QUOTE(YASNY @ Jan 6, 2005 -> 02:29 AM) I think Lowe is in for a rude awakening. Millwood also, btw. That could very well be the case. The O's could have been one of the teams to overpay for either possibly, but they won't if they acquire Vazquez from the D-Backs.

Another aspect to consider with Iguchi is how will he handle hitting the two - seam fastball, as they don't pitch it in Japan. You saw how Hideki Matsui really struggled against it in his 1st season with the Yanks.

I heard something funny happened to her but didn't know exactly, sounded hilarious though.

QUOTE(YASNY @ Jan 6, 2005 -> 02:16 AM) That's the first I've heard about it too. I really don't know how Nen would fit into our bullpen. You'd have to think if he made the pen, one of Marte or Politte would most likely be traded.

QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Jan 6, 2005 -> 01:51 AM) That's a statement about their perception of Willie at least as much as of Iguchi. There aren't many warm bodies Willie would rank above if Rotoworld were making the lineup. I still don't understand all the excitement over this guy, he still seems to be very much an unknown quantity (especially his fielding). Everything that I've read about Iguchi says that he's pretty much a slick - fielding infielder. I think I read on a recent ESPN article though about Japanese players that he could struggle fielding on grass instead of artificial turf, but I could be wrong on that. Now I've found these snippets on the net about Iguchi; 1 - Iguchi's possible stats if he moved in 2004 (late 2003 piece): 2 - Forum Thoughts; Also Iguchi's 2002 stats shoudln't really be taken into consideration as he was suffering from a shoulder injury for much of the year.

Can't see us beating the Rockies with even if its a minor - league deal, the Rockies can offer Nen the chance to be the closer, I doubt we can do that. Of course who knows what's going to happen with him, but this is the first I've heard of the Sox being interested in him.

QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Jan 6, 2005 -> 01:35 AM) Lowe has really kinda flown under the radar this off-season. Is he still supossed to end up with the Tigers??? Lowe still thinks he can get 4 years @ 40 million. The Tiggies ain't biting.

QUOTE(upnorthsox @ Jan 6, 2005 -> 01:16 AM) But you have no idea whether the Sox offer was "fair", if you don't like the Clement comp then you can move on to another, Omar Vizquel. The Sox may have offered more money per year to Vizquel, but they weren't willing to give him a 3 year deal which is what he wanted. I'd like to see the comparisons 3 years from now if we do end up signing Iguchi instead on a 3 year deal.
-
QUOTE(upnorthsox @ Jan 6, 2005 -> 12:40 AM) But then there's the history of this org low balling one of their "Targets" and then never coming back with a sufficient counteroffer. Matt Clement comes to mind as a recent example. Wouldn't you say other teams did that in the Clement signing phase though? The Red Sox only jumped in at the last minute with a big offer after Pedro left for New York, and the Angels were really the only other team to offer more than $24 million over 3 years. Frankly, not signing Clement has probably worked out better for us, especially if we wind up with Iguchi and / or Pierzynski.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jan 6, 2005 -> 12:26 AM) Hopefully that puts pressure on the Latrell Spreewells of the world who can't fee their children on $14 million per year. Great for Schumacher The funny thing is he rejected a 3 year deal in the off-season, now the T-Wolves won't offer him another deal, and he probably won't get more than the mid level exception in the off-season.

I'll also have to upload a picture of my dog and cat sometime.

QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Jan 6, 2005 -> 12:17 AM) Good point on Fassel, Jason. He always struck me as a smart football guy, and he seems like the kind of guy who'd be able to fire up our offense a bit. The offense was never the problem with Fassel's Giants, IIRC. And, when he took control of the offense, it flourished under his playcalling. I can't comment on Turner because I don't remember his days as an OC. Right now it seems like Fassel is going to become the next Ravens OC. If the bears don't get Linehan, they could possibly look at Brad Childrees the Eagles OC, as he could leave if he doesn't get a head coaching job and then Marty Morhninweg would take over as the Eagles OC.

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jan 5, 2005 -> 11:38 PM) Bingo, it's negotiating, you don't start off with your best offer. Unless you're George Steinbrenner.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jan 6, 2005 -> 12:11 AM) Isn't the NY Post kinda tabloidish? When I hear Levine talks about it, then I will listen. My thoughts exactly, they've probably reported a lot of rumors this off-season that haven't panned out. My thinking is now though, which teams besides us would be in the Iguchi market? Seattle signed Pokey Reese to be their SS, so they're out. Toronto perhaps, but I'm struggling to come up with a suitable list of teams, that A - want a 2B / SS, B - want to take a chance on Iguchi and C - are willing to give him about $5 million over the next few seasons.

The guy the Bears should really go after is the Vikings OC Scott Linehan, although I've heard New England is pretty hot on him to replace Charlie Weis.

QUOTE(CubKilla @ Jan 5, 2005 -> 05:08 PM) That episode where Jerry heckles the woman at her work is also the episode starring Jon Favreau as Eric the Clown. Funny stuff when George is explaining to the NY firefighters why he knocked down kids and an old lady attempting to escape the kitchen fire at his g/f's son's birthday party. NYFF: How do you live with yourself? George: It isn't easy. Judge Reinhold was the "close talker" episode. Good stuff. George "You've never heard of Bozo the Clown" George to Jerry later "Eric the Clown put it out with his big shoe"

Rumors are coming out of Dallas today that Flozell Adams could be a salary - cap cut in the off-season. Now while I think this is probably unlikely, it's more probabale he'll move to RT so Jacob Rogers can slot into his favored position at LT, the Bears could be one of the teams interested in him, he was a Pro Bowler last season. The cap hit would be pretty big though, but I'm sure the Cowboys would like to move up to #4 to pick Rolle and still be able to keep their 2nd 1st rounder as well if at all possible.

QUOTE(Queen Prawn @ Jan 5, 2005 -> 02:34 PM) Man, I go from a troll to a whale in this thread. There goes whatever self esteem I had. EDIT: Ah, I see I have made it to bride by the end lol! At least you weren't a crocodile hunter.

QUOTE(mreye @ Jan 5, 2005 -> 01:41 AM) Nobody has said the one when Kramer finds the set from the Ed Sullivan show yet. I loved that one. It's the same one that Jerry had the girlfrien with the toy collection. Wasn't that the Merv Griffith set?
-
I think everyone knows stats wise, Pierzynski would be a serious upgrade to what we have now, it's only the chemistry impact in the clubhouse and the signing price which are still the question marks. Still I expect to see a deal done, although it will depend on whether A.J is willing to settle for a 1 year deal instead of a multi-year deal, which could be what the Sox are offering. If he is, the Dodgers would be back in the hunt, as Navarro likely isn't ready at this stage to be the everyday catcher in 2005.

Happy Birthday Heather!!! Hope everything is going well with your teaching too.

podsednik: Leadoff man, #9 hitter or benchwarmer ?
DBAHO replied to CaliSoxFanViaSWside's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE(qwerty @ Jan 3, 2005 -> 06:01 PM) Why does that still not excite me? Even though Miller Park is a hitters park, S-Pod must have gotten himself into a flux hitting there. Even though the temptation is there at the Cell for him to keep trying to hit longballs, I'm sure Ozzie will pull his ass into line if he keeps with that mentality. -

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jan 5, 2005 -> 12:56 AM) Really it is SPod, Vizcaino, Hernandez, and the two million dollars we still have not spent, which could turn into AJP, Iguchi, or someone else still. This trade is still being finished IMO. I know a lot of people didn't like the deal when we made it, although it's quite natural to think that, players like Carlos Lee don't come along every day of the week. But going into the offseason, this team had NUMEROUS holes in its lineup. Someone like RJ wasn't going to put us over the top in my opinion. Now we have a leadoff hitter, one of the best bullpens in the league, 5 legiminate starters, and still some payroll room left for a second baseman, who could steal 30 to 40 bases and have an OBP of over .350 and / or a catcher who hardly strikes out and could hit over .300 at the Cell, and his defense ain't too shabby either. -
Fantastic job guys, this thread is absolutely histerical.
