  1. QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Jun 4, 2014 -> 11:41 AM) The draft under KW was a totally different animal though. The Sox did not pick BPA, they picked the BPA for the amount of money that we had left in the budget to spend in the draft. Cutting back salaries has allowed the team to be more aggressive in the draft going after top tier talent instead of guys they can sign on the cheap. I totally agree that if the Sox would have built there system they would not have been in that situation, but last years deals were paying for the sins of the past and now we have to move forward with a new approach instead of sinking back into what got us in trouble in the first place. Yet, when you look at it. When KW traded our "good" prospects for MLB proven talent, none of which has come back to bite us. There isn't a single prospect that we traded that I can say that dang we should of kept him.
  2. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 4, 2014 -> 11:39 AM) I don't understand how this could be a conclusion. The Sox would have been in on Abreu regardless. I really don't care Rios is gone, and the return was meh, but that is what a guy with Rios' reputation and contract bring. Besides, if A. Garcia didn't get hurt, where would he play? But, the Sox offered real money to Tanaka. If Rios meant they couldn't sign anyone else, I don't know how they could have bid on him. There was always going to be money for Abreu. I agree.
  3. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 4, 2014 -> 11:33 AM) The problem is that Viciedo and Eaton are both hitting terribly right now, and we don't have the quality in Sierra/DeAza to cover for Garcia's departure. They were hot at the beginning of the year. Everyone struggles at some point in the year. Its baseball, it happens. Remember when Abreu was in a 1-22 slump and then another 1-18 slump, yeah it happens. Everyone needs to relax. Sox are STILL at 500 and 4 gb of Tigers and 1 gb of the Wild Card.
  4. QUOTE (oldsox @ Jun 4, 2014 -> 07:43 AM) The Peavy trade was good, can't blame Garcia's injury on Hahn. Got two excellent pitching prospects with Avisail. Peavy has been hit pretty hard this year. Rest of post is valid. The Rios trade is looking like its pretty bad, should of gotten more, but that Reed for Davidson trade you still do. Every time you have the potential of acquiring a young 3b with MLB experience already who can play every day, you make that trade 10 out of 10. Yes Davidson is struggling, but I am not upset about the trade. Sure you can say we could of gotten someone else for Reed, but AT THE TIME, Davidson had come off a great year with some success with Arizona. Remind you, Davidson is still only 23, and Reed is your middle of the pack closer. I would still make that trade.
  5. QUOTE (robinventura23 @ Jun 4, 2014 -> 10:54 AM) After they grab one of the top pitchers, whoever it might be, I hope they stock up on OF or Cs. First 5 rounds I think will be all pitching in my opinion. QUOTE (StRoostifer @ Jun 4, 2014 -> 10:58 AM) Seeing as how there's usually a shake up from the predicted mock drafts, I'm going with this... 1- Rodon- Houston 2- Jackson- Miami 3- Aiken- Sox 4- Nola- Cubs 5- Kolek- Twins This is how I think its going to go too.
  6. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 4, 2014 -> 11:18 AM) Until this recent Tim Anderson stretch, things looked pretty hopeless... I disagree, even though some guys still have low batting averages and what not, there are prospects heating up as of late
  7. http://www.milb.com/scoreboard/index.jsp?c...mp;ymd=20140604 Surkamp and Heath for Charlotte (Double Header) Recchia for Birmingham Wendelken for Winston Salem (one of my favorite pitching prospects in the system) Guerrero gets a spot start for Kanny
  8. Kolek or Aiken
  9. That change up was filthy
  10. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 3, 2014 -> 10:28 PM) Nice defense so far tonight Shhhh dont jynx it
  11. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 3, 2014 -> 10:16 PM) Viciedo's bat speed seems to be slipping. He's been fouling off a lot of good pitches to hit instead of putting them in play. Everyone is allowed to be in a slump. Happens to everyone.
  12. Got something brewin'
  13. QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Jun 3, 2014 -> 09:16 PM) How many days does the draft last? Thursday is first round. Then the rest friday I believe.
  14. I'd like to see De Michele get called up to AA. There are two prospects in that line up. Very discouraging.
  15. QUOTE (ron883 @ Jun 3, 2014 -> 09:01 PM) I read somebody call Saladino a non-prospect recently. The guy is hitting very respectably for a SS. Anybody think he can be a starter in the MLB? No, most likely super utility. He's been playing some OF as of late too.
  16. QUOTE (flavum @ Jun 3, 2014 -> 02:38 PM) Anderson's walkoff hr http://m.milb.com/t580/video/ He killed that.
  17. QUOTE (Bigsoxhurt35 @ Jun 3, 2014 -> 02:29 PM) Any chance our 3rd overall pick is sent to kannapolis by the 19th or at all? Kanny is coming to charleston. I'm going to see Rondon. Was curious if they'd send him there first. This is probably a dumb question but I thought about this the other day, if our 3rd pick, for example, was Kolek. And he didn't become a starter but became a lights out closer like Rivera and stayed with us like Mo did NY, would you be ok with still taking him? I would be going for Rondon and Michalczewski
  18. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jun 3, 2014 -> 02:25 PM) Some rumors on twitter about a predraft agreement between Marlins and Alex Jackson. Aiken or Rodon
  19. http://www.milb.com/scoreboard/index.jsp?s...mp;ymd=20140603 Hanson for Charlotte Snodgress for Birmingham Danish for Winston Salem TBA for Kanny
  20. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Jun 3, 2014 -> 10:39 AM) I honestly don't think Verlander and Price are really even in the discussion anymore. Give me Wainwright, Tanaka, Hernandez, Teheran or Cueto over them at this point. You're right. I'd take Wainwright and Hernandez over Price and Verlander. Tanaka still needs to prove it over more than 2 months.
  21. QUOTE (whtsoxfan @ Jun 3, 2014 -> 09:49 AM) Is White Sox Chris Sale the best pitcher in MLB? http://www.csnchicago.com/white-sox/white-...est-pitcher-mlb Definitely top 5 with Kershaw, Fernandez, Verlander and Price.
  22. QUOTE (Dunt @ Jun 2, 2014 -> 10:59 PM) I know Beckham sucks too, but where the hell was Eaton on that popup? I thought he was suppose to be a burner? Come on. That was a long way to go for Eaton. No way he was getting that ball
  23. Wilkins is starting to heat up too. 3-4 tonight average up to 221 Jaye also worth a good start too. Maybe see him back up later in the year.
