ALDS Game 4 - HOU @ CWS - 1:07 pm CDT
Dusty is certainly improving the chances of that "anything could happen in game 5" mentality by pitching McCullers tomorrow and having Gio go against (most likely) Valdez on Wednesday. Of course, Wednesday never happens if the Astros take care of business tomorrow. So yeah. I am a coin flip on this - we had to beat LMJ regardless. I think we have a better chance to do that tomorrow at home than Wednesday in Houston.

Interesting. Makes winning tomorrow probably a little harder than facing Urquidy, but we were going to have to beat McCullers in game 5 to advance anyway. Makes game 4 harder, but with a win, puts the Sox in as good of a position as possible for a game 5 W @ Houston. #SOXINFIVE

I don't see how anyone can look at this years final standings/playoffs race and say "expanded playoffs is the answer!". Really hope they don't forever dilute the game with more expansion.

If Rodon can only go a couple innings, its pretty much necessary. I'd prefer Lynn over Reylo. If pen needs to eat 5-7 innings, Lance is going to be needed. Hopefully TLR's comments that he was "in pen" last night is indication that a potential game 5 is Giolito's for sure. With TLR, I don't take what appears to be common sense thinking for granted.

Tepera said out loud what everybody is thinking
Probably would have been best to leave this thought to himself, honestly. Seems to have become a major talking point of the series now. BUt not sure it matters too much either way. Just win.

Right. I also think there will be some % of fans that just can't make it. You take off work Monday to go to the game, and now suddenly you have to take off Tuesday as well? Lots of work stuff rescheduled from Mon to Tue, etc. Most die hards will make it work, but for some it simply won't be possible. Hope I am wrong, but I am not expecting nearly as good of an atmosphere. But frankly, I didn't for today's game either with it being a day game. But I did feel like Sox were better prepared to handle a game with multiple rain delays than the Astros. So I am bummed its not happening today. Personally, I am watching the game regardless but 1pm tomorrow is far less convenient.

To clarify - confirm he wasn't announced? Or confirm he's not with the team?

We even sure what the atmosphere is going to be like tomorrow at 1pm on Tuesday with a make-up game time? I'd be shocked if the crowd was even half as rowdy as last night.

Was a strange strike zone. Don't see how the missed strike 3 to Grandal in the 3rd isn't the biggest call of the game though. He goes on to hit a 2 run homer, and the sox Score 5 in the inning. That said, he wasn't giving the high strike all game to either side.

Exactly. Not overly impressed with Houston's pen.

I think its highly unlikely the Sox were playing games in the media as going so would/will negatively impact Rodon's free agency. Which they certainly have. I too hope he shows electric stuff tonight, but he showed plenty of signs of injury in his last start. His was sitting 89-91 on the FB and was a flyball machine. That is nothing like he was in April/May/early June. Can that version still be effective? His last start would indicate yes, but his shoulder clearly isn't what it was.

My understanding is that the rule says the runner establishes his own baseline. He doesn't have to run down the chalk. He just can't "intentionally" interfere with the ball. I have no doubt in my mind that Grandal positioned himself such that Gurriel had to adjust his throw. Guys do that all the time - its just seen more often between 1st and 2nd. But Yaz didn't stick his arm out. Gurriel hit him in the shoulder. I think the way the rule reads - its about intent. And since the play is not reviewable, its umpire discretion. IMO, the Sox caught a break but it was a heady play and ended up being a crucial moment.

That not what the rule says.

Certainly not an ideal start, but let’s hold them there for a few innings Michael.

I in no shape or form would ever root against the white Sox in the playoffs. TLR will be back until he chooses to retire again, he has health issues or gets in more legal trouble. A loss today changes nothing, except (most of) our favorite team is done for the year. Sox will look to improve RF and 2B this offseason regardless of tonight’s result. With the right moves, hopefully that helps team defense and adds some left handed pop/lineup balance we badly need.

Well if Sox get a win tonight, Sox fans get yet another weekday day game tomorrow! What a joke this schedule has been.

Too early for Hamilton there IMO. Using 2 bench bats there in a tie game for a lead off pinch hit and with the lineup surely to turn over again and give Billy at least one at bat in a tight game doesn’t seem like the best decision. Should have just left Engel in, even tho he’s been worthless at the dish.

"TLR isn’t helping Sox, who may be beyond it"
Bummer had been really good for awhile heading into the playoffs. Just didn’t have it Friday, but it was a far less than optimal spot to use him.

Madrigal
You said he’ll never be better than a replacement level player. He was well above that in less than half a season. It’s math. So yeah, you’re still wrong.

He was on pace for 4 fWAR season. So yeah, you’re wrong.
