Peavy Rejects Sox Offer; Deal Now Dead
QUOTE (BearSox @ May 21, 2009 -> 03:25 PM) And I said it before, we need to get that guy on soxtalk. Dammit, I'm too late for my comments to be viewed as original and fresh.

Peavy Rejects Sox Offer; Deal Now Dead
QUOTE (SoxAce @ May 21, 2009 -> 03:23 PM) I said it before, some of you should really eat crow for bashing the original poster on the main site about this deal earlier. I'd definitely petition for that MLB forums poster to join soxtalk. He obviously has some inside connections.

Sox vs Twins game thread May 21, 2009
Jesus Christ, and here I assumed they were going to play at 7:00 and just signed on here to view information on Jake Peavy. Although I can't say I'm shocked. Colon obviously didn't have it, but whenever you're expecting Bombs Away Broadway and Gobble to prevent anything but more runs you're going to be in trouble. The sooner Broadway's ass is sent out of the town the sooner we can go through this same process with McCulloch.

Pure Spectulation
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 20, 2009 -> 09:48 PM) You said signing players this offseason was financial suicide for the White Sox. Now picking up Peavy makes a lot of financial sense? For some reason, I don't buy this rumor at all. I guarantee if the Sox were to trade for Peavy, they're including a haul of players that would it make worthy of San Diego to pay for a portion of his salary. I wouldn't be surprised if we "overpay" for him, if this rumor is true. Look at his contract -- no way we're going to pay over 18 million for a pitcher unless there's a good amount lobbed off of it.

Pure Spectulation
QUOTE (Heads22 @ May 20, 2009 -> 09:09 PM) Rumor on ChiSox.com that the Sox are close to acquiring Peavy....now THAT's "spectulation"! We're talking about this in the chat. http://www.soxtalk.com/forums/index.php?autocom=chat The rumor from that board is a deal involving Richard, Poreda, and two PTBNLs. Yes, it seems ridiculous; but to everyone doubting this the person who posted the rumor supposedly has been correct in the past.

Films Thread
QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ May 20, 2009 -> 02:41 PM) I'm pissed off that the new Terminator is shaping up to be such a turd. I've been looking forward to this installment for a long time. There will be several more installments in the series after this. I'm actually looking forward to it, because after the abuse this movie has received it'll force them to hire writers that are capable of telling a story. Although, from some of the reviews I've read it reminds me of a moment in the movie, "The Heckler." It's a film about audience hecklers and their presence in the standup comedy world. Jamie Kennedy noted that it has not just become a review of the movie good or bad, but a competition to see who can throw out the most unique insult of a movie. I'll admit some are funny, but really, that's not the job of a film reviewer. It was discussed here on Soxtalk at one point, too. Just give the review, say why it was good or bad, and leave the comments to IMDB message boards. This is going to be a film people are going to love to hate. Yesterday I noticed it was at 23% on the Rotten Tomatoes counter. This was, admittingly, with a handful of reviews. It has now risen about 13 percentage points. Still bad.

Hell, get this! They sell it in multi packs! f***ing A! Cmon people, I dont mind giving you a piece of gum every now and then but this is crazy how I am the full time supplier for chewing gum. I hope you guys arent the begging type because NO you cannot have a piece of my gum. Damn right you're not the Candyman.

White sox loser... but achieve something that is hard to accomplish
QUOTE (fathom @ May 18, 2009 -> 03:11 PM) Shouldn't the argument not be about Swisher, but about the fact the package we received for him was such garbage? I have no problem with the Sox trading him, as Ozzie and company obviously didn't gel with his style. When you trade players and ask the opposing team to take on the entire contract, you're often going to receive crap.

White Sox @ Blue Jays--Monday, May 18th
QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ May 18, 2009 -> 02:29 PM) Getz is batting .238 and his K/BB ratio is 2:1. He is young and it is early but I am not seeing the approach tht he was suppossed to have. This seems to be the course for our minor league system. No one seems to have immediate and sustainable success.

White sox loser... but achieve something that is hard to accomplish
What the hell is with our advanced scouting? Before anything concerning Walker or the personnel someone needs to look into the people who should be providing scouting reports on pitchers never seen. This is god damn inexcusable.

White Sox @ Blue Jays--Monday, May 18th
Good effort by Podsednik. These losses have become comical. Thank god they're losing now, instead of treading around .500 and giving us the impression they're capable of competing.

Spring of '09 television season thread
Dane Cook's latest Comedy Central special was about what'd you expect from him, pure s*** -- except for far fewer animated body moments and several unexpected references to his deceased parents. If this man has a career ten years from now I'd be surprised. It'd only be to the people currently listening to him, too; not the next generation of teens/young adults.

May 17, 2009 game thread Sox @ Toronto 12:07 first pitch
Its times like these I wish Nick Swisher was around to do a CRAzzZY dugout dance to lighten up everyone and change the mood within the team. That'd switch around their fortunes.

"Laser Pulse" Discovered Coming From Space
QUOTE (BobDylan @ May 17, 2009 -> 05:43 AM) Huh? This idea is all over film, literature, and of course, video games - especially larger ones. Take a look at the game "Spore." The most powerful empire in the game is a race of tiny, pussy looking things that had to have mated with gremlins at one point in time. Well, first off I was fairly drunk when writing that. But in my mind I was thinking of biologically based aliens as big as mountains; something far outside of what we'd consider.

"Laser Pulse" Discovered Coming From Space
Has anyone ever thought of the idea of proportion in the universe? I don't know, but I've never heard anyone even humor the idea that aliens visiting from far reaches of the universe are hundreds of times larger than we are. Do we just assume that because laws of physics are consistent across the universe that extraterrestrial beings would be similarly portioned to us? Couldn't they be far larger, or maybe smaller?

Sox @ Jays 5-15
QUOTE (greg775 @ May 15, 2009 -> 11:52 PM) Since you brought it up, I'll bite. I want to win as many games as possible. I don't like to see my team lose. Period. Yes I would rather win meaningless games in September and August than lose them in hopes of lightning in a great draft pick bottle. There are no guarantees in the draft. If I had season tickets and went to a batch of games, I'd be royally pissed if the Sox were pissing away games in the hope of improving the draft stock several spots. I'm not saying "I'm a real fan!" I'm saying personally I want to win every f***ing game. Sorry. I know you're sorry, as you should be. I guess the baseball retarded never learn.

Sox @ Jays 5-15
QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ May 15, 2009 -> 09:59 PM) Offensively, yeah. His name is Bryce Harper Too bad our record won't be dismal enough to even dream about it. I don't want to draw out this argument again of hoping this team loses for the possibility of a higher draft pick (that admittingly may never amount to anything), but honestly, if we're destined to not make the playoffs this season does it matter whether we finish in last, or third with an 80-82 record? 2008 showed how quickly the team can bounce back. Anyways, if Beckham amounts to anything of value for us then we'll be thanking the embarrassment provided from that past team. Sure enough, if you were to go back in Soxtalk's archives you'd find people saying "I want the team to win every game possible!" "I'm a real fan!" Really, looking back two seasons, did it matter whether they had 72 wins and missed the playoffs or won 85 and missed it as well? It shouldn't now. I'll say this much about this entire issue. Yes, they're still within distance of the division. And yes, it's still early. I'm not going to push this purposely -lose- for- Bryce angle yet, but come July if we're in a similar position as 2007, I'll be all for it. Wouldn't it be something if Washington finishes last again, drafts Bryce, and have him and Strasburg as two generational talents on one team? It's probably the most likely scenario, too.

Films Thread
QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ May 14, 2009 -> 10:48 PM) ????? Anyway, that trailer has to be one of the worst I have ever seen, and this is one of my most looked to movies as well. Luckily they've said the trailer has little to do with the movie. I'm sure there are going to be many people faithful to the novel very upset with this trailer. It's obvious they're attempting to appeal to the general public . First off, if the movie is going to be at all close to be book the whole intro with global warming and a tornado is deceiving. Cormac McCarthy himself said in an interview that when writing of the destruction he had envisioned an asteroid hitting the planet. That would explain devastation on a scale that covers large amounts of land, blocks out the sun, and turns the Atlantic ocean grey from fallen ash. On that note, it's EXTREMELY disappointing not to observe any ash in this trailer. The book mentioned it frequently, and it added to the dreary vision in your mind of McCarthy's post apocalyptic world. I had my doubts about this film when it was delayed last fall. I believe the essential problem here is trying to faithfully adapt the book, which has sparse dialogue and numerous moments of boredom. These moments, while appealing in the book, don't translate well into film if you're putting millions into post production (ie, Special FX of cities). You figure at the end of the world it isn't going to be adventure, as much as boredom and a fight for survival outside of battling cannibals. I wonder from this trailer if the cannibal angle is going to be pushed heavily.

Lillibridge the leader to go back to Charlotte
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ May 13, 2009 -> 03:15 PM) I swear, I'm going to start banning any dumbass that goes around telling me that Walker should get fired cause we've been shutout 6 times when we throw out lineups with 4 f***ing guys that shouldnt' be starting on a major league team, most of which shouldnt' be freaking near a major league roster. Is this how WSI started their regime of terror?

Sox vs. Tribe 5/13 @ 11:05
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 13, 2009 -> 11:30 AM) Ugh. Seriously...aren't you 2 supposed to be the fast ones? That's what I thought as well. The double play wasn't turned particularly quick and he still was out. Additionally, Lillibridge seemed to lean out of the box when making contact for the pitch.

Sox vs. Tribe 5/13 @ 11:05
If Walker has any purpose with his team, he'll work with Fields on correcting his swing. This has become embarrassing.
