Dooling, Turkloglu, Garrity and Battie. If only stupid Fran Vazquez came along for the ride.

Towers and Epstein swapping?

Apparently, Ichiro doesn't have the best relationship with Mike Hargrove the manager. Probably a good reason as to why you're seeing rumors like that being floated around.

QUOTE(sox-r-us @ Nov 1, 2005 -> 04:23 PM) Let me clarify....not this year, but before this year almost everyone on this board at one point or another did. The key word is almost. There were definitely a couple of us who saw that Garland would definitely reach his potential, and people were too quick to give up on him. Needless to say, we were right.

QUOTE(qwerty @ Nov 1, 2005 -> 04:56 PM) I know he serves a purpose but i just do not like loogy's... Well, if you have a real good one, lefty loogy's can actually be a very nice weapon to have. I think in essence, what we're trying to say, we'll need another lefty for the pen anyway, when Marte is traded. And since Damaso was used mainly against lefties this season, why not bring in a guy who dominates against them? There's just not many lefties out there like a Neal Cotts who can do such a good job for ya. Unfortunately, Eyre the best LHRP out there, is probably going to get a nice 2 or 3 year deal.
-
Myers is an interesting situation. I tend to agree more with Rowand and SSH than qwerty on this one. The way Ozzie uses his pen, Myers will be used for 1 guy. It doesn't matter if he's the last guy in the pen in an extra inning game, because how many times where we in that type of situation in 2005? We'll most likely have 12 in the pen I'd say. Of course we could just go after Scott Eyre instead.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Nov 1, 2005 -> 03:29 PM) The Yankees will sign Damon. I feel pretty darn confident in that one. Yeah which is pretty stupid for the money he's going to get, especially if they give him a 5 year deal.
-
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Nov 1, 2005 -> 03:28 PM) That puts them in the $115 million range. So in essence it's up to Moreno, but I think with a player like Konerko they'd go for it.

QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Nov 1, 2005 -> 03:25 PM) The Yankees are finally dumping old fart Bernie Williams. They aren't going to want to add 40 year old Steve Finley who had a garbage year and whom you have to really question if he was on steroids in previous years. The Yankees would rather have a young guy like Rowand or Juan Pierre to patrol center field. The Yankees are old enough as it is. I doubt they want to get even older. Torri Hunter's their #1 trade option, but he's going nowhere unless the Yanks decide to give up Robinson Cano. It would be smart to go after Rowand, but will the Yanks do so, and what would the cost be? Just saying that with Finley's previous success and his LH bat, if they could get him for practically nothing, they may decide to go that way. But it wouldn't be the smartest idea. Pierre's an interesting option, but when you look at the Yankees, they don't have a lot of good trade chips.

ESPN: "It sounds like Paul Konerko plans to stay"

QUOTE(AnthraxFan93 @ Nov 1, 2005 -> 03:19 PM) Nope, after the ALCS.. I was sold on him staying here. How much do you offer, and what's your contingency plan? -
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Nov 1, 2005 -> 03:21 PM) I easily think Moreno could go to the $110M payroll range if they could sign the right players. Byrd will probably get around 4 to 5M. Molina about 6M, unless they decide to go somewhere else. So I still think they could definitely offer Konerko $75M/5.
-
QUOTE(White Sox Josh @ Nov 1, 2005 -> 03:05 PM) some of the money will be deferred. I mean Delgado got $4 Million last year and will now get somewhere around $18 Million. $18M. Ummm no;

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Nov 1, 2005 -> 03:01 PM) I think it'd be worth your time to hit up This LAT Piece on how the Angels salary situation sits in 2005. In order to make a serious run at Konerko, they'd probably have to push $110 million in 06, if not more, given that they have 2 FA holes on their starting rotation right now and a FA hole at their starting catcher spot. That article needs registration. But they can always try and trade Finley to the Yanks to save salary, and Salmon's contract comes off the books. That's $17M in possible savings right there. I don't think Washburn's going to be back, although I think Byrd may stay leaving a rotation of Colon, Lackey, Escobar, Byrd and Santana. They'll probably re-sign Molina, but there's other options out there like Kojima and Hernandez.

QUOTE(White Sox Josh @ Nov 1, 2005 -> 02:52 PM) great program he is running their. their = there BTW. -
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Nov 1, 2005 -> 02:54 PM) I would not say that Anaheim would definately offer him that much. I don't think we have a clue what the Angels will offer. I'm pretty sure they will, if you've read pretty much every Konerko article, snippet in the off-season etc., the Sox may have to go to $65M over 5 years to keep him, because that's what these teams like the Angels are going to be offering him.
-
QUOTE(White Sox Josh @ Nov 1, 2005 -> 02:44 PM) I hope they can backload Konerko's contract. Like have him earn $6 Million for the first year and he ends up earning $14.5 Million in the last year of the contract. That would total up to $49 Million and you can put bonuses in there to. If you were Paul Konerko, why would you take $6M in the 1st year of a contract after the season and playoffs you've had, when Anaheim will definitely offer you $13M over 5 years at least?

QUOTE(Buehrle>Wood @ Nov 1, 2005 -> 02:26 PM) Jees, someones a bit uptight. I really don't want to explain this one more time. The Choke avatars that were put up by the CHAT CREW were a light-hearted joke due to all the daily negative threads here(Not to say I didn't have my fair share of those posts). Honestly, do you actually take my Uberly 1337 Photoshop skillZ seriously? Then why do you have the avatar still up? Last time I checked the season was over, and everyone else in the chat crew didn't have their choke avatars anymore. Those choke pictures with all of those negative posts that were going on, didn't help anything much at all.
