Mendick has played SS more than any other position in the minors. He's played all SS, 2B and 3B about this same this season, with a little LF sprinkled in (including getting the start in LF tonight). Can't speak to his defense at SS specifically, but think he's known to be a solid defender.

Alex Call is not a prospect. But yah, Alonso sucks. I figured he wasn't the least of our worries heading into the season, but he was in fact dreadful and should have been cut a few weeks ago. But he is now.

I am sure Cordell or even Leury could play 1B too. Cordell played alot of IF before coming over to the Sox.

Gross, but at this point I am fine with it. I'd really prefer they just keep Leury in CF and Jay in RF most days. But I guess we'll see what they do soon enough.

Goins, Escobar and Mendick all in Charlotte line up tonight. No Palka.

To answer my own question, he's played 30 innings in LF this season.

He will still see regular at bats when Welington comes back. Catillo will just play against LHP. It works well.

There really aren't many options. Kubat or Nicolino. Detwiler pitched Monday. Santiago Tuesday. Covey Wednesday. Cease tonight. Its either Kubat, Nicolino or maybe Banuelos is ready to go by tomorrow?

None of the pitchers that could pitch tomorrow are on the 40 man.

I think Tilson will go before Cordell.

I don't think he'll be anything, but he's got a sliver of chance to be something whereas as Goins and Escobar we already know suck balls at major league baseball. May as well give the kid a shot.

Any chance Cease doesn't make this start and is on his way to Chicago? Kubat getting the start tomorrow would be OK, I guess.

High ankle sprains usually take at least a month to heal. Same injury Eloy had. He missed just short of a month.

Its pretty much guaranteed to be one of Kubat or Nicolino for tomorrow's start. Unless they go another pen day. And it should be Mendick for Timmy's spot, but wouldn't put Goins or Escobar past the Sox.

Timmy is almost certainly going to be out more than 8 games.

There are going two 25 man spots to fill. Timmy and Yonder. One will be pitcher, one probably won't. We know the pitcher won't be on the 40 man, because we have no one of the 40 man that will be ready to start tomorrow.

Because you let the kid in Mendick have a shot while there is a shot to give. Major league opportunities are going to be harder to come by in 2020 and beyond. You don't waste these opportunities on AAAA players in their 30s like Goins.

Goins has an OPS+ over 64 across over 1,500 MLB PA. If they call him up, we need to riot.

Definitely a pitcher for tomorrow. And then I bet Mendick for Anderson.
