New category -- shuffling "Guilty pleasure" songs. Or, as I would label it, songs you'd never let friends know you have in your possession. Suppose it all depends on your group; perhaps some would include rap, or country. I'm fairly sure several of my songs would draw laughter if you actually knew me outside Soxtalk. 1. Just Another Day -- John Secada 2. All I Want -- Toad the Wet Sprocket 3. Bus Stop -- The Hollies 4. Take the Long Way Home -- Supertramp 5. Jumper -- Third Eye Blind 6. Found Out About You -- Gin Blossoms 7. I Want To Know What Love Is -- Foreigner 8. All I Need Is A Miracle -- Mike and the Mechanics 9. The Way You Do the Things You Do -- Temptations 10. Dawn (Go Away) -- Four Seasons

Gamethread: 9/12, Sox v. Angels
Flash Tizzle replied to Gregory Pratt's topic in 2006 Season in Review
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Sep 12, 2006 -> 07:20 PM) The strategy is not "Stay the course" and no one ever said "Stay the course". We're adapting to win. I meant it sarcastically, JERK. -
Gamethread: 9/12, Sox v. Angels
Flash Tizzle replied to Gregory Pratt's topic in 2006 Season in Review
Well, when Mackowiak inevitably misplays a flyball to CF -- and Buehrle proceeds to implode -- atleast Guillen can assure himself that "sticking with the people we've been with all year" didn't cause panic. -
QUOTE(Texsox @ Sep 11, 2006 -> 04:54 PM) It's Da Mayer, he gets what he wants. I really miss Chicago. When is his kid going to be ready to be da mayer? I know his son Patrick enlisted in the Army several years ago. Aside from that, don't know too much. Never heard any information pertaining to him persuing a career in politics, although it certaintly wouldn't surprise me.

Clinton & former administration officials question 9-11 miniseries
Flash Tizzle replied to Steff's topic in The Filibuster
From an entertainment purpose, I thought it was quite good. Dramatizations of the original WTC attack, as well as events leading up to the original 9/11 plot, were done fairly well. Remove the political aspects and indecisveness of Washington, it's still interesting watching the events unfold overseas. I've never seen an actual film detailing pre 9/11 planning to such detail. If you want to know who looks bad, it's the FBI and CIA. A good 10 minutes is devoted to an FBI informant -- a middle eastern man -- yelling at FBI officials for failing to heed his warnings of several individuals planning to set off explosives within New York City. FBI even had the men responsible for the 93' attack followed, but the order was given to discontinue due to legality issues. That brings up another point -- several instances within the film, the forthwright impression of US policies hindering counter terrorism was given. IIRC, the quote given to explain why the FBI quit following the 93' WTC suspects was a variation of, "America doesn't allow its citizens to be spied on." The middle eastern informant then replies, "does it allow their citizens to be killed from terrorist bombs?" Another moment, a complaint is issued that information within Youseff's laptop would never have been admissable in court if set in America. Personally, I enjoyed the films devotion to Youseff from the 93' bombing through his travel abroad to the Philippines and Pakistan. Don't hear much about him in the news. I guarantee a sizable portion of Americans were unaware of several subplots within the film, such as Youseff's apartment fire which exposed his airplane plot, or the Millenium bombing suspect caught at the Canadian border. -
QUOTE(cgaudin @ Sep 10, 2006 -> 05:28 PM) I have a fastball that clocks at about 82 MPH. Maybe they'll gimme a shot too................. If you have a changeup, and are lefthanded, you would shut out of this team. About McCarthy; and I don't know about you, but i'd still rather take my chances with him than watch Freddy Garcia pitch another season for this ballclub. With the money saved (factoring in the amount we're paying which ever team trades for him), we'll be able to pay for a reliever. Or another bench player so Mackowiak will never have to be in CF again.

QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 10, 2006 -> 04:43 PM) I think Morneau reflects what the entire team thinks about the Sox though. This thread does bring up a good point, about how maybe we could luck out with Santana not pitching that final wknd if they're already in. You know, in a twisted way, I'd rather face Liriano or Santana. If we lose, which is inevitable, atleast it's against the best. I couldn't look at the Whtie Sox the same way if we were eliminated from post season contention becaue BOOF f***ING BONSER shut us down. And you damn well know he'd do it.
-
It's been said before -- McCarthy rarely has a feel for his changeup out of the bullpen. His curveball doesn't have the noticeable "snap" to it either. Still, I'm not giving up on him because of bullpen struggles. Even if he were to duplicate his current numbers in the rotation, he's pitching poorly for 8 million less than any of our other starters.

QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 10, 2006 -> 03:49 PM) What you are hitting on here is an important point - why do we care? I answered that, but maybe I need to be more direct. We care because we NEED that region. Thus, are position of weakness. We need their natural resources. Oh, I agree. I'd be foolish not to acknowledge the importance of the Middle East to our countries economic livelihood. But couldn't we still import oil without an actual military presence in the Middle East? It'll likely follow us. For what we've done recently in Iraq, there's an entire generation who'll grow up despising our country. Even if peace prevails in the Middle East, and we removes ourselves from occupied countries, there's still the high probability children of Iraq will bottle their anger inside and someday -- perhaps 20 years from now -- launch terrorist attacks against our nation. I believe it's important to break the chain of terrorists arising from American wars. The original gulf war was important in creating Al-Qeada. Who knows what develops from the recent one, which has gone on nearly 10 times longer. It's an important piece, yes, but my purpose in citing the 9/11 terrorists is to suggest addressing poverty won't affect nearly as much as people may believe. IMO, the difference between someone who's a poor Al-Qeada member and an educated, middle class Al-Qeada member is the person with more money/higher education has access to larger terror plots. It's sort of an odd, microcosm of society -- people with money are given more opportunities. They're the ones who can travel, pay for tickets, attend flight school, etc. It's just a situation in which I believe we're better off not meddling. We attempt to educate the children of Islamic countires, we'll be accused of pushing Western ideas on them. Teachers will be kidnapped, threatened, killed, etc. We give them money for rebuilding, corrupt rulers (Saddam) build their palaces and ignore their citizens. We attempt to push leaders who may establish democratic rule, they're immediately discredited for being pawns of our country. Yeah, I don't know what the hell we can do. And to hear to people talk about attacking Iran? Wow, we'd really be on the receiving end of generations upon generation of terrorists.

QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Sep 10, 2006 -> 04:17 PM) Yeah. Yesterday's piss-poor effort from the bullpen really bit us in the ass today. I'm sure MacDougal would have been used in the 8th/9th today if he didn't have to throw about two innings yesterday. :sigh Who do you think we're dealing with here? You honestly want to stretch out MacDougal considering his arm troubles, or his relatively violent delivery? Guillen didn't pitch Logan/Tracey because he hoped to raise their confidence. Extending MacDougal another inning yesterday with a two run lead, with Thornton available, basically left him unavailable this afternoon. He pitched the day before as well. It's that simple.

QUOTE(whitesox1976 @ Sep 10, 2006 -> 04:10 PM) We blew a big chance to get within 2 1/2 games. If I was in KW's position the first pitcher I would get rid of is Vasquez. Our bullpen lately has given me a few grey hairs! Wait, you would get rid of Vazquez because the bullpen has given you grey hairs? Vazquez has pitched well the last month. There are atleast five pitchers I'd kick out of the door before even considering trading Vazquez. He gave this team everything today. 127 damn pitches.
-
Wouldn't you know, using MacDougal for over an inning yesterday (after pitching the day before) left him unavailable. I knew this situation would occur with Sabathia pitching. Runs wouldn't be easy to come by. MacDougal was desperately needed in the 9th.

QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Sep 10, 2006 -> 04:02 PM) Meanwhile, the Chicago White Sox league leading offense puts up a 2 spot. Equation of lefthander with 93mph+ fastball + good offspeed pitch = defeat. Next offseason, Williams needs to find players who destroy lefthanders and platoon them in certain matchups.

QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Sep 10, 2006 -> 04:00 PM) Don't worry, Guillen won't let them give up. He's truly a baseball genius. I mean, 5 relievers in an inning?! That's the kind of insanity that only comes with genius. We're in trouble once Liriano comes back. How many games are left this season? 22-23? Can't have fat piles of s*** such as Sabathia mowing us down. What happens when we're facing Liriano and Santana to conclude the season and need two victories? Oh, and I love how our two minor league pitchers -- Logan and Tracey -- once again showed everyone how great our system is. They looked like their diapers were full on the mound.
-
but...but..but... I THOUGHT THE FUSE WAS LIT? GAMES SUCH AS TODAY WERE LEFT FOR THE OLD WHITE SOX. YOU KNOW, THE TEAM WHICH EXISTED BEFORE FRIDAY BUT SOMEHOW WOULDN'T SHOW UP AFTERWARDS1!!!!!

QUOTE(tony72 @ Sep 10, 2006 -> 03:50 PM) I know..I am tired of hearing how great our farm system is..but whenever someone comes up..they just can't handle pressure situations... I don't believe anyone with a functioning brain would say our farm system is great. It's pathetic, and no one can deny it. Lack of bluechip prospects -- for what seems 10+ years now -- will do that. And guess what? It's not going to get any better anytime soon. Williams needs a few Liriano trades to replenish this system. Even small deals, such as Indians receiving Choo for Brossard, would help. These are EXACTLY the type of deals we never seem to make, but those within our division make with regularity.
-
Who the hell was Guillen saying "f*** you" to?
-
Even Sizemore has to laugh at our pathetic assortment of minor leaguers.
-
This is ABSOLUTELY PATHETIC. Our minor league players are coming up here practically scared s***less, needing a diaper change once they step on the field.
-
QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Sep 10, 2006 -> 03:41 PM) 5 RELIEVERS IN 1 INNING! YAYYYYYYYYYYYYAYAYAYY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And they all suck. What a display of mediocrity. We're witnessing the fruits of our minor league system here. Wouldn't be surprised if Tracey give up a hit and then was immediately removed.
-
LOL, Guillen was out of the dugout before the pitch hit AJ's mit.
-
Now Boone can't throw a strike. Is this kid retarded? I'd kick him in the f***ing head if I were down there.

Clinton & former administration officials question 9-11 miniseries
Flash Tizzle replied to Steff's topic in The Filibuster
Jesus Christ. Who gives a f***? If the American people are that impressionable, as to believe a miniseries which has basically been labeled as fictional for over a week, than the Democrats should do themselves a service and create some sort of rebuttal. Even if they were willing to believe it, are Americans somehow supposed to associate Clinton's indifference with future democratic candidates? Stop whining. -
QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 10, 2006 -> 11:42 AM) Newsflash for the Administration: You cannot defeat terror as if it were a nation-state. Not possible. Your attempt to create a cage match in Iraq will not allow you to conveniently attract and defeat all terrorists in this manner. And most importantly, if you do nothing to address the core causes of the hate which creates these animals, then the "war" will be fought in perpetuity. Of course, here is the wildcard, and the reason why the next administration may end up making all the same mistakes (regardless of party). To actually unwind our current position in Middle East affairs (that being one of weakness - overextended militarily, needing local resources to survive, and horrific PR), and to make some inroads into eliminating the root causes of hate (poverty, corrupt governments, interference by global powers, and the rise of control-hungry religious crusaders in all the major religions of the region), would take a LOT of time and a LOT of money. It will take more than 4 or 8 years. And further, it will take a kind of courage that American politicians seem to have become allergic to - the kind that doesn't involve using violence as a tool. Hold on-- We're somehow supposed to "eliminate root causes of hate" by devoting resources to address problems such as corrupt governments and officials? How exactly does this occur? Sure, sounds idealistic, but explain how we address the issue? I find it's a problem beyond our control. When a sizable portion of the 19 hijackers were educated individuals from well-off families, you realize issues such as poverty and dispair -- which many associate with terrorism -- have no bearing on this issue. Honestly, I'm tired of hearing about the Middle East and their issues. Why should we ultimately care how their citizens regard us? Don't tell me, "because it's the right thing to do," or "these people are oppressed!!111." If that were the case, Darfur wouldn't nearly be the slaughterhouse it has become. Yes, we've certaintly created discontent because of our war efforts. No denying that fact. But if it were up to me, I'd remove our presence from that region of the world. Atone for our mistakes. This would ultimately cure terrorism quicker than grand visions of institutional change. Essentially kills two birds -- distance ourselves from connections with Israel, and remove the rally-cry of terrorist organizations whom criticize American presence in Saudi Arabia, among other countries. Finish what we need to finish with Iraq and their government and then leave.....them....alone.

Embarrassing. How can this file pile of s*** continually dominate us? Offense needs to hike up their panties and scratch across a few runs.
