There was an article in one of the Florida papers saying that if they wanted to avoid arbitration with him, that would be the likely offer that he would accept. They don't want another I-Rod situation again, so I expect them to get a deal done, especially with Stadium Talks progressing.

The difference between Pujols and Ramirez for me, is Pujols came straight into the league and put up great numbers in his 1st season. I've hardly see anyone like that before. And don't worry Pujols will put 5 to 9 straight seasons of .300, 30+HR's, and 100+RBI's, probably better.

I could be inclined to deal Starbury if I got Yao and a good PG in return, not Starbury good, but still a good PG. You might have to do some dealing 1st to make that happen.

I don't think Varitek will be signed within the next 2 weeks, simply because of the fact Boras is his agent. We all saw what happened with I-Rod last off-season, if Varitek doesn't get that type of offer straight away, we could have that type of situation possibly on our hands again. Plus the catcher's FA market is hardly stocked with talent, there's only LoDuca but he's only arbitration eligible, and the Marlins will probably lock him up to a 3 year $21 million deal. Varitek could get anywhere from $30 to $40 million from 4 to 5 years.

I think they give him a bit of a leeway because of the amount of runs scored at the Cell. Plus he's definitely done a better job than Nardi did. If we sign a bonafide top starter next season though, Coop needs to bring out the best in all of them for us to be a playoff team. Whether that will happen or not, I don't know. I'll be very interested to see what Jose Contreras does next season, after Coop has been in his ear for spring training.

I don't think they'll be firing Coop just yet. Personally I think if Stone was hired in some capacity, it'd be in some sort of role like Dave Wilder has overseeing the minor leagues.
