The more than generous Abreu contract helps out with that, at least.
We "look" like we're at least sorta trying, to do something.
The Abreu contract, while absolutely horrible, actually decreased his salary in 2020.

Did you guys seriously think the Sox were going to sign Rendon? I never thought that was even a remote possibility.
Same. They were never moving Moncada again.

$73 million is a far cry from $250 million. Time to start playing with the big boys if you want to win like the big boys.
There had been exactly 2 contracts over $250M in the history of baseball 10 months ago. Still as of right now, only 10 contracts over $210M in the history of the game.
Sometimes context is important.

It isn’t little cost. You are paying Price probably $50 million too much just for Benitendi. Then you get his arb. There is no bargain here at all. It’s an overpay. Sure he might rebound, but why take that chance. Why let them off the hook?
I mean, it looks like these are the types of risks the Sox may have to take if they can’t get FA to take super legitimate offers. But I agree - really not my favorite route unless it’s seemingly too good to be true.
-
If the Red Sox are sending along like $30M, I'd be a lot more interested than if they're not. Price at $32M AAV is crazy. Getting Benintendi would be great. Happy to give them Mazara in the deal - no idea if that is something they would even entertain. Hard to know what the prospect package they would expect with covering ~33% of his deal.
I would think others teams would be interested if they're willing to prorate his deal to that degree. Interesting potential deal, but just feels like too many moving parts to see it realistically coming to fruition.

Stick to trying to defend bad player acquisitions. Your comedy act is lacking.
Lol, your posting act is lacking. Why even bother with this team - and more importantly why spend so much of your time trying to convince a group of fans that everything about the organization they love is a joke?
You have yet to see me "defend" the Mazara move - I've said he's better than backing up the brinks truck every two weeks for 5 years for shitty RF options on the FA market. He's a flier. It's gross, but they could have certainly done worse. I've told you at least 3 times today I wouldn't have made this move at this junture. But its also an enormous upgrade over what we had (which anything frankly would be), and the world is not ending.

Oh. He’s a 32 year old who spent a couple of years dominating Asian ball but sucks in the USA. Yeah, I’m good.
Lol, he is an incredibly interesting guy a $3M AAV. You don't even need him to be very good to come out ahead on that deal.

Rabbit comes in with the cold bath of water. RIP unrealistic mega deal in which we acquire Price + Sale + Benintendi for a hot dog vendor, Abreu's next bulk shipment of Redman, Moan4Yoan and Blake Rutherford. I was excited.

Huh? Getting a 24 year old who’s hit 19 or 20 homeruns every year he’s been in the league with OPS and SLG trending upward is despised, but paying $9 million a year for the next three for a guy who’s pitched 10 IP since 2014 is what some people were actually excited about?
Dig a little deeper there, Sir.

All that stuff Hahn said about trading prospects only for young players with 4 or 5 years of control?
Forget it.This is trade the top prospects for 2 years of a veteran top of offers, with Hahn as the dupe.
And, no, an injured Chris Sale does not warrant a top prospect. Good lord.
The White Sox aren't giving up top prospects to acquire the David Price at slightly less than Cole's AAV. GMAFB

I will say those bizarre Hahn quotes from earlier today suggest Sale.
Which ones - trying to catch up here, not sure I saw all his quotes but the little 75 second video DVS posted, which was mainly about Mazara.

like or hate the trade, at least it keeps Jason Kinander from rehashing the Joc Pederson rumors for a third season in a row next year
If Mazara isn't a FA next offseason, that means this trade worked out really well for the Sox.

I will eat my hat if the Sox trade for Chris Sale.
Noted - i've always wanted to watch someone try to eat a hat? Is ranch allowed?

The return of Sale would be awfully entertaining.
