QUOTE (knightni @ May 12, 2009 -> 06:45 PM) You never know... Yeah, that would be a problem. Although the chat crew would prolong my memory and continue the fight. Until they too are banned, then it would basically be over. -

QUOTE (Reddy @ May 12, 2009 -> 06:40 PM) i don't really get why this is... how is any of this his fault per se? Does there have to be a legitimate, quantifiable reason to dislike someone? Well, first he's atrocious, second he's likely in the lineup more for Williams' ego than anything else, and third, he looks like a child. Someone needs to kidnap him from the playground with candy. He should take some HGH, too. -

QUOTE (fathom @ May 12, 2009 -> 06:35 PM) I said it last night. By no fault of his own, he's the most unlikeable Sox player in ages...maybe since Jaime Navarro. I don't know how all Sox fans collectively regard Lillibridge, but he's on a fast track in my mind to surpass the hatred I held for Koch. -

Can someone make a signature of that heroic sequence? I want it to have today's date, a picture of Lillibridge swinging his bat, a background of the Hall of Fame, and a special note that says "10 pitch AB." At the bottom there should be a note that the ball traveled over 200 ft. -

I believe we've found our season highlight for Lillibridge. No matter how this AB ends, it will forever be associated with him for the rest of his career. -

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 12, 2009 -> 06:15 PM) Makes sense to me. Everyone who could stand in the way of Lillibridge getting playing time has been injured or benched for no reason. Well, if it makes sense to you that's all thats important. -

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 12, 2009 -> 03:53 PM) Nix, SS Getz, 2B Dye, RF Thome, DH Konerko, 1B Fields, 3B Miller, C Podsednik, LF Lillibridge, CF This is a disgusting line-up. 3 out of 9 don't have career avg. above .200. I almost expect the offense to score 10 runs and for Richard to hold Cleveland scoreless just because it opposes every feeling within me that says this, if a statistical measure were created to estimate our chance of winning a ballgame (percentage wise) before a game, this would be the lowest in years. -
Looks like I'm the only one doing their part to shamelessly bump this thread. Even though the turnout two games ago was good, so I'll give you people a pass. Oh, and get in there. YO

Jenks was trying to throw at, but not hit Kinsler

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 11, 2009 -> 06:55 AM) Supposedly, Jenks' point was not to hit him, just a pitch to say hello and the Sox had enough of getting hit. That's what they're saying, but it's not the truth. This is point I was making in my previous post of people believing lies that, to me, seem so blatantly obvious. Just think about it -- they thought about sending a message to the Rangers that they're tired of being targets, so instead of hitting one of their batters, which is really the best way of conveying that message, they throw behind him? If such a belief was held true by the ballclub that you can miss the play and still send the same message, then why did Guillen yell at Sean Tracey a few years ago when he couldn't hit the opposing batters ? Guillen should have been happy the message was sent, yet no baserunners were aboard, right? -
QUOTE (Heads22 @ May 10, 2009 -> 11:34 PM) MY GOD WHERE'S ROW44 IS HE OK??? [/small concern] Yeah, he's probably dead. /no concern

Jenks was trying to throw at, but not hit Kinsler
Flash Tizzle replied to Heads22's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Why does it seem like when our pitchers try to intentionally hit someone they always miss? I know it happened a few times last season. In my mind, throwing behind the runner looks more intentional then if he had actually hit him. Jenks would have just played it off as an pitch that slipped. Good pitchers like Jenks just dont miss two feet off the plate, behind the batter, on accident. If there is a program out there capable of tracking all of Jenks pitches as a major leaguer, I'd guess he has maybe thrown a pitch that far off the plate once or twice. And the other instances would probably be in scenarios he also tried to hit the batter and missed. Also, I always hate the argument that people use of, "well, why would he hit him in (insert situation) because (insert scenario in which runners on would be terrible)." That's EXACTLY the right moment to him someone, when you shouldn't do it. The entire point of Kinsler representing the tying run gave them plausible deniability. I really dont know how people, like Hawk for example, couldn't see through it. It reminds me of an excuse I used when I was younger, when I'd say "why would I do (act of mischief) because (scenario in which doing act would be terrible)" and people would buy it. -
Jesus. Quit f***ing around and give Poreda the opportunity, already. What are we going to do, lose 4 or 5 games out of this spot in the rotation before he is atleast given an the chance? I'd rather do it now, since we know what we have in Carrasco/Richard. Not when we're 8 games under .500 entering June. I know I'm going to be right, too. We'll go through the wheel of death, 5th starters spot trying Richard/Carrasco/whomever (maybe Pedro), then at some point, they'll promote Poreda. Maybe he'll be terrible, too. But even with a slider that works half the time I'd rather try that option than the assemblage of crap already on the roster.

The goal of replacing Contreras should be seeking the best alternative within our organization. As of now, I'd say that's Poreda. And please, can we avoid the "OH, BUT IF HE DOES BAD HIS CONFIDENCE WILL GO DOWN!" line. No, if he is promoted, does poorly, then goes back to the minors and continues pitching poorly (with no injury concerns) then he's just a pussy. And I'll be glad we figured it out now rather then at some point in a future season. He's playing a child's game, afterall. This isn't life or death. Really, let's just think about this. How difficult is it to perfect a non specialty (knuckleball) pitch? You grip the ball a certain way, throw really hard, and guess what, the ball moves. It's not a difficult concept, yet if he hasn't perfected it by now there's a reason. Two years, one full season within our system, should be enough time. His throwing motion probably limits the possibility for him to consistently throw a breaking ball/slider/offspeed pitch for strikes. If he alters the motion, then his velocity probably plummets. He is what he is, and it wont all of the sudden come to him. However, even with these issues it's still a worthwhile risk to take. Just give him the opportunity. Stop worrying about arbitration time or whether he's ready. Past pitchers promoted from AA such as Day and Munoz didn't work because they were terrible. All the seasoning in the minors wasn't going to change that. He'll probably be up here next season in some capacity anyways. Does anyone believe he'll learn a lot from this point until their season concludes? Everyone here knows Richard or Carrasco aren't long term options. We're just going to end up losing 4-5 games going with those guys before trying Poreda. Why waste any time? Just go to Poreda now and quit f***ing around.

QUOTE (danman31 @ May 9, 2009 -> 05:14 AM) Why are we taking guys that throw mid to high 80s in the 3rd round? Mark Buehrle types fall deep into the draft like he did. Draft velocity early, wtf. Remember, Edwards was selected in the 3rd round of the 2006 draft; when the White Sox still had an atrocious philosophy to drafting pitchers. I'm sure there were remarks on his scouting report such as, "competitor, throws soft, good command, pitched well on a state championship high school team, all around winner, signed on for a southern college team." I dont even know if any of those are true, but it wouldn't surprise me.
