  1. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 8, 2017 -> 08:19 PM) I smell what you are stepping in, but I think there is a key distinction here: Monogamy and the institution of marriage are not entirely natural; many couples recognize this and work on relationships that are more understanding of this notion. Adultery, however, is a betrayal of trust and indeed can cause the scars and pain mentioned by Shipps. I may not agree with monogamy, and yet that is entirely different than committing adultery. Maybe, but violence is significantly more damaging. The mental effects of being physically harmed and fearing physical harm from your spouse is one of the worst traumas we can face. Adultery, again, is NOT on the same level of deplorability as domestic violence. This is the real world. We are adults.
  2. QUOTE (ptatc @ Jun 8, 2017 -> 03:49 PM) That is a sad commentary on society. When i was working in the MLB, NBA and NFL, the MLB was always the worst. It's not a crime. It's not particularly unnatural. I don't do it because many humans are predisposed to have single partners, but adultery is NOT a crime. QUOTE (shipps @ Jun 8, 2017 -> 04:24 PM) Adultery is just as much as abuse to another human being as punching them in the face. If not worse. You put that person at health risk and a lifetime worth of emotional scarring for most. That is, without a doubt, the most ridiculous thing I have read in this forum in some time. And I read greg's stuff.
  3. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jun 8, 2017 -> 06:49 AM) This really news? Figured everyone knew he was a cheater when he had two kids with two different woman less than a year apart. Oh, I guess the domestic violence is new though. Cubs fans will surely come to his support like they did with previous heros Aroldis Chapman & Starlin Castro. The domestic violence is deplorable. I don't give a crap about adultery. Julie DiCaro's response is best described as measured. She still talks about how uncomfortable the Chapman situation was. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Jun 8, 2017 -> 06:55 AM) Can confirm. My boss at my last company I worked for lives (maybe he moved out since?) in the same building as him and like 6 other Cubs players (it's a block from the stadium so it makes sense for some of the younger guys). And I feel like adultery/cheating seems pretty obvious when players (any sports) are on the road anywhere from 7-10 months of the year. Isn't that one of the reasons Josh Fields wanted to retire after like his first year with us? Considering he had only played with the Sox at that point, obviously some players were banging women that were not their wives. The thread has a bad title. The news isn't the adultery. No one cares about adultery. It's the domestic abuse claims that are the real problem here.
  4. QUOTE (SoxFan2003 @ Jun 8, 2017 -> 02:25 PM) After the lessons of the ESPN bloodbath, is the new network still estimated to approach the enormous TV contracts of the last decade? Possibly. Cubs are a regional entity. They're still set to make a lot more money than the cupcake deals the Tribune gave itself before selling the Cubs.
  5. Holy old thread batman
  6. QUOTE (JenksIsMyHero @ Jun 7, 2017 -> 10:46 PM) Eek, McDermott?? I would have kept Matta. I'm late to this, but you can't have a coach announce his retirement a year in advance if you're not a blue blood. You lose an entire year of recruiting doing that.
  7. Addison Russell under investigation for domestic abuse. Hope the MLB throws the book at him.
  8. QUOTE (Doc Edwards Shot @ Jun 5, 2017 -> 10:27 AM) I don't mind Jason Benetti and Stoney, but it's doubtful that either will have any quotes to be remembered like Hawk. The years they're in the booth together will be hard to remember after they're done. In fairness, most of this depends on what happens on the field. A well done call gets remembered regardless of who made it in particularly momentous events. I think Benetti will grow into the role just fine.
  9. Jesus, Kris Bryant won't hit free agency until he's 30.
  10. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 4, 2017 -> 10:01 PM) Even in the NFL, so much of a team's success revolves around the QB position. In MLB, you can have Sale/Eaton/2014 Abreu/Q and not even get a whiff of the playoffs. NFL is still probably the best, though. Any year, unless you fall into a certain subcategory of incompetent teams (Browns, Bears), you're in it. And the playoffs are single elimination so anything can really happen.
  11. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 3, 2017 -> 09:05 PM) That is somewhere approaching a billion dollars to sign both of them long term. Their 2020 TV deal will allow them to print money for the foreseeable future.
  12. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 4, 2017 -> 09:03 PM) Is there any defense being played? Is this really in the best interest of the NBA...? Lots of casual/bandwagon fans like "superteams," but only when there's a sense that there's a fair fight to be had with opponents. Not to mention that all the other games/teams are doomed to being afterthoughts and also-rans. It is definitely 100% NOT in the interest of the NBA to have this garbage happen.
  13. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Jun 4, 2017 -> 05:27 PM) His Cooper comment yesterday was awful, but I've long said he's one of my favorite posters here for years so sometimes you look past those. Which one? Flathom of Favum?
  14. QUOTE (flavum @ Jun 4, 2017 -> 05:18 PM) This again? We're both fans of the rebuild. I'm less likely to armchair manage and point out player's shortcomings- mostly because I can't watch this s*** too much. LOL. I was joking. Sorry dude. Should have added the sarcasm font.
  15. QUOTE (JoshPR @ Jun 4, 2017 -> 05:12 PM) Exactly The problem is "fathom" looks way the hell too much like "flavum" which is confusing as f*** and I think I may have misappropriated opinions to one or the other.
  16. QUOTE (JoshPR @ Jun 4, 2017 -> 05:05 PM) Nah far ftom it. There worst here. They only post when something goes wrong. Fathom has been consistent. A lot worse debbie downers here Fathom doesn't have any delusions of competition this year. The worst are the people who think we're like two players away.
  17. QUOTE (Lillian @ Jun 4, 2017 -> 04:56 PM) Is someone suggesting that Sanchez is the better player, either now, or in the future? The question is; if they were both good enough to play, where should they fit defensively? Sanchez is an outstanding defensive second baseman. Not only is Moncada not a very good defender, at that position, but several of us have made the obvious point that his tools are much better suited to centerfield. Having a great arm and speed are kind of wasted at second. I'm suggesting whatever is best for Moncada. Like Yolmer fine, but Moncada needs to be the most comfortable and effective long term.
  18. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 4, 2017 -> 04:50 PM) Use him same way Cubs did. Have him help develop the core guys and then upgrade when you're ready to compete. Bingo. Rick is in a long term audition. He's failed on the strategy front, but they don't need him for that right now.
  19. Good thing this team isn't trying to win anything. In game strategy isn't really Rick's thing. I hate all the bunting nonsense, too. Now we all understand why the Cubs went away from him when they did.
  20. QUOTE (flavum @ Jun 4, 2017 -> 04:44 PM) 9 innings, 2 or fewer? He needs a great start! That would be nice, but I wouldn't go as far as he "needs" anything.
  21. QUOTE (flavum @ Jun 4, 2017 -> 04:43 PM) Quintana needs 8 innings, 2 or fewer, Tuesday night. Or...?
  22. QUOTE (maxjusttyped @ Jun 4, 2017 -> 04:40 PM) Agreed. I want Q, Frazier, Kahnle, Swarzak, etc to all do well so their trade value increases, but ultimately it's for the best if the Sox are picking as high as possible in the draft. A 1-0 loss with Q pitching a gem tomorrow night would be perfect. Right and as the big club gets better, it's on the team to continue to draft well. But right now, the draft is where we need to excel, because prospects are becoming more and more valuable.
  23. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 4, 2017 -> 04:36 PM) I'm all for losing when it's guys like Pelfrey and Covey. Seeing Q and Robertson get shelled is less beneficial for the rebuild FIFY. You want Q to be good to move him, but the majority of a rebuild is still run through the draft.
  24. QUOTE (mataipaepae @ Jun 4, 2017 -> 04:34 PM) Isn't this what we want? Seems some are getting so upset we loser, like this was suppose to be a good year. White Sox can't be too bad, Knights can't be too good. That's this season in a nutshell.
  25. QUOTE (flavum @ Jun 4, 2017 -> 04:29 PM) If the Sox don't have the 2nd worst record in baseball two weeks from today, I'll be very surprised. Hopefully, but I think you're being a little ambitious Just saw your edit
