INEXCUSABLE for Pods not to tag. I realize we're down 6 runs, but if it's beyond his heads he's on third, if it's gone -- it's gone. -

QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Aug 21, 2006 -> 07:49 PM) AJ -- I think I have a good idea on how to get Monroe out. Throw a fastball, preferable 85-87 MPH, on the inside corner. I have not seen this bastard, Monroe, hit an opposite field shot against us ALL YEAR. OMFG. Look at his hit chart at Comerica. HE HASN'T HIT A f***ING OPPOSITE FIELD SHOT ALL YEAR AT COMERICA. Why this team INSISTS on pitching him inside, and going away to slap hitters like Vance Wilson, Jason Tyner, and Pudge Rodriguez is BEYOND ME. This is absolutely un-f***ing-real. From what I've observed, Monroe crowds the plate. Watch when he's preparing himself at the plate -- his bat covers a sizeable portion of the outside corner. Enough room is left to pull. It's a similar concept to David Ortiz. I realize they aren't comparable on a talent level , but as far as identifying a weakness, one would believe it's outside. How many opposite field HR's have you recalled him hitting? I honestly can't remember one. I'm sure a hitting chart would support me. Both hitters crowd plates and compensate outside corners fairly well. Considering Contreras plunked several batters, he may have been reluctant to pitch Monroe in. -

QUOTE(kwolf68 @ Aug 21, 2006 -> 07:42 PM) I think we'll need a major house cleaning in our starting rotation next year. It's not happening from within. If we're expecting Broadway to replace any of the current starters we're in trouble. And don't expect any trades benefiting us. Williams, to both his advantage and disadvantage, has openly stated he doesn't conduct trades to rip-off opposing managers. With this rotation, it's a definite problem -- we'll need someone to drastically overpay and lend us stud pitching prospects. -

QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Aug 21, 2006 -> 07:38 PM) It makes absolutely no sense. Someone else posted my exact thoughts (I'm too lazy to back track on this thread and credit you, sorry ) concerning McCarthy's odd absence from consistent work. I wonder if he's currently conducting side-sessions. His work lately has been far too sparse. It's either he's injured, in Guillen's dughouse, or currently pitching on the side. I realize it's unlikely, but not entirely out of the question. This isn't something you'd want to mention in the media and risk further clubhouse issues. -

QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 21, 2006 -> 07:35 PM) Remember when we said that the best way to improve our pitching at the deadline was to improve our offense? but...but...but...remember last offseason when some said a team would SURELY overpay for one of our starters near the July trading deadline!!!! That teams overpay for starters midseason!!!! That didn't work out well, either. It may turn out after this season concludes the worst move Williams made wasn't standing pat with our roster, but failing to move McCarthy into the rotation. -

QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 21, 2006 -> 07:28 PM) I still have hope that Garcia to the Mets will happen in the next 10 days. Too late for any such deal, and a subsequent move for McCarthy into the rotation. That opportunity was squandered around the trading deadline. Terrible decision by management. We'll regret it during the offseason when either injury issues are disclosed, or his value sinks even further than now. It honestly annoys me we never seem to be in a good position concerning the value of our players. Beane, for all the criticism I've layed upon him, has mastered this concept. With our rotation at its peak, just off a World Series victory, Garland or Garcia would have been ideal candidates for a trade. Especially when you consider McCarthy's availability. -
I know others will suggest they didn't hold out much hope for victory, but nevertheless, I'll never shrug my shoulders when our ballclub faces Santana. Continue believing every matchup is an automatic defeat and results such as tonights will repeat themself. In all honestly, their offensive approach wasn't too bad. Strikeouts were limited and consistent contact was made. Even Brian Anderson put together quality AB's. It's pathetic, IMO, that Minnesota continues to gain ground even WITHOUT Liriano. If he were healthy and starting Minnesota would have already eclipsed us for the Wild Card.

Another scrub Minnesota player defeats us. Where's our Nick Punto?

QUOTE(Greg The Bull Luzinski @ Aug 19, 2006 -> 06:36 PM) Nuke, Freddy would need a big pressure gas station to succeed. Perhaps if he worker at a very dangerous gas station, say one that gets robbed a lot. Looks like a promising site for work. You know it's a bad area when the liquor store is conjoined with a gas station.
-
How does Minnesota continually produce scrub players within their system with odd names who kill us?
-
I despise driving down a street and coming upon an area where two lanes merge, because there's ALWAYS one jerkoff speeding about 10 mph above everyone else in an attempt to get several car-spaces ahead.

Well, I'm glad management felt it necessary to hold onto Garcia. If it were my decision, he would have been delt before the trading deadline. These character issues coupled with a noticeable decline in numbles (with obviously correlate with decline in stuff) will make his value nearly nonexistent entering this upcoming offseason. Terrible decision, IMO, not to deal him. Did anyone honestly expect him to post respectable 2nd half numbers and improve upon his stats? It just saddens me how we failed to unload any of our starters following last years performances, and now, ALL have had their value diminish. Now, Buehlre or Contreras wouldn't have been candidates to trade, but certaintly Garland and Garcia could have netted our ballclub quite the package.

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Aug 17, 2006 -> 01:23 PM) Flash of all people knows the status of our minor league system, especially pitchers. He forgot to put the /sarcasm I wouldn't give myself that much credit. More like, I know the status of our minor league pitchers AA and above. People know my position. No need to ruin another thread. -

QUOTE(valponick @ Aug 17, 2006 -> 01:09 PM) If we can't negotiate an extension with Buehrle then I say let him walk, $10M is too much to be paying him next year. He'll return because even at 10 million, his salary is a relative bargain considering that amount covers one season. There's not exactly many alternatives available to us outside of outbidding other organizations for pitchers. My ideal situation would have been for Buehlre to return next season, and hope perhaps Lumsden is available in 2008 to replace him. OOPS. Sure, Broadway remains in our system, but I would have expected Lumsden to reasonably duplicate Buehrle's numbers from this season. -
Question -- when did people suddenly adopt the spelling of "tonite," opposed to "tonight?" Did I miss something throughout the years upon years of English courses? I searched Google, and apparently, tonite is the incorrect spelling of the word. As I first suspected. I thought at first it was internet talk; ie, something you'd expect on myspace, but I've been noticing more and more people use it. Just seems to have sprung up out of nowhere.

QUOTE(GoRowand33 @ Aug 16, 2006 -> 09:27 PM) what an embarrassing game I bet if we come back a bit then we'll kick some ass tomorrow Even if such a miraculous event would occur, I've learned this season not to select individual moments which may propel ourselves into a "rhythm." -

QUOTE(maggsmaggs @ Aug 16, 2006 -> 09:10 PM) come on, Cotts is struggling, but don't give him the Damaso comp. Appropriate now? Struggles with inherited runners, struggles against left-handers, struggles in blow-out situations. That's Damaso Marte for you.
