Mayb no Maggs to the Mets after all, from the Newark Stark Ledger, "While the Mets are searching for an offensive player to add punch to their sagging lineup, the Astros have offered them outfielder Richard Hidalgo. According to two baseball officials with knowledge of the situation, the Astros are looking to move Hidalgo and his $12.5 million contract out of Houston, and have called the Mets to see if there is a match."

AN Egyptian bride died when her husband shoved her out of a moving train between the southern towns of Aswan and Qena, police said today. The incident followed a row between Atef Adel Faraghali, 35, and his wife, Sharbat Abdel Fatah, according to police. The couple married 10 days earlier in Aswan, the bride's hometown, and after the wedding, Faraghali apparently proposed they travel to Qena to visit his parents, but she refused. She changed her mind only after being threatened with divorce. However, the couple got into a shouting match on the train and Faraghali shoved his wife out of the window, killing her on the spot, police said.

That's got Steve Finley written all over it. Unfortunately, I think he'll be going to San Diego, which is one of the two teams he wants to play for, IF, they don't end up trading for Beltran.

The Cubs being out of the city on the west coast trip is definitely helping. Really good to see a big crowd out at the ballpark tonight. Still there shouldn't be any excuses, even if it's not a half price night. We're playing a good drawing team in Atlanta that has some good stars, it's a Saturday perfect time for every1 to see a ballgame, and the weather is good. Getting ur ass to the game and supporting the team helps the bottom line immensely, and that will translate back onto the field with a better team.

Kanny won 2-1. No box score or game log anywhere though.

I don't think it's that important to draw walks even if you are a leadoff hitter. Sean Burroughs hardly draws one, and he's like 7th in the league in OBP leading off for the Padres. As long as you can get on base that is.

Sounds a lot like us. Just like old times huh.

A 1.3kg meteorite crashed through an Auckland city home, hitting the couch and ending up under a computer, the Sunday Star Times reported today. The book-sized rock hit Phil and Brenda Archer's suburban Ellerslie home on Saturday morning, leaving a large hole in their roof. "I was in the kitchen doing breakfast and there was this almighty explosion," Brenda said. "It was like a bomb had gone off. I couldn't see anything, there was just dust." She thought something had exploded in the ceiling, but her husband saw a stone under the computer and it was hot to touch. The rock hit a leather couch and bounced back up to the ceiling before rolling under the computer. The Archer's one-year-old grandson Luca was playing nearby but was unhurt. "He must have a guardian angel," Brenda said. Auckland University meteorite expert Joel Schiff said the rock was "a national treasure", but international collectors would offer big money for it. He said the chondrite type meteor - meaning it was chipped off an asteroid - had probably hit the atmosphere the size of a basketball at 15 kilometres per second before slowing to around 100-200 metres a second at impact.

AN annual British race which pits people against horses in a gruelling course across fields and over hills saw the first-ever human winner in its 25-year history today. A 27-year-old information technology consultant - also a leading amateur runner - triumphed in the 35km "man versus horse" competition at Llanwrtyd Wells, in Wales. Huw Lobb came home in 2 hours and 5 minutes, just over 2 minutes ahead of the first horse and rider. The feat won him £25,000 ($66,000), a prize which has been accumulating by £1000 ($2650) a year throughout the history of the race. "I was the fourth Briton to finish the London marathon this year so I have been in training for a long time now. But the race is very different; I have been up and down mountains today," he said. The race adds to a difficult month for the equine world - at the start of June, a one-off inter-species contest saw a greyhound comfortably beat a top racehorse over a 400 metre sprint.
