  1. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 27, 2015 -> 12:40 PM) Wouldn't you rather discuss it with people who follow their team and not another? Do you use Cubs themed sites? Why should we? I like a lot of the people here. Why should I have to go somewhere else to discuss other teams? There's a general baseball board and the most popular topic would be the Cubs. Might as well have a Cubs catch-all thread. Plus, I hope someday the White Sox will have similar success to these Cubs.
  2. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Aug 27, 2015 -> 08:15 AM) I have friends that love them too. Doesn't mean I care about them. I suppose. Personally, I'm glad there is a site where we can talk about the Cubs and not be essentially hazed. A certain other site kicked me off for like the Cubs. Admittedly, part of it is being far away from Chicago now, so a lot of the cultural clash of the two fanbases seems to be in the distant past for me. There are a ton of Cub fans here and they all just want to watch and talk baseball. It's reasonably refreshing relative to the scumbags on social media who flame Sox fans that like watching the young and exciting Cubs play.
  3. QUOTE (Wedge @ Aug 27, 2015 -> 07:54 AM) I took a look at the 2015-2016 MLB free agent list: http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2014/09/2016...ree-agents.html What's depressing to me is that I'm not sure the Sox could buy their way out of their present situation, even if they had infinite money. I'm not seeing how the Sox can cobble together an average lineup without trading off at least one of the young guns (Quintana, Sale, Rodon). Your best bet at this point is to try to jumpstart the club with a 1998 Astros/Mariners type trade (where the Mariners got Carlos Guillen and Freddy Garcia for Randy Johnson). Agreed on this. We tried to buy fixes last season and none of them hit. A smarter organization would start moving pieces for prospects. Unfortunately, we don't have that luxury and the position player drafting is mediocre.
  4. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Aug 26, 2015 -> 08:46 PM) I know this has probably been addressed over the 109 pages, but why do we even have a Cubs catch-all thread on SoxTalk? Some of us want to watch and talk about actual baseball in September.
  5. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Aug 25, 2015 -> 10:19 PM) LMAO, that's simply ridiculous. Chris Sale says hi. And Abreu > Bryant/Schwarber at the moment, too. 1) I meant position players 2) Bryant is a better base runner and position player than Abreu. Rizzo is better all-around. He's having an insane season.
  6. QUOTE (dpd9189 @ Aug 25, 2015 -> 09:59 PM) Schwarber would look good in a Sox jersey. That kid is a beast. The crazy thing is Schwarber, Bryant, or Rizzo would be the best players on our team. Russell would be the best fielder on our team.
  7. QUOTE (LDF @ Aug 25, 2015 -> 11:55 AM) talking about missing the silver bullet. i wonder if a civil suit will happen, or would kane and legal rep just buys her off. now for the big question, does the hawks still look into dealing him??? Absolutely not. They might discipline him, but he'll be a Blackhawk.
  8. So much Cub hate on this thread. Too bad, because the Cubs will be better than the White Sox for the foreseeable future.
  9. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 14, 2015 -> 12:41 PM) Last month a group of Senators met with the negotiating representatives of the other major powers in the agreement & heard their positions about what would happen if the US voted down this deal. Cue the imperialist Republicans.
  10. QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Aug 16, 2015 -> 08:17 PM) If they are profiting AT ALL, it is illegal. They should know what thier costs are so they can recoup them, if that's all they are doing. But instead they are making money off it, which is illegal. Change the law if you don't like it, but it is illegal. Have we established they are profiting? What evidence do we have other than you don't like them?
  11. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Aug 16, 2015 -> 04:36 PM) Rizzo calls Sale the best in baseball Most of the time, he is right. The issue is, it feels like every year Sale has one or two poor showings. Just enough to eliminate him from Cy Young contention. That being said, that dud King Felix through might help our guy.
  12. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 16, 2015 -> 02:49 PM) He's not a legend? He's legendary. He was a legend 10 years ago. Now he's just overstayed his welcome, honestly.
  13. QUOTE (AJUribe @ Aug 16, 2015 -> 04:07 PM) Would take hawk all day over dorkiest man on the planet in len kasper. Len Kasper talks about baseball and understands the game. Hawk blatantly makes things up, ignores statistics, and puts everyone to sleep with references about nobodies from the 70s.
  14. QUOTE (reiks12 @ Aug 16, 2015 -> 03:35 PM) probably. this is still one of the most dominant pitching performances by a staff ive seen. In this generation of MLB, you would assume it has happened. Strikeouts are way up, after all. I stand corrected.
  15. QUOTE (Chris Sale @ Aug 16, 2015 -> 03:06 PM) 14 strikeouts, and Sale has now struck out every hitter in the Cubs lineup besides 1. You are killing it out there.
  16. QUOTE (Chris Sale @ Aug 16, 2015 -> 02:55 PM) I hate Flowers and think pitch framing is sort of overrated, but I do have to admit that was a fantastic frame on a slightly outside slider. I'll take it as just compensation for the ludicrous "HBP" on Rizzo. 12 K's! I agree with the above posters - keep Sale in for the 7th, pull him if he allows one baserunner I understand your point on pitch framing. Personally, I feel like it shouldn't exist. We have computers that can't tell ball or strike. Tricking the umpire is just silly.
  17. So much Cub youth. Let's see if they get exploited by staff aces going forward.
  18. QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ Aug 16, 2015 -> 02:49 PM) He swings and misses and hits himself and he gets first base. He's having that kind of year.
  19. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Aug 16, 2015 -> 02:42 PM) Dude, there's been, like, 47 no-hitters/perfect games in the last five years. It's not even a big deal anymore. Nailed it. That ship has sailed. It's a pitchers league.
  20. QUOTE (dpd9189 @ Aug 16, 2015 -> 09:28 AM) Playoffs or not, they're a good up and coming team. They're not 19 games over .500 due to luck. Nope it's all luck. The Cubs haven't won anything in the last 100 years and it's clearly because they're not winners. 2005. Blah blah blah. When did our fanbase become so obnoxiously predictable?
  21. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Aug 16, 2015 -> 10:53 AM) http://m.mlb.com/news/article/143447766/da...reveals-hes-gay Denson is a prospect on the Brewers Rookie-ball affiliate. This is fantastic for baseball. Hopefully more are to follow.
  22. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 15, 2015 -> 12:35 AM) Unless there's proof that PP is "profiting greatly" (and that would have to be defined, which would be hard to do to anyone's satisfaction) from the tissue above and beyond the normal costs/fees that are passed on in similar situations, I'm not sure what the great stink is all about. Conservative agenda. It doesn't matter what PP does, the religious right will vilify them. "You must give birth to that child you have no means to raise" "Okay, do I get help so that my kid can be healthy and happy?" Republicans are pro birth. PP is pro happy children with happy lives.
