Keep it up guys, let's get Scotty in there.

Anderson isn't going to be a guy who steals bases so that shouldn't be a worry. Chris Young is looking more and more like Mike Cameron every-day, I agree with the sentiments that we shouldn't trade him. Rogo and Gload at first base next season, doubt it will happen though.

I will never have Carl's Jr. again.

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jul 5, 2005 -> 05:34 PM) Bmac is a bad example because he was struggling in aaa. While the park is obviously a homerun haven, Freddy did exactly what Schmidt would have to do and he's doing just fine. But the thing is Freddy had perfectly good numbers in Seattle before he was traded to Chicago, Schmidt doesn't. And Freddy has a 4.53 ERA at home and a 2.44 ERA away BTW. El Duque is another, 6.49 ERA at home (ouch), and a 3.72 ERA away. Schmidt also has a G/F ratio of 0.99, which is not good at all. To put that into context, Garcia has a G/F ratio of 1.37.

Interesting rumor;

QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Jul 5, 2005 -> 05:22 PM) And BMac and Duque make much less than him too. That has to be taken into consideration. See I don't get all of this Schmidt is an "ACE" talk. Sure he WAS an ace over the past few seasons, but he has really sucked this season, plus he'll be moving from SBC park, where his splits are better, to US Cellular Field, and look what that has done to pitchers like Brandon McCarthy.

QUOTE(YahtzeeSox @ Jul 5, 2005 -> 11:11 AM) http://www.bbc.co.uk/music/thelive8event/p...5#gallery-intro My new wallpaper. Still can't believe they did it. Downloading it right now cause I missed the show. Yahtzee we were listening to it on the radio in the car yesterday on one of the San Diego radio stations for a recap of Live 8. Pink Floyd sounded great, and since everyone else in my travelling group is about 30 years older than me , they all loved hearing them, especially my Dad, he's a big fan. You'll love it.

QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jul 5, 2005 -> 01:41 PM) Schmidt > Contreras, El Duque, BMac DO IT! This season; Schmidt - BAA - .275, AWAY - 5.88 ERA, 26 K's, 19 BB's, .311 BAA Contreras - BAA - .225, HOME (used because US Cell is a hitters park unlike SBC) - 4.50 ERA, 38 K's, 23 BB's, .243 BAA.

The thing is on Schmidt is this, and it's what the Sox have to decide. Is he the pitcher we've seen over the first 2 months of the season, or the pitcher we saw in the last month? His .BAA and splits away from SBC are very, very bad which makes me very leery of making a deal for him. Contreras can be a succesful pitcher, and the 1st 2 months showed that. Once again it's the usual things, falling in love with his forkball, walking guys etc., but he should at least be the 5th guy in our rotation. And Munoz and Tracey will only be small cogs in a Schmidt deal. You gotta think one of Fields, McCarthy, Anderson or Sweeney will have to be included also. And I think the point made on Schmidt turning it around in 2002 was more of him pitching in a real pitchers park in San Fran, than pitching for a winning team.

QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Jul 5, 2005 -> 02:37 PM) Conformation: in the postgame Ozzie: diz kid Jenks is gonna come up. Ok so that's settled. What role do you think we're gonna see him in, Viz has the long man role sewn up.

QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 5, 2005 -> 02:12 PM) This game should have been in the hands of Cotts, Cliff, and Hermanson for the last two innings. Why is it that when Ozzie has a bad managing game, it just seems to snowball that entire game? Probably because he doesn't want to use up pretty much all of the pen.

QUOTE(jphat007 @ Jul 5, 2005 -> 02:08 PM) I'm not saying what I would do. Just trying to look at what he's thinking. They might be kind of jittery because we've had a lot of guys throw extremely extremely well in the minors the past couple of years only to come up and absolutely suck at the big league level. Yeah I know, my thinking with that though is this, Arnie Munoz posted real good stats in September last year compared to Baj but is sucking it up in Charlotte. Who would you call up first?
-
QUOTE(JDsDirtySox @ Jul 5, 2005 -> 02:05 PM) Wondering if Jenks is being included in a possible deal. What if the Barons announced Jenks was heading to the Majors... and we are just assuming it is with the Sox. I think it's way more likely Baj gets included in a deal before Jenks.
-
QUOTE(jphat007 @ Jul 5, 2005 -> 02:05 PM) Who knows. Maybe they are scared of the fact that he gave up 21 base runners in 8 innings last year in a non pressure situation But seriously are you going to take a sample size of 8 innings, or have a look at the way he's thrown at B-Ham and Charlotte over the last season and a half?
-
QUOTE(qwerty @ Jul 5, 2005 -> 02:01 PM) Jenks up is a very not good idea. It's pretty hard to imagine how a guy with better stats at a higher level doesn't get called up in favor of a guy who had worse stats and throws in a pitchers park. Just my $0.02.
-
QUOTE(Mr. Showtime @ Jul 5, 2005 -> 02:00 PM) My guess would be Ozzie doesn't like him. Either way, my guess is he's gonna get dealt at the deadline like Gary Majewski was last season.
-
Let's just hope he doesn't get killed in the pen so it hurts his confidence big time. Gotta feel sorry for Baj though.
-
QUOTE(qwerty @ Jul 5, 2005 -> 01:10 PM) Can we ever have ourselves a dontrelle willis type pitcher? Willis only had four starts in double a and he is doing alright it think. How do you think the Cubs feel instead?
-
QUOTE(SHAFTR @ Jul 5, 2005 -> 01:07 PM) Since May 15, Jermaine Dye is .326/.394/.639 (before today) Well at least I was right when I said JD would have better power numbers than Maggilo this season.
-
QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Jul 5, 2005 -> 12:59 PM) Why not count Cotts? He spent a full season at Birmingham, which was over a third of his whole minor league career. Whatever, it's not that important. Compare that to a team like the Cubs -- who have just one position player starter who they developed (Patterson), one platoon/backup (DuBois), the "Big Three" (Wood/Prior/Zambrano), and then a bunch of reliever types, none who really seem outstanding, but a bunch of average guys (Mitre/Ohman/Wuertz et al). Obviously, Wood/Prior/Zambrano were good picks, but two of the three were taken in the top five (Wood and Prior), and the other was a ammy FA signing, so there's 29 other teams shaking their heads. We haven't had the chance to draft a Prior or a Wood... We haven't had a top 10 pick in the draft since 1989 IIRC.
-
QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Jul 5, 2005 -> 12:57 PM) Add Carlos Lee Kip Well Gary Majewski All developed exclusively in the Sox system... The Sox rank in the upper 25% in developing talent. Frankie Francisco as well, even though we acquired him from the Red Sox IIRC.
