QUOTE(jphat007 @ Jun 22, 2006 -> 08:29 PM) Man he is so nasty. I'm tired of watching some f***ing prospect come up and immediately contribute when ours never do. It's like throwing sand in our faces. "Here, want to see the defnition of immediate success? How about being at the tail end of a no hitter?" It's getting embarrassing. -

QUOTE(chitownsportsfan @ Jun 22, 2006 -> 08:10 PM) Flash: what exactly are you trying to say? We don't scout the latin countries well? I think that's fair. But if you're saying that guys like Liriano and Reyes are a dime a dozen, and we should have a few, you're kidding yourself. Yes on second part, no on second. Our scouting philosophy overall limits pitchers with high potential. Recent first round draft picks have suggested so. Lumsden, a relatively hard thrower, wasn't throwing 93-94 when he was originally drafted as a sandwich pick. Mentioning Reyes is more of a joke; although I'm honestly not a fan of Broadway. I continually mention prospects who succeed and compare those to ours, who RARELY exceed immediately upon promotion. About Liriano, and finding one for our own, I'm honest when I say our process of Latin scouting is atrocious. It hasn't produced even a 4th OF in nearly 8 years. Even those who were traded haven't gone on to be successful. -

Liriano on ESPN and Reyes on CSN. I'm surrounded by young talent. Man, can't wait for Broadway's debut in the majors. He throws 4 innings of perfect baseball I'd be SHOCKED. -

QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Jun 22, 2006 -> 07:51 PM) We are 46-25. BTW we are also the defending world champs. Hey, just curious if there's a pitcher such as him in our system. We do have a pitcher comparable to Reyes right? You know, 95 mph fastball, good control. I sure as hell know the possibility of a Liriano emerging is impossible. Don't scout latin countries can't expect to locate one. -

So........... Where's the Anthony Reyes in our minor league system? -
I'm glad Lumsden pitched well, but only one strikeout?
-
Torii Hunter sure is a classy guy. He just appeared on Baseball Tonight's show discussing how much Clemens has owned him over his career. Nothing else. Forget that Liriano guy on the mound, or his team's resurgence.

QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Jun 22, 2006 -> 04:31 PM) And even if he doesn't, I don't give a f*** if the gay community doesn't like Ozzie. As a matter of fact, I don't give a f*** if our own fanbase doesn't like Ozzie......he may be an insensitive bastard who is wrong with what he says, but I don't care, as long as we're winning games. Call me ignorant, I don't care. I have no problem. Someone else may call you ignorant, though. Honestly, I don't care what Guillen does from this point forward concerning this issue. I just believe he'll do something, whether it's apologize in a newspaper or appear at their parade.
-
QUOTE(CWSOX45 @ Jun 22, 2006 -> 04:29 PM) Mariotti claims that Ozzie needs "Psychological help" :rolly Mariotti is loving every minute of it. Jay Mariotti truly is an attention whore. :headshake Actually, he agreed with Phil Garner (Astros manager) who says Guillen needs psychological help.
-
Mariotti on Arount the Horn says the gay community is "calling for Guillen's head." Somehow I doubt this. Often when people speak in generalities they're wrong. I can't speak for the gay communtiy, but can anyone honestly imagine people absolutely livid and shaking their fists at the thought of Guillen calling Mariotti a ***? People are sensible. Most are looking at Guillen and realizing he's an ignorant boob. I'm confident Guillen will do something with the gay community to help his image.

QUOTE(KevHead0881 @ Jun 22, 2006 -> 04:17 PM) Freddy vs. Pujols? Did it just get cold in here? (shivers) We're not exactly facing Jason Marquis or Mark Mulder either. Reyes has legitimate stuff.
-
Sorry ESPN. Neither the White Sox or ESPN are going to suspend Guillen for his comments. Let the whining commence. We'll just continue winning and aggrivating every critic of Guillen along the way. Not many care. Let's be honest. Guillen's attitude shouldn't surprise anyone by now. Most sensible people recognize his comments were inappropriate, but let's not begin this self-righteous crusade of acting ashamed. An embarrasment to our organization? Yeah, ok. It'll blow over in a week. We'll continue winning, and probably secure another playoff birth. We've had two onfield incidents, we can certaintly rise above this.

QUOTE(Controlled Chaos @ Jun 22, 2006 -> 03:45 PM) Not only not on a podium...he was off the record. Problem was he was within close promixity of the press. Comments on/off record hold more substance with players, anyways. Almost an unwritten rule of journalism. Players need assurances what they say within the clubhouse and on field aren't at risk of being printed. There's no preferential treatment for Guillen. I'm certain countless players have said much worse within earshot of journalists. But a manager? Couldn't expect many to sit on this story.

QUOTE(Allsox @ Jun 22, 2006 -> 02:12 PM) I agree with ya about the train but I refuse to pay that idiot's salary. Daily Herald is what is on my front porch every morning. Too bad your're not in my situation. I've been reading free Sun-Times for over a year. A plastic shield covering a Sun-Times dispenser near a Metra station I commute to is loose, so every morning I simply reach in and take one instead of paying .50. Well over $100 dollars which hasn't gone towards Mariotti's salary. Just doing my small part.

QUOTE(DonkeyKongerko @ Jun 21, 2006 -> 07:46 PM) I added Carmine Derriere and Suck'em up Joe. It's my contribution to the Encyclopedia Humana. Since I'd have to register to post entries, I'll leave several for someone else to add: -"That's a bede pitch: " a well located pitch either called a strike or fouled off. -"Nasty Nats:" Nickname for the Washington Nationals -"Greg Maddux....:" epitome of man-love for Hawk Harrelson. Often mentions his "sphincter becoming tight" watching Greg pitch. -"He's a good looking young player:" sometimes applies to someone's talent, other times to their actual apperance. -"Outside edge of the outside corner:" a pitch which Harrelson believes should have been called a ball.

Anderson's suspension starts tonight
Flash Tizzle replied to henry wiggins's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Far as timing, it couldn't have been more appropriate. Need something to deflect attention (even a little) off of Guillen. -
QUOTE(holly wiggins @ Jun 21, 2006 -> 06:16 PM) Well, I didn't think that Matt Abattacola could get any more stupid, but this incident has proved me wrong. I turned on the radio and WOW, that boy is in a personal fast market! Sanctimonious little wuss. Abattacola is arguing whether or not Guillen's apology was actually an apology. Guillen regretted his remarks, and is willing to apologize to anyone offended -- yet somehow this isn't an apology? Now I'm getting to the point where I hope he says nothing and further enrages Matt. It reminds me of George Costanza in Seinfield not satisfied because technically what the man apologized for wasn't the correct one. Too bad. Should be satisfied with any sign of remorse.

QUOTE(Rex Kickass @ Jun 21, 2006 -> 06:10 PM) You're telling me that Major League Baseball doesn't discipline players and/or managers for bad behavior during press conferences when they are acting as representatives of the team they belong to and Major League Baseball as a whole? To my knowledge, no. I agree with Aboz on the topic of MLB avoiding disciplinary action following DUI's. I don't care what Guillen calls someone, endangering the lives of people behind a 2,000 pount automobile warrants action over a derogatory term. If Guillen is suspended, I'd understand -- there's been history, it's not an isolated incident. Just shouldn't be more than one or two games.
-
QUOTE(Rex Kickass @ Jun 21, 2006 -> 06:05 PM) Jay Mariotti - Attention Whore. Ozzie Guillen - out of line. Should be fined by the team, and suspended by Major League Baseball. I don't think he meant to offend gay people in any way. But at the same time, if he isn't taught a lesson - he will John Rocker himself. If he's suspended it shouldn't be more than two games. With MLB's knack for f***ing up every indicent imaginable, I imagine they'll do whatever they can to punish Guillen here.

I've never heard of this website before. The above line is delicious with pop culture references.

QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Jun 21, 2006 -> 03:28 PM) Liriano vs Clemens on ESPN tomorrow night. You know I'll be watching.
-
QUOTE(fullcollapse @ Jun 21, 2006 -> 04:28 PM) the worst part is i find myself using these more and more in my daily life. at least a half dozen of those i've probably said today, and it is even worse when watching a game. I'm guilty of using Hawkisms outside the context of viewing a game. Sometimes it's unavoidable. For example, when playing bags I may let out a few "stretches" to extend the bag. Or when I'm approaching an intersection with an extended green light I'm thinking to myself, "Stay Green! Stay Green..........................it will." Even with their inclusion in daily life, Hawkisms often get on my nerves. More noteably when long fly balls approach the outfield fences, or when we're losing and I have to hear about our lack of a "rhythm." Or how Sox have beaten themselves more this year than all of last year. Losses are typically the most unbearable to hear Hawk, because usually he begins spinning the particular game and trying to sell our team to the viewers.

QUOTE(Steff @ Jun 21, 2006 -> 04:11 PM) Flash.. where were those..? s***, I misread several posts as a direct quotes of Guillen. I feel Hangar'd-- that is, making a statement void of facts.
