QUOTE (fathom @ Jan 22, 2016 -> 11:02 PM) God knows I have too many posts in this thread that were anti-Cespedes, but for those that wanted him....would you have been ok with paying him 27.5? I wanted Cespedes, and want nothing to do with that 1 year 27.5 million contract (that's what it essentially is)
-
QUOTE (CB2.0 @ Jan 22, 2016 -> 10:47 PM) Where is this $27.5M first year that I keep seeing? Anyone have a link to contract details? Makes no sense to pay him A-ROD $, with a 1-year opt out, and an NTC....all over 3 years and $75M. That first year $ has to be BS. It's 25 million a year if he does not opt out. If he opt outs after year 1, his salary that first year will be 27.5 million. Heyman and Rosenthal tweeted it I believe.
-
QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Jan 22, 2016 -> 10:40 PM) ...while giving up 2 draft picks in the process. Hell no to that idea. I was just proving a point for what we could get for that 27.5 million.
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Jan 22, 2016 -> 10:34 PM) Still just hope that if they were in on Cespedes that they use that money elsewhere in the next few weeks. If the Sox really wanted to, I think they can get Desmond & Fowler for under 27.5 million for 2016.
-
QUOTE (SoCalSox @ Jan 22, 2016 -> 10:33 PM) I've been pretty irrational through this process with Cespedes. Both raBBit & Y2Jimmy both know that. But, how can anyone be pissed at the Sox for how this all came together? Gordon wanted to go back to KC, same with Cespedes in NYM, & Upton didn't want to be here & got 6 years. What exactly was Hahn supposed to do? Let's cool off & think rationally before blurting out some insult at the Sox organization or Hahn in general. This x100

If the Sox really wanted to, they can probably get Fowler and Desmond for under 27.5 million this year.
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Jan 22, 2016 -> 10:20 PM) Hahn said the Sox had to get creative. No way they could afford 25 million for 2016 27.5 million if he opts out in year 1.
-
To people complaining and blaming the FO, he clearly wanted to go back to the Mets, and just waited it out until the right deal came along.
-
QUOTE (Baron @ Jan 22, 2016 -> 10:14 PM) I think the team we have is pretty much going to be it on opening day. Disagree. Still think they do some type of upgrade.
-
Rosenthal said Cespedes had higher offers from multiple clubs.
-
QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Jan 22, 2016 -> 10:06 PM) This is disappointing. Very disappointing. Why? I definitely think that he wanted to stay in NY the whole time.
-
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jan 22, 2016 -> 09:53 PM) But the Nats gave him 5 years.. Looks like Roc Nation had it's bluff called, and the Mets offer was a bit lighter than they hoped. That 5 year deal was definitely a bluff. The agents are really playing the media
-
This is comical now. Me and my buddy have been texting everyday for the last month discussing possibilities. He wants to pull his hair out lol.
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Jan 22, 2016 -> 08:45 PM) Given how the last month has gone, we will surely see a tweet soon by Nightengale saying Sox won't give up draft pick to sign FA. This is a guarantee. And then Merkin will say the same thing.
-
Do the Mariners have money? King Felix, Seager, Cano, Cruz contracts eat up quite a bit.
-
QUOTE (WhiteSoxLifer @ Jan 22, 2016 -> 08:38 PM) there are more than just the mets and nats in on cespedes. #mystry teams https://twitter.com/JonHeyman/status/690724259589701632 Lmao, here we go again.
-
QUOTE (AustinIllini @ Jan 22, 2016 -> 07:37 PM) I don't want to play them in the playoffs. Thankfully we likely won't have to. 8 players playing in this game that were not on the roster last June. Scuderi with a terrible turnover and Ekblad with a clap bomb over Darling's glove.
-
Bulls continue to be bad.
-
QUOTE (AustinIllini @ Jan 22, 2016 -> 07:30 PM) Agreed. These teams are even with Crawford in goal. Luckily we aren't in the East, because I don't want either Florida team in the playoffs this season. Meaning you don't want to see them in the playoffs in general because you don't like them or because they're a tough matchup against the Hawks? I would love to see Florida in the playoffs. Tallon really has done a great job rebuilding that organization
-
Darling not having a good night. Hawks defense isn't helping him much either, but 2 of those goals he should of definitely had.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jan 22, 2016 -> 02:12 PM) I forgot to include the Astros as a team that's been linked to Desmond For the OF, obviously?
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Jan 22, 2016 -> 02:05 PM) Conforto can't play RF though Move Melky to RF.
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Jan 22, 2016 -> 02:02 PM) Nice list...probably not going to get Inciarte, Marte, Polanco, Conforto or Springer for him. Dickerson is the obviously candidate. If Mets do get Cespedes, could make Conforto expendable and they need a SS of the future.
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Jan 22, 2016 -> 01:57 PM) I'm sure I'll get roasted for this, but what about signing Desmond and then trading Anderson for a cost-controlled outfielder? I like Anderson, but he's far from a lock to be a quality MLB player. What OF fits that bill? Ender Inciarte? Starling Marte? Gregory Polonco? Joc Pederson? Michael Conforto? George Springer? Preston Tucker? Corey Dickerson?
