Eh, I honestly don't believe Shapiro deals one of his pitchers unless we're willing to overpay. Why help a divisional opponent retain their championship? It's not like any of the arms are draining the Indians payroll. Anyways, I'm not a fan of Mota. He's about the right-handed Marte both in stuff and mental fortitude.

OMFG, AJ'S LEADIN'!!!!!! No article, just a notice on MLB.com indicating Pierzynski overtook Liriano. Update this thread's title. Keep those votes coming in support of AJ.

QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Jul 6, 2006 -> 02:23 AM) About eight years ago or so my buddies and I would play Goldeneye for hours on end. Gotta have 'paintball' mode on, though. I remember on a few occasions getting in heated arguments over Goldeneye's multiplayer mode. The game had a tendency to bring out the competitiveness in people. Nothing I hated more than the bastards who would take advantage of N64's many glitches and place a mine somewhere you couldn't see it.

LOL. DJ a bit more enthusiastic than usual? 1.1 IP, 4 SO's. Great job from Jenks recovering.

QUOTE(Felix @ Jul 5, 2006 -> 07:34 PM) If your wording is right, then it would be more than just hitting a pitch, it would be recording a hit, meaning getting past fielders. Well, this is based entirely off a ten second teaser. I may be off on details, but I said what was given. I took 'hit' as an actual hit with defenders as well, which makes it odd to imagine a situation where you'd risk putting out players for an exhibition. Who knows if anything actually happens, or how this alleged bet is judged. Do Guillen and Woods continue playing until either completes their end of the bet? I just found it rather interesting.
-
Before switching over to the Cubs game their was a preview of a later addition of Sportsnite. It was discussed that Woods answered Guillen's call that he, Ozzie, could hit par on a gulf course before Tiger could record a hit off a major league pitcher. Not sure of the exact answer, but I don't see why Tiger would reject a friendly invitation. If such a bet were to actually occur, odds obviously are against Guillen.. Tiger has a MUCH better chance of hitting one pitch than Guillen does of hitting par. Nevertheless, it would be entertaining as hell to watch. Probably could raise some money for charity. Guillen better have some golf experience to atleast make it interesting. If Woods would be legimately interested, I would have Bobby Jenks throw against him. Have Garland or Vazquez throw and he may actually hit a HR.

Wait a second........ ECW is on the Sci-Fi channel? When the hell did this occur, and which dates do they air? Once ECW left local broadcasting, and then later TNN/Spike TV, I lost interest. Even at that point wrestling only collected a small portion of my viewing time. I'd be interested in seeing what has changed over the last several years.

I hope this ONE successful inning doesn't decides whether or not Politte remains on the team. So what, he retired Mora/Tejada/Conine? Still doesn't hide the fact his fastball isn't fast and his breaking ball doesn't break.
-
I don't care if this is labeled as "reactionary" or "negative," but after watching Garcia's weak fastball and weaker curveball I've already written him off for the year. He's not turning anything around (relating to statistics) unless his velocity returns. If it doesn't, forget about receiving value for him. Runners are going wild, curveballs are hanging left/right; he just can't rear back and fire a 94 mph fastball anymore.

QUOTE(JimH @ Jul 3, 2006 -> 07:49 PM) Suggestions? Who do you trade? That's it. Let's be realistic -- we're stuck with this rotation for the remainder of the season. Perhaps next offseason as well, which hurts me to think about. No one can feel content with the performance of our starters lately. When I'm watching nearly every Tigers starting pitcher throw good games, Santana/Liriano not even know the definition of 7 run first innings or starts with more than 4ER it concerns me. We built our team off pitching, not offense. If offense is all what was needed to win Texas would have won a few world series by now. They need to man up.

QUOTE(SoxHawk1980 @ Jul 3, 2006 -> 07:37 PM) Clearly we've got two good starting pitchers and 3 who have looked like #5 starters. Can anyone give me a good reason why our #1 need for a mid-season trade isn't a starting pitcher? We can't just count on riding this offense to the WS. We've invested too much in this rotation. But I'm officially concerned. Garcia has NOTHING on his fastball. It's embarrassing to watch him battle through. Garland and Vazquez are too inconsistent. Even Buehrle and Contreras have had their share of poor starts.
-
So, I want to know if I'm allowed to show concern with our rotation without hearing about our record? Can we realize perhaps this rotation isn't as good as we once believe?
-
That Blooper Fairy is tinkering around again. Garcia in trouble. Only so long major league hitters can't catch up to 86 mph fastblls. I can't wait until he's gone.

QUOTE(Greg The Bull Luzinski @ Jul 3, 2006 -> 07:19 PM) Would like to see the Sox score some runs without a solo homerun. Bedard's AEWSOME. Yeah, we're supposed to look at his last three starts and ignore all those before it. . I suppose I'll read the newspaper next week and notice Bedard gave up 4ER, 8 hits over 6 IP.

QUOTE(jphat007 @ Jul 3, 2006 -> 07:17 PM) More f***ing bloopers. They are coming at an incredible rate. Blame Garcia. Don't blame the blooper fairy.

QUOTE(TitoMB345 @ Jul 3, 2006 -> 07:15 PM) Seriously though, what the hell is a Mata Bata Cola? An Italian host on WSCR 670 (radio station). Hawk believes it's an awesome name and wanted to commemorate it on the diamond somehow. Whenever there's a broken bat he typically says it.
-
Please Garcia. Pitch well so you can increase your stock and we can ship you over the offseaon. Garland and Vazquez sure as hell aren't giving us much.
-
According to CSN's radar gun Bedard is consistently hitting 97 mph and Freddy is routinely hitting 87-88. Not even an additional 3-4 mph on a fastball can make his velocity look good. I believe something is definitely wrong with him.
-
QUOTE(Greg The Bull Luzinski @ Jul 3, 2006 -> 05:36 PM) The Freddy Garcia deal keeps looking better. Mike Morse isn't exactly tearing it up in AAA, either. .250/.301/.436. Only 4 HR's.

QUOTE(shawnhillegas @ Jul 3, 2006 -> 03:54 AM) Well, Liriano is the toughest all-star question Ive ever seen. Theres no doubt in my mind that hes better than Beurhle, hes already pitched in relief this season, he may be the best pitcher in baseball right now. But seriously, Beurhle is the workhouse of the World Champions, Liriano only started 1/2 of the first half of the season, and he has yet to throw in a single meaningful game. For traditions sake, Id take Beurhle, but for the better chance to win, Id do whatever I could to get Liriano and Verlander in the game. But seriously, arent we all glad that Mark Redman is getting the respect he deserves, FINALLY! Hey, only Hawk can use sentences which speak in such definitive terms! Reading Cowley's article just now I had to laugh. Guillen couldn't piss off more people if he tried. I love it. I knew prior to selections no matter who he picked, there were going to be people complaining. It's inevitable with fans voting in their favorites, often regardless of statistics, a manager selecting players over others would draw criticism. Especially for selecting his own teammates. Here are some good quotes from Cowley's piece: http://www.suntimes.com/output/sports/cst-spt-stars03.html

Dougly, noticed it's only one more month until your birthday. You going to whore it again for attention? You know, sort of like this thread is accomplishing. BTW, I sent your picture to a few girls I know and it moistened panties. True story.
-
I'm very torn, as one could imagine. Liriano obviously deserves the rotation spot if we're judging on merit alone............. But God dammit, I'm biased. Pierzynski gets my vote. As I figure, Liriano will have many years left to worry about All-Star appearances. Who knows how many Pierzysnki will have left with Mauer set to dominate the position. Above all other factors, I love to see people aggrivated. Nothing would be sweeter than having ANOTHER reason for the nation to hate Pierzynski.

I'm glad Lumsden is pitching well. Trust me when I suggest there's nothing I would love more than to be proven wrong with our pitching prospects. It only helps for contributing arms to emerge from within the system. I recall when the Thome trade occured someone (whether it's Randar or Chisox) commenting on concerns with Gonzalez's small figure. Past injuries nonwithstanding, Lumsden has a 6'4 frame with a relatively easy delivery. Good future ahead if he can remain healthy; whether that's in the rotation or bullpen. Comparing Lumsden and Gonzalez is interesting. It's as if both seem to have qualities the other doesn't. Lumsden has a better ERA (more than a run), 14 less walks, 10 less HR's allowed (although the park or competition may play a role) with merely 3 more innings pitched. Gonzalez, however, has given up 10 less hits and struck out 48 more batters. Considering the difference in earned runs (11), it's surprising only 10 hits separates Gio from Lumsden. I'll take a guess Gio doesn't fare too well with RISP or other tight situations.

QUOTE(aboz56 @ Jul 2, 2006 -> 08:53 PM) Just because he had a bad game today, he (Buehrle) doesn't deserve to make the team? He had 9 wins and a top 5 AL era before today when I remind you the team was already picked. He doesn't deserve to start, but I don't have a problem with it. We're talking about one of the top starters in baseball who has been a workhorse and an ace for us for several years now. Not to mention he is a class guy and a winner. We should celebrate him going and not worry about Liriano or Verlander or any other pitcher who is NOT on the team. I know that's not what I'm suggesting. It's because of this afternoon that selecting Buehrle over Schilling or anyone else worthy looks bad. People won't care about when players were picked. They'll look at Buehrle, look at today's boxscore, and wonder -- "how the hell did he make the All-Star team?" Again, his crappy performance happen at a poor time.
