QUOTE(maggsmaggs @ Aug 16, 2006 -> 08:52 PM) did mack misread that ball? No, it knuckled on him1!!!! As if that never occurs against other centerfielders. I suppose it's just Mackowiaks luck the mother of all flyballs finds him. -

Last year, Podsednik would be standing on second base right now. -

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Aug 16, 2006 -> 08:34 PM) I wonder what is going on with our coaching staff. I bet they will talk up the opposing pitcher and how great he was. 3 hits through 5 complete is horrible. I'm taking a bet the following words will be included: "Nasty" "filthy" "Bernero trow the ball REAL well" /Guillen "Tip your cap" "Kansas City is a major league ballclub....(bulls*** continues)" -

QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Aug 16, 2006 -> 08:12 PM) I'm not trying to defend Jose. He was bad. But the Royals can swing the bats. They've got to be 1 or 2 in runs scored since Andre David became their hitting coach. I realize they're not a pushover offensively. But 7 runs? Considering Contreras hasn't had trouble against the Royals in the past, this performance is unexpected. No excuses, here. Battling the Royals in games you NEED to win -- or in the least, keep fairly close -- pitching games such as tonight doesn't lend hope to "finding a rhythm." -

Is it coincidence the offense looks overmatched against a pitcher with a similar repetoire and delivery as Anthony Reyes? Anyone with a deceptive changeup and ability to locate pitches seemingly controls our lineup. -

Absolutely embarrassing. Someone tell me -- do aces typically surrender 7 runs to the Kansas City Royals? -

Minnesota Twins Post Mortem Playoff Thread

QUOTE(Cerbaho-WG @ Aug 11, 2006 -> 07:48 PM) 94-98 MPH fastball. Making a lot of mistakes up in the zone, changeup is medicore but he keeps throwing it. Good curve and slider, though. My post was more of a subtle insult directed towards our pitching prospects. But since Garza was practically destroyed ( 2.2IP, 8H, 7ER, 2 BB, 2 SO, 2 HR), I can't complain. It honestly shocks me to read his line. He must have been nervous as hell on the mound. -
Minnesota Twins Post Mortem Playoff Thread

QUOTE(Felix @ Aug 11, 2006 -> 07:25 PM) Garza is looking a bit wild in the first, but has good stuff. 2-0 Blue Jays on an Overbay double that went under the worlds best fielding centerfielder's diving glove. I assume by "good stuff", in context with our minor league pitchers, that is 88-90 mph fastball and an 80 mph curveball? Right? -
For anyone with Comcast Digital Cable, watch "Slaughterhouse Five" -- available under the category 'Free Movies.' Although dated (made in 1972), it's a surprisingly well produced movie which chronicles a man whose life is replayed in random order. Scenes involving Dresden's firebombing and Vallerie Perrine are perhaps the best.

QUOTE(SoxHawk1980 @ Aug 10, 2006 -> 05:16 PM) Trading Garcia sounds good, but these factors will lead to us getting little for him: 1. Horrible performance this season. 2. His stuff looks horrible, which makes it look like this season's downturn isn't just a fluke. 3. He's not at an age where you expect him to develop and improve. 4. He's making a hell of a lot of money. Expect the Sox to get minor talent for him, and to give up some millions to the "lucky" team that acquires him. I'm wondering if there's a pseudo-Kenny Williams willing to morgage talent to "win-now?" If a half-season of Greg Maddux is worth a major league shortstop -- debate his offensive abilities, yes, but he's no throw in -- then a full season of Garcia in the national league should be worth atleast two contributing players. I'd be happy with a legitimate bullpen arm and starting pitcher prospect.

If terrorists were transporting liquid explosives with the intent of detonating mid-flight, as all indications seem to be, it's scary to think about future instances involving terrorists smuggling aboard such items. I can't begin to speculate which chemicals are involved, but if these people are truly determined to kill others and are willing to die for their cause, why not injest the material? Think of a situation closely resembling that featured within "Maria Full of Grace." Or wear clothing items which allow pockets where liquid items may be stored? I'm not saying anything new here, really. It's just tough to imagine complete security from persons transporting undectable (aside from trained dogs) liquids. I'm sure London's counterterrorism units have been following this particular cell for a very long time. When they were reasonably certain an attack may be forthcoming, and potential co-conspirators were since identified, then the arrests were made. Doesn't sound like an instance of someone innocently stumbling across an Al-Qeada plan.

Embarrassing no-hitter avoided. After Johnson finishes this start he can continue where he left out -- giving up 4-5 runs a game.

QUOTE(WilliamTell @ Aug 9, 2006 -> 08:57 PM) And even if they don't make the playoffs, they just won the World Series for everyone last year. Sure I'd love another playoff appearance or even another World Series title but come on, they snapped an 88 year drought. Pathetic excuse. One I'm not subscribing to. It's essentially shrugging your shoulders if they lose. "Oh well." I expect consistent starting pitching from a rotation (supposedly) molded from the hand of GOD. If they're failing to achieve expectations -- that is, pitch atleast around career averages -- I'm not going to be very pleased and rest upon last years achievements.

QUOTE(Frankensteiner @ Aug 9, 2006 -> 08:36 PM) Quick question: which one of our starters is actually reliable? No. But people can continue reassuring themselves of our pitchers REGRESSING TO THE MEAN! Ha, this team is really pressing. If we past the 7th without a hit I'm predicting a no-hitter. I'm not giving Johnson any credit on this day. Straight fastball and hanging sliders won't give that. Atleast Anthony Reyes featured superb location and perhaps one mistake.
-
Give me a break. Half of Johnsons sliders are hanging and his fastball is as straight as Garcias. There's a reason he's posting the numbers he is this season.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Aug 9, 2006 -> 01:18 PM) I am confused, are you saying this is an admitted doctored photo, or just speculating that is has been altered? He's speculating, although there really isn't much to debate. Look behind (and slightly above) the man's head. Or at the actual clothing.
-
Yeah, lol, it's rather odd why the photographer (or whomever was responsible) would insert a black man's face. Surprised it isn't the mugshot of bleeding, Lebanese refugee escaping an Israeli airstrike. What makes it strange is someone actually put time into locating an appropriate headshot. They had to find a photograph where the lighting would appear consistent with its surroundings. It does accomplish that, but unfortunately, both the clothing and the extra inches visible behind his head gives it away.

Chat room open. Link available on the top of the page underneat the Garcia banner.

QUOTE(SoxFan562004 @ Aug 8, 2006 -> 08:16 PM) Wow, FG got away with one to Cano this game has the feeling this year has had... Sox are just killing themselves with mistakes and looking terrible, but you look up and they're still in it. (lol, not that is very insightful, but the feeling I have) And if this feeling of yours continues, we'll keep the game close until Guillen refuses to take out Garcia after allowing several baserunners to reach. Garcia will then give up a line shot somewehre. Guillen will exit the dugout and throw his gum to the ground will signaling for a pitching change.

Did Craig Wilson drop about 50 pounds is it just me? I swore in April he appeared noticeably heavier.
