QUOTE(S720 @ Sep 9, 2006 -> 09:18 PM) Okay, gentlemen. Let's get ready for some heart-wrenching, nail-biting, a-lot-of-rolaids ride. We WILL overcome this turbulence and WIN. Ok, Reverend S720. -

QUOTE(S720 @ Sep 9, 2006 -> 09:10 PM) Way to go MacDougal. Should we stay with MacDougal in the 9th? Answer right now please! You know why I don't like this? It about removes him from tomorrows game. No choice but to bring in Thornton. MacDougal may be needed tomorrow to pitch (possibly close). Not having Jenks completely healthy changes everything. Cotts ineffectiveness doesn't help our options. -

QUOTE(S720 @ Sep 9, 2006 -> 09:03 PM) MacDougal the 8th, then Thornton the 9th. Here we go guys. Strap it up and get ready for a turbulent ride! Damn, I hate this! I have a problem with this considering MacDougal has closing experience and has pitched far better than Thornton in the period since his arrival. It's not like chosing between MacDougal and Cotts -- both Mac and Thornton are good pitchers -- but I'd give the advantage to Mike in a high leverage situation such as the 9th. -

QUOTE(Mr. Showtime @ Sep 9, 2006 -> 08:59 PM) Indeed. I wonder if Oz is going to keep the starters out there a little bit longer now. Garland had 106 pitches. I have no problem with Guillen removing him and finding work for Logan, considering Cleveland trailed by 9 runs. -

I sincerely hope Guillen isn't considering bringing Jenks out tonight. Give him rest. It's obvious something is wrong. I noticed MacDougal is warming as well. He should be closing the game, not pitching in the 8th. Have Thornton pitch then. -

QUOTE(Wanne @ Sep 9, 2006 -> 05:28 PM) What did he do in your mind?...for hitting the HR or the bat flip? I read a few Cleveland boards that were pissin and moanin about it. I honestly don't see what he did that was wrong. I'm personally sick of all these crybabies using any excuse they can to hate AJ. The dude can't fart without being blamed for it being in somebody's general direction. You are exactly right though...AJ gets drilled and the umps will warn Ozzie. Hopefully will have no effect on whether Jon pitches inside or not. I hope if this is how it plays out...Ozzie makes the point to let the umps know his pitcher still has the right to pitch inside. Obviously the bat flip. Cmon' now, be objective -- if a hated opposing player hit a game-winning HR, then proceeded to watch it, slowly trot towards first base, then flip his bat 10 feet in the air, don't you think our team would be upset? I realize how important the moment was. It could potentially be the game which we look back on and cite as our turnaround. Any other player and I guarantee reaction would be different. It's like pouring sulfuric acid on an open wound. AJ's reputation precedes him; and when events such as yesterdays occur, players on a losing ballclub can't be too happy. It's as simple as that. When retaliation occurs, no one should be shocked. -

QUOTE(Wanne @ Sep 9, 2006 -> 02:25 PM) I have a feeling today's game could get ugly...and say there's probably a 95% chance that AJ gets drilled in his first at bat. I wonder how Ozzie will deal with that. He deserves to get drilled. I love him for what he did, but won't be pissed when it happens. Who knows how Guillen, or the umpires, will act. The worst situation would be for Pierzynski to be drilled, and immediately umpires warn both benches -- thus removing the inside plate from Garland. Regardless, I wouldn't mind extra baserunners early. Maybe it'll unravel Carmona. -
QUOTE(BobDylan @ Sep 9, 2006 -> 04:00 PM) Then I guess the question is would you trade McCarthy for Crawford? No. I'm tired of this Carl Crawford talk. It's completely unreasonable to expect him for anything other than your yearly, Williams-overpaying-for-talent- extravaganzal. Except in this situation, opposed to Vazquez/Garcia/Thome, we're attempting to acquire a superb, young, cheap, LF. Tampa Bay just isn't accepting crap. We wouldn't be the only suitors for him, either. McCarthy/Fields/Broadway could reasonably meet their demands, but no way in HELL would I approve that. Only because I value starting pitching more than any other component of a team. Even if Broadway/McCarthy respectively reach the levels of #5/#3 starters, their value will exceed that of Crawfords. I'm estimating value here, and I'm sure people will disagree, but I figure McCarthy and Broadway can provide win-shares totaling 22-23. Just pulling up Radke's 05/06 numbers, I believe -- based on minor league numbers of both and McCarthys MLB starts -- Brandon could produce Radke's 05 season; Broadway 06'. Not exact science, but not unreasonable, no? Crawford's value has roughly been 21.5 these last several seasons. Add in whatever Fields gives, we're not going to come out very well -- despite Crawford's continued production. Crawfords total package may be irreplaceable, but his production can be compensated around the field. This is what I feel towards positional players. Starting pitching is the key to assembling a World Series championship. Having two starters within your rotation making under a million allows yourself to overpay for a LF. And, as we've seen, extended deals for OF's traditionally pays off more than those of pitchers.
-
QUOTE(whitesox1976 @ Sep 8, 2006 -> 09:09 AM) The pitcher I would get rid of would be Vazquez, although it will probably be Buehrle. Put Bmac in the starting rotation. Pods is probably as good as gone. Hell no, I wouldn't trade Vazquez. Even during his "five and dive" period, he showed an ability to dominate AL lineups for 5 innings. Garcia's domination of American League lineups consists of 5 inning, 3 ER games. These are rare. Who doesn't expect Garcia to be shelled tomorrow? It's practically guaranteed.
-
QUOTE(Texsox @ Sep 8, 2006 -> 09:05 AM) This team, even if it misses the playoffs, is close. It should not take stick of dynomite to fix. Close won't be enough. Do you realize what we're up against concerning Minnesota and Detroit? Their pitching rotations may actually be BETTER in coming years with upcoming prospects. We can't stand pat. Garcia's ass needs to go. There's one point. Others discussed within the article, ideally SS, LF, need to be addressed. Righthanded bat off the bench who could patrol all OF positions will be sought. These options are not exampling of a huge overhaul by any means, but more than a simple touchup is needed.

QUOTE(Hangar18 @ Sep 8, 2006 -> 08:37 AM) Id much rather trade Javy, but yes, Buehrle and Vazquez cannot be in the same rotation. If its time for Buehrle to move on, the so be it. BUT GET SOMETHING FOR HIM, namely a pitcher. The Cardinals have a garbage minor league system as I understand it, not sure who we get for him .... I'm grown very sour of Buehrle these last several months. If there were better options within our minor league system, or greater assurances of success between the remaining starters, I'd ship him out right now. One glaring problem, and I"ve brought this up before, is the innings he provides our ballclub. It's the most irreplaceable facet of his game. Exchanging him for Anthony Reyes, for example, wouldn't come close to equaling the innings displaced between the two. When you factor in McCarthy (who likely won't exceed 170) and Contreras' questionable health, entering next season with yet another problem isn't a favorable position to find oneself in. There's really only one scenario I would forsee Buehrle traded. If someone offered Williams an unbelievable package. One which made the possible black hole left by Buehrle easy to overlook. We'd have to be talking about the next Liriano, here. But Lord knows these type of trades never happen to us.

QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Sep 7, 2006 -> 03:36 PM) hmmm... what has this pitching staff had? contreras went on the DL for two weeks... that's about it... everything else could be assumed as an effect from last year, or you could say that these pitchers just regressed (we all saw this coming with freddy last year)... eh. nice idea though... Regression is the key. I don't want to hear one person blame injuries if we happen to fall short. If anything is disclosed after the season concludes, I'll blame management for failing to remove whomever had the problem and inserting McCarthy. If the starter was hiding it, again, management (Guillen in particular) is around these people and should realize when something is wrong. No excuses will be accepted from me. 2006 Chicago White Sox either win or lose on their own merit.

QUOTE(maggsmaggs @ Sep 5, 2006 -> 06:41 PM) The future of this franchise will be having at-bats this inning, minus Juanny. And predictably, both failed. Sweeney striking out looking for his first AB certaintly doesn't surprise me. If he actually reached base I would have damn near collapsed. Impossible to expect immediate success from our prospects. For every MIguel Olivo there's 10 others -- pitchers included -- who can't seem to start off hot. Always have to work their way up from the cellar.
-
As with all prospects within our organization, It'd be nice for someone to immediately contribute upon promotion. I'm tired of hearing, "not everyone succeeds immediately," because wouldn't you know it, about every player facing us making their major league debut goes off. Make it memorable Ryan -- 2-4, HR, 3RBI.

QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Sep 4, 2006 -> 09:25 PM) Where you been????? I believe the more appropriate question to ask is, did I just read him critcize this team? OMG!

This is becoming embarrassing. How the f*** can't you look at the scoreboard, realize a win is needed with two rivals already winners earlier in the evening, and lose to a weakened Boston team. WITH SOME POTFACE BULLPEN ARM DOMINATING OUR OFFENSE FOR SEVEN INNINGS?! Pathetic. The choke avatar is becoming very close ro finding itself used agian.
-
I hate how this game has progressed. With a scoreless game, I have this feeling Garland will make one mistake -- and end up losing. How our offense has handled Tavarez is embarrassing.

QUOTE(Mr. Showtime @ Sep 4, 2006 -> 12:29 PM) Post all your wacky thoughts and first guesses here. Tigers beat Seattle 6-2. Twins beat Tampa 2-1. I have one whacky thought -- f***ING WIN. We're often concerned about this team failing to play to the competition, or not showing urgency until they're behind several runs late. Well, all they have to do is look at the scoreboard and realize today is a must-win. Not that it decides the season either way, but any loss which pushes ourselves out of the wild-card lead and further from the division can't be looked upon as favorable. Considering Boston's battered lineup and pitching, there should be no excuse for a letdown with Garland on the mound.
