  1. It's not like an NFL Draft where the top picks are goin to be contribute rite away, it's easily the most unpredictable draft. I hope redandwhite is right and we get one of the Rice pitchers to slip to us.
  2. THE Earth may be fighting back against global warming, say scientists who believe the world is getting wetter as it warms, improving the planet's ability to soak up carbon dioxide. Research from Australian scientists released during the annual science meeting of the Co-operative Research Centre for Greenhouse Accounting, supports the notion that the Earth is self-regulating. The centre's communique suggests that, contrary to popular perceptions, the Earth is getting wetter - not necessarily through greater rainfall but through a reduction in evaporation caused by cloudier days that prompt more efficient photosynthesis. Research centre chief Chris Mitchell said such conditions could favour long-lived woody plants such as trees, which were capable of storing greater amounts of atmospheric carbon than shorter-lived plants such as grass. In Australia that trend could already be seen in the tropical north, where grasslands were being replaced by woodlands, although scientists had still to determine whether that was caused by warmer temperatures or by factors including changes in grazing and fire regimes. Scientists expect that trend will continue. "The CRC's work suggests the global biosphere is more resilient than we first thought," Dr Mitchell said. "It's certainly going to be debated within the science community but ... if we continue to deforest and burn the benefits of this resilience won't last. "What we do know is if we push the system in the wrong direction we could make global climate change worse." The research is further confused by recent evidence that Australia's phosphorous-poor soils could negate the benefits to plants from increased carbon and cloudy conditions. And while climate changes might be good news for some species, the future is not so bright for animals endemic to grassland which are dying out at rates faster than ever before witnessed. Earlier this year a comprehensive study published in Nature found that climate change could drive up to 40 per cent of all land animals and plants into extinction within 50 years. CSIRO atmospheric research scientist Penny Whetton, a member of the International Panel on Climate Change, said there was no inconsistency between the IPCC findings -- which indicated that global rainfall would increase even though it would decline markedly in areas such as southern Australia -- and the CRC research.
  3. A COURT in the emirate of Dubai has jailed a 26-year-old Indian for a year after he was caught breaking into a house wearing only shoes and a backpack, a newspaper reported. Police saw the naked man, identified only as A.T. scaling a wall of a villa in an exclusive area on October 13, Gulf News said. He was found to be carrying several stolen digital cameras, which he used "to shoot pictures of nude women in compromising positions," as well as jewellery, mobile phones and cash, the daily said. The burglar was found guilty of theft and breaking and entering and will be deported after serving his sentence.
  4. A FORGETFUL grandfather who mistakenly entered the same lottery drawing three times has come up a triple winner and will take home nearly $500,000 thanks to what he called the "luckiest bungle" ever. The suburban Sydney man went overseas for his 60th birthday and put in a Multiweek Lotto entry to cover the following three weeks, the New South Wales Lotteries agency said. But unsure his coupon would cover all draws of the multiple lottery, the man had a friend put in another entry. On his return from holiday, the man then entered again, forgetting he was already in the draw. His numbers came up and he won $494,326. "Having the same entry three times was not done intentionally and can only be described as the luckiest bungle we have ever made," the man said in a statement issued through NSW Lotteries. "I am due to retire soon so the money from winning Lotto three times in one night will certainly make a big difference."
  5. Probably Troy and wheneva Pirates of the Caribbean 2 comes out.
  6. Another nice interview there Alex, enjoyed hearin both from Reed and Borchard, Reed's came off very level headed and a guy who's not gonna let the pressure get to him much.
  7. Yeah try this I4E, it's the main Aussie Rules Sites, u should be able to buy stuff from here. AFL Merchandise
  8. Fairly good, got most of my accounting assignment done on Saturday. Mothers Day, beautiful lunch at the Pancake Parlour. Had work Sunday Aftanoon for 3 hours. Then favourite Aussie Rules Footy team won by 56 points. And Tex, we got a new lawn mower as well, but no - one knows how to use it since my Dad is overseas.
  9. Shows u how desperate the Mets are for starters.

  11. Found this on Griffey Jr., Time will tell if Ken Griffey Jr. is truly reviving. Griffey took three called strikes in a recent pinch-hitting appearance against Brewers RHP Brooks Kieschnick with runners on first and third and one out. "He doesn't look like he enjoys himself," one G.M. says. "That fastball inside you would have been scared to death to throw him before, now you can get it in there on him." . . .
  12. More news on the draft, The June draft might be the weakest ever, according to a veteran scout. Two potential top-five draft picks, Long Beach State RHP Jered Weaver and Florida State SS Stephen Drew, will be represented by agent Scott Boras, and talk already is circulating that Weaver, the younger brother of Dodgers RHP Jeff Weaver, will demand a bonus between $10 million and $12 million if the Padres make him the No. 1 pick. The Padres also will consider Drew (the younger brother of J.D.) and Rice RHP Jeff Niemann. But Drew wouldn't be a fit unless he moved to the outfield. Padres SS Khalil Greene is a Rookie of the Year candidate and Class AAA 2B Josh Barfield is the organization's top prospect. . . .
  13. I agree sumthin needs to be done with A-Row. I think most ppl expected him to take that next step early on in this season and it just hasn't happened. Giv him sum time for a few weeks down at Charlotte to clear his head and work on pitches that are low and away. Call up Reed and hav him rotate with Harris in CF, with Uribe, Valentin and Crede as ur infielders.
  14. Pirates will hold onto Oliver Perez until he hits arbitration. They'll lose Benson bf the trade deadline and Kip Wells sumtime next season. Beltran is goin to the Yanks.
  15. Carlos Tosca figured out how to use a bullpen.
  16. We just can't afford Griffey at his salary unless we trade a big salary guy like Carlos Lee or Paul Konerko back. I'd rather see Reed up here bf we make a move for sum1 like Griffey.
  17. Seattle hasn't had a losin season since 1995 I think, their fans won't tolerate a losing and rebuilding season. Bill Bavasi will get desperate and trade for Griffey I feel.
  18. I still thinks Seattle gets desperate and makes a move for Griffey Jr. to spark their lineup, the Reds could get Garcia in that deal.
  19. Wow, May has been a terrible month for Konerko so far in his career.
  20. I see Anderson couldn't keep his hittin streak goin. Grilli must be under the pump at Charlotte, personally I think it should ne him and not Rauch who's moved into the pen. Diaz or Munoz, it'll be one of those for 2 for sure.
  21. Settin it up with a good fastball is the most effective pitchin combo in the game today.
  22. Reed would take one of the spots, and we would probably be able to sign an outfielder in free agency for about $3 mill like Reggie Sanders or Raul Mondesi, or we could make a big splash and go afta Beltran if he isn't traded bf hittin free agency.
  23. I just read an article about the possibilty of Aaron Sele being moved. Now he'll be nothin betta than a #5 starter for us, but he's in the final year of a 3 year $24 million deal. If we could get a prospect as well if we trade Konerko mayb, Sele would help giv us sum serious payroll flexibility of about $30 million dollars, with Maggs, Koch and Valentin's contract coming off the books.
