Yeah, Bazok, in pro baseball teams have small “franchises” in their organization (minor leagues aka farm system) where developing young guys or older, not so good players play. Fortunately the Sox farm system is absolutely loaded. If all goes to plan, the big league team will be awesome in 1-2 years.

They lost a game today. They are going to lose 100+ this year. It was a normal day for the 2018 White Sox. Lopez pitched well and Anderson hit another homer, and that is the bright side of things and hopefully there is more to come.

Really, it doesn't get summed up better than this. They tried the route of signing vets and gluing together a roster. Samardzija, Thome, Robertson, Melky, whoever else. It doesn't work.

The Red Sox drafted Pedroia, Bradley Jr and Betts. They signed Bogaerts. They signed Moncada which enabled them to trade for Chris Sale. By winning they consistently have money to spend, ala David Price, Hanley Ramirez, and JD Martinez. In order to get to the point where they can sign vets, they need to establish a young foundation (Kopech, Moncada, Anderson, Collins?, Jimenez, Zavala, Gonzalez, Burdi, etc). When that time comes and the park starts to fill up, they'll add vets in. End of story.

I'm not backing you. That's the point we're all arguing, that tanking isn't bad in the long run. Try to lose so you can stack your organization with young talent for years and years to come. The Sox had Quintana and Sale for years and won dick.

No one can because that's exactly what it is: blatant, obvious tanking and trying to lose, because signing average to good vets while not building a farm and trading any young prospects for vets at the deadline doesn't work anymore and hasn't for a very long time.

What's your prediction on what the staff looks like in 2 months? Fair enough. I just don't believe the consistent (hopefully) improvement of Moncada, Giolito, Lopez, and Anderson + the consistency of Abreu (and hopefully Garcia when he's back) will be enough to play .500 ball.

Thought you meant next year. My bad. You're right. They will lose 101+, and assuming the standings finish the way they did in 2017, that will be enough to have the first overall pick which is definitely more exciting than finishing 75-87 and finishing 10 GB of 1st.

I know we don't agree much but I'm not trying to argue. I'm also not trying to be fashionable. Quit simply, this team was built to be awful. Unless Moncada tears up the league over the summer, Giolito pitches much better, and Kopech + Eloy come up and also destroy the AL, I don't think they play borderline .500 ball. I could see them going something like 50-78 to end the season, which would mean instead of winning 6-8 games a month, they'd win 12 games a month in the last 4 months. Not great but still an improvement over April & May.

They'll lose 100 games if they offer him the most money? I think you misunderstood what I wrote. He said Machado won't come here because the Sox will lose 100 games, and my response was that the Sox won't lose 100 games if they sign Machado.

You would have rather seen the Sox win today as Lopez pitches terribly rather than today's outcome? Interesting.

They'd have to play almost .500 baseball the rest of the way to win 70. If my math is right, they'll have to finish 61-67. I highly doubt this happens.
