  1. I'm going into my 2nd season in a keeper league with some good friends that are really dedicated. We did an auction draft with a salary cap at 275. Once you draft a player for that given amount of money, you can choose to release him at the end of the year or sign him to an extension. Example, I drafted Harper for $24, so I'm extending him 10 years which will be 28 in year 1, 31 in year 2, 34 in year 3, 36 in year 4, 37 in year 5 and a dollar increments after that. We also have a a draft at the beginning of June (3 players). However, you don't get to keep these players. You do get their rights for the next draft. Say someone drafts someone for $5, you could steal him from that team. I'm currently keeping Freddie Freeman, Bryce Harper, Giancarlo Stanton, Starling Marte, Carlos Carrasco, Carlos Martinez, and Danny Salazar. I have the rights to Maikel Franco, Fransico Lindor, Eduardo Rodriguez, Steven Matz, Lance McCullers and Stephen Vogt.
  2. Illinois gets a big time recruit for the 17 class. Javon Pickett. 3 star, but really on the rise. Really good friends with Jonathan Goodwin and Tailmon
  3. QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Jan 15, 2016 -> 05:51 AM) I think it depends on who you go after and if you trust Hoiberg to coach. I think the easy star to pair with Jimmy right now that's actually available is DeMarcus Cousins.
  4. Doug Pederson to the Eagles Dirk Koetter to the Bucs.
  5. QUOTE (fathom @ Jan 14, 2016 -> 04:53 PM) I would give up hope from the Sox standpoint. When's the last time they were even linked to him? 2 weeks ago, maybe.
  6. QUOTE (Baron @ Jan 14, 2016 -> 04:33 PM) Look at the steamer projections for 2016 on his main bio page That's just a projection though? I'm sure he had a negative projection last year given from past history. Players can outplay projections.
  7. News should be coming out shortly. Illinois has their AD.
  8. QUOTE (Baron @ Jan 14, 2016 -> 04:29 PM) He's barely a defensive upgrade. He still gave up 20 runs in 2014 and 11 runs in 2015. Technically Garcia was better in that department than Fowler was. There was atleast a positive in the assists column. Cant say that for Fowler. Plus to the person who quoted Fangraphs. They have him at a -8 for next year. http://www.fangraphs.com/leaders.aspx?pos=...=&players=0 I don't see -8 anywhere.
  9. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jan 14, 2016 -> 04:23 PM) What was his WAR? The White Sox can go ahead and sign another Cub hero...it would be kind of typical. But thanks for taking every argument and making it as if you're conclusively right and it's insane to think he might not smoothly and seamlessly adjust back to the AL Central because of one year in Houston where there was zero pressure to produce anything and nobody in even Houston was paying attention. It did allow him to resuscitate his career. All of Cespedes' numbers were put up on playoff-contending teams...or at least teams who started those seasons expecting to make it, except for his rookie year in Oakland possibly. 1.4 with the Astros. 3.2 last year with the Cubs.
  10. QUOTE (AustinIllini @ Jan 14, 2016 -> 02:04 PM) I completely agree. $350 is just insane. I'll stick to the replicas. They look the same overall. That's why China is great lol. I have about 6-7 sweaters for under 200 bucks.
  11. QUOTE (Baron @ Jan 14, 2016 -> 03:36 PM) These Fowler in CF thoughts...do people keep glossing over how bad his defense was there? He was rated positively according to fangraphs. I know it's a different position, but Rizzo was a -8.7 on defense and everyone thought he was a GG there.
  12. Adam Rubin ‏@AdamRubinESPN 22m22 minutes ago The Mets are banking on: - Full year of Conforto production - More contribution from Wright - Rebound from Lagares - Healthier d'Arnaud
  13. QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Jan 14, 2016 -> 02:46 PM) Where is Desmond going to sign now? I can't think of a logical suitor besides us, and I can't see us doing that. Sign him to a 1 year deal and then offer him a QO next year.
  14. QUOTE (blackmooncreeping @ Jan 14, 2016 -> 02:46 PM) What option would you rather choose? Sign Fowler and Jackson, move Melky to DH, lose comp pick. Sign Desmond and Jackson, lose comp pick. I think better option choices would be: (no offense) A. Sign Cespedes B. Sign Fowler and one of Latos/Lincecum/Fister What makes the team better? Btw, I chose those options because we've been linked to Cespedes and Fowler rather than Jackson and Desmond.
  15. If you were Ryan Pace and Jaylon Smith is still on the board (assuming Jack, Ramsey, and Hargreaves are off), do you still draft him? I would.
  16. QUOTE (SoCalSox @ Jan 14, 2016 -> 02:42 PM) Latos would be nice but how will he cost on a 1 year deal? I would say between 8-10 million, or less than that with big incentives.
  17. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Jan 14, 2016 -> 02:40 PM) I am warming up to the idea of signing Fowler despite not liking the idea of losing the comp pick. Essentially the Sox turn Samardzija into Fowler which would help both the offense and defense. According to fangraphs, Fowler played better defense than Eaton in 15' so CF D would be upgraded. Fowler in CF pushes Eaton to LF/RF which should be an upgrade over Melky/Avi. Fowler would provide some LH pop and OBP to a lineup that needs it. Looking at that way, Fowler actually sounds like a good idea. Say we get Fowler for 3/40-45, and offered Cespedes 3/60, that money could go elsewhere in a starter or another trade for a need.
  18. QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ Jan 14, 2016 -> 02:41 PM) What is J2? July 2nd International signing period is what was meant.
  19. QUOTE (SoCalSox @ Jan 14, 2016 -> 02:36 PM) I'd really like to see Lincecum, personally. Fister, Latos, etc would be nice as more expensive options on a 1 year deal. The thing about Latos though is his age (only 28). If he does well, maybe hopes to resign him, or slap a pick on him and let him walk.
  20. QUOTE (fathom @ Jan 14, 2016 -> 02:30 PM) It's pretty simple to me...makes more sense to pay Fowler 3/45 instead of Cespedes 4/100 when Cespedes isn't exactly a consistent superstar. Say that contract you mention is what Fowler gets, I wonder if the Sox would take a look at Latos or other decent RH starters with no draft pick attached to them, then make EJ available.
  21. QUOTE (peavy44 @ Jan 14, 2016 -> 02:21 PM) I doubt that he would come back. Doesn't have a choice if he's traded here. That's fathom's point.
  22. QUOTE (blackmooncreeping @ Jan 14, 2016 -> 02:09 PM) Fowler K'd more than 150 times?? Also walked over 80 times, had a 346 obp, 17 HRs, 46 RBIs, and 20 SBs out of the leadoff spot
