How cool would it be if after the Seattle-KC game each team announced a separate trade with the Sox, with one team sending over a UT player and the other a late inning reliever? Has that even happened before? -

Bottom of the 7th in Seattle hosting the Royals. Why do they even play these games? MLB should institute a strict coin flip policy in the next CBA. Edit: Brendan Ryan is at bat. Maybe he's our guy. -

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 29, 2012 -> 04:08 PM) Figgins isn't very good. Giving up anything of value for those two would be terrible. If you are getting them for nothing, great. I still wonder if the Sox look at Utley. I don't think you really do have to give up anything for him. Not that any team loves to eat almost an entire bad contract, but it might do Seattle some good just to do that and put that bad deal behind them. -

It's hard to imagine the Sox doing enough for King Felix. Figgins with League and a ton of cash from Seattle is another KW move though. Figgins would make a nice bench player for us given that Eduardo has mainly been playing 3B laqte with Youk going to first, and that's something Robin likes to do. Figgins could PR for PK/Dunn and go in on defense. -

QUOTE (Frank_Thomas35 @ Jul 29, 2012 -> 03:23 PM) Good question, reports say he's looking for a huge package. But as we have seen you never know with Loria. It could be tempting. Ozzie would probably not want Gavin for anything though. Very possible, although I doubt Ozzie is anything more than a "yes" man in Florida at this point. Loria has his hand on the plug, and when he pulls it, Ozzie's baseball career officially goes bye-bye. -

If you're Loria, and KW offers you to swap one year of Johnson for one year of Floyd, at $4M+ less, and agrees to give you Reed and good prospects in return, do you take the bait? -

League has a big arm. I hope we get him. -
QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 29, 2012 -> 12:06 AM) Coming into tonight, Escobar was hitting .159 with a .444 OPS against righties. That's not starting SS caliber unless he drastically improves. I do want to thank him for walking off the Brewers on that Sunday afternoon. He's been sitting on the bench. And he's done a great job coming in ready to hit and hitting the ball hard and not just giving ABs away like Lillibridge did forever. In regular playing time he's going to be solid IMO. He certainly seems like a Gardenhire type of player all the way. No matter how much Liriano has struggled, Terry Ryan isn't going to trade that kind of ability to his biggest rival unless he gets something he likes in return. Since it is impossible for anyone with two eyes to like Pedro Hernandez, it's pretty clear Escobar was the key to this trade. And nobody gives two s***s what Keith Law the desk jockey and his little buddies think about Escobar's future, the trade itself should pretty much show you that the Twins scouts like Escobar, and those are the only people who matter. If all Ryan could have gotten was salary absorption and a bench player out of the deal in a hot pitching market then he certainly could have found a taker outside of the AL Central. This whole idea that all KW is doing is trading bags of balls is ridiculous. Most prospects don't work out, but for example, Zach Stewart was the key to the Scott Rolen deal, and then a key in a deal for Edwin Jackson which itself was key for the Colby Rasmus trade to go through, and then after that he's the key to the Youkilis deal. You have a former highly ranked prospect who had been drafted as a 3rd rounder and had been scouted and then traded for as a key piece by 3 other Major League organizations, all for very good players, but then Human Dunce Cap Lawrence Holmes gets on the radio and blabbers nonsense about how terrible he is and everyone laughs. Same with Escobar. No, actually Escobar is a nice little player and this deal is yet another in a long line that shows the value of defensive SS that teams believe can/will hit enough to stick.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 29, 2012 -> 12:04 AM) I'm not saying anyone is wrong for liking/supporting him. I thought 95% of the board (including yours truly) was really down on him after the blown double play in Boston. Robin blew that game all on his own with his grizzly baseball axioms and his completely thoughtless approach to situational baseball. I love Robin, but I swear all he does is make up nicknames. Where's Mark Parent Robin? Oh, that's right, M-Par's getting you your coffee. Nice.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 28, 2012 -> 11:31 PM) Kevin Slowey, Romero or Marcum is next. Dice-K...? LOL. Dempster will be traded to the White Sox if the Dodgers keep low-balling them and Braves don't restart talks. Theo doesn't care about the White Sox-Cubs stuff, only the return. So Dempster for Molina + another fairly advanced pitching prospect. Floyd to be marketed for all he's worth and possibly held onto. Dempster isn't necessary. Besides, Dempster hates water. He's always in the clubhouse yapping about it and stuff, and if it's hot and you try to hand him a bottle of water he'll be like "f*** water!" and he'll throw it back at you. And see that's a problem because something like 25% of the world is made of water, or maybe less but I'm not sure, and there's even water that lives inside of people which acts as a type of lubricant that helps you breathe or something. So I'm pretty sure our players need water and his hatred for it probably sets a bad tone (like a sound) within the clubhouse and could very well have something to do with the smell emanating from his vagina.

Sox eager to move Floyd, other notes
The Ultimate Champion replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
So Mr. Floyd, it seems you're going to be the next hot topic round these here parts... -
Escobar will be a starting SS. The reports on his abilities coming up were garbage. Flame away. Pedro Hernandez... can't figure out what the Twins want him for. I doubt KW would have slammed down the phone in anger if they asked for Leesman or Rodriguez instead. Great move for the Sox. Kenny got a lot of potential upside in Liriano and also someone who is extendable after the season. Kenny loves to acquire those second-level types, i.e. the players who are the next level down below the star players at their positions but have similar raw talents. He especially likes the ones that play in smaller markets. This is vintage KW and it's great to see the insane level of absolute idiocy that ravaged this board last summer is now gone. The KW haters now realize how stupid they were in judging everything in hindsight and crying about pro-active win-now moves. You don't like Kenny, go watch the Royals. And go finger through your prospect books while you watch them suck. I agree with the poster who said KW is giving the big "f*** you" to all his doubters right now, and the biggest won is right there aimed at Ozzie.

Trade Deadline Top Pitching Targets

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jul 28, 2012 -> 08:34 AM) Honestly, I'd rather take my chances with Humber than give up anything for Vargas. His road/home splits are pretty extreme and I don't think making half his starts at the Cell would do him any favors All Vargas would have to do is not be a headcase for about 10-15 more starts, whatever it is that is left out of that spot. If Humber sucks today then it's Battle Axe time anyway. Major league arm or not, at least he's not on Queer St. mentally. -
QUOTE (Melissa1334 @ Jul 27, 2012 -> 05:04 PM) some scouts said he might just need a change of scenery, fathom mentioned how hes not getting slong with the pitching coach. hey maybe they can buy low on him, better than overpaying for greinke. The upgrade of Shields over Humber probably gets us more wins in the regular season than going from Floyd to Greinke. However, I think KW is banking on the postseason and wants to run out Greinke-Q-Sale-Peavy (the order would be dependent upon who is hottest at the time) in the first round, thus the Greinke rumors. I am confident that Kenny will replace Humber, if not by the 31st then through the waiver period. I just think Kenny is thinking bigger right now. IMO we'll at least get Dempster or Vargas before the deadline.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jul 27, 2012 -> 04:20 PM) Why do posters continue to tie posts together and assume? Dude said the only player he'd move "Tank" for was "The King". Nowhere in there did I say "holy s*** trade Tank for James Shields!" I'm not understanding how that makes him delusional though. Of all the players rumored to be on the market or speculated to be on the market, "The King" is the only one that makes any sense.

QUOTE (Frank_Thomas35 @ Jul 27, 2012 -> 03:54 PM) Sorry my fault I thought the fact we would likely have to part with tank for shields was delusional. I may be delusional about that, but I wouldn't personally trade Tank for anyone other than Felix. That's my own opinion delusional or not, I really like tank and think he has a chance to be dominate for a long time. And it would seem to me that the greatest hitter in White Sox franchise history would probably agree with you also, i.e. that he'd only trade Tank for a star who is controllable well beyond this season. Gushing praise from the Big Hurt > the opinions of Steve27u82348453r45twt at TardTalk.com. Even though I like Steve.
-
QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jul 27, 2012 -> 03:46 PM) That is a delusional statement. And you are vastly underrating Tank and overrating Shields. Shields may ultimately end up the better player but Tank has him by the balls in terms of raw talent. And he's a lot cheaper too.

Vargas + League is a nice package regardless of what happens with the pursuit of an ace. 3? years team control of Humber has to be at least somewhat appealing for Z in Seattle, provided a couple nice prospects finished out the package. Humber is a change of scenery guy who could maybe get his confidence back by returning to a low expectation, non-contending situation and doing so in a pitcher's park. Humber + Mitchell/Thompson is a potentially great deal for Seattle given that the players they would be acquiring have higher ceilings than the players they'd be trading and also would be controllable for longer. And if it's me I'd throw in a lil extra to just to keep Mitchell and ditch Joe Borchard Jr.

Favorite Random Hawk exclamation?
The Ultimate Champion replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
"You couldn't pull a credit card outta my behind with a pair of pliers." "A hiney bird is a bird that flies in perfectly concentric circles over and over until it eventually disappears up his own behind forever." And he was right, too. Best Hawk ever is uncontrollable laughing fit Hawk. My favorite Hawk moment is an AB where Gordon fouled a ball off his nuts and Hawk laughed about it for about a good 3-4 minutes. His laugh is like "uh-heeee heeeeep heeeep-uh-heeee-heeeep uh heeeeee!" Poor Stoney didn't know what to do with himself. I like the banter between DJ and Farmio too. DJ's absolutely nuts. I wish they'd talk about baseball more though. The leave a lot out and some of what you hear is beyond stupid, i.e. Farmio recently detailing how he wouldn't associate in any form with members of the opposing team while he was playing them, given how they were the enemy and whatnot. Farmio's a dick. If I ever meet him I'm going to give him a coin and ask that he pass said coin on to the next asshole he comes into contact with, and I'll do it wearing my cap like CC Sabathia. -
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 26, 2012 -> 06:34 PM) So you're okay with KW, no matter what the record and attendance are next year...if he goes for it with Greinke, they don't make the playoffs and Zach ends up with the Braves, Angels, Dodgers, etc.?? Because the last time "All In" failed, it took about 4 months into the following season for fans to start believing in that team again. The worse it gets, the more stuff there is to complain about. It's called having your cake and eating it too.
-
QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Jul 26, 2012 -> 12:51 PM) K Rod, Hart and Grienke for Floyd, Jones, Santiago, and Viciedo Throw in Beckham for Weeks and cash That too much turnover If Greinke walks then there's a great chance you've traded the best player in the deal in Viciedo. Too big of a risk to take since Viciedo is already here and producing.
