I kinda like Despaigne. He’s entertaining. -

I think he’ll be fine. He’s been quite good in AAA this season. -
Unlikely.

What options does Renteria have with Yonder Alonso?

I will bet you any dollar amount you'd like, Lip. -
It'd be nice to get Vaughn in the fold here ASAP.

I agree Jay serves no purpose, but they're going to run him out there for a few weeks, and he'll likely be on another team by the end of July. I am pretty sure we know Tilson and Cordell aren't future everyday OF. I'd probably prefer to just keep playing those guys over Jay, but I am not going to lose any sleep over it. Leury is most definitely not the leadoff hitter of the future and I am not claiming him to be. I just think he's the most logical option on the roster. To be clear, I wouldn't be outraged if the Sox flipped Anderson and Leury in the order, I just don't really have an issue with it. -

I don't think we'll see Robert until late May, but yah he'll be the CF when he arrives. I have Leury in RF for next season right now once Robert comes up. The OF bats I was interested in in FA next offseason make far less sense for the Sox now that the 1B/DH situation is very crowded with Vaughn in the fold. Ozuna would have been fine in RF for a season then shifting to DH, but that may be tough if the Sox actually want to keep Abreu around. -

Timmy has a career OBP of .294. Sure he's doing much better this year, but he has still only taken 7 walks all season. You want you lead off hitter to get on base a lot and make the pitcher throw as many pitches as possible. He has gotten on base at a nice clip this year due to his very strong BABIP, but really the only "lead-off" characteristic he has is speed and stolen bases. Timmy will be a very good bottom of the order hitter for this team in the future, and I have no problem batting him there now. I do suspect Jay will lead off when he arrives and Leury will move down. -

Meh. Tim Anderson is very clearly not a leadoff hitter IMO. I have zero issue with Leury batting leadoff. -

Big fan of the Scotter Gennett idea, just not sure how short term / stop gap he'd be. -

Leury will be a FA following 2020. I agree he'd be great in a super utility role, but unless the Sox go balls deep in FA this offseason, he's pretty much guaranteed to be used as an everyday OF next season. -

Ricky with two solid lineups in a row. Not much to complain about here. If alonso plays, the 6 spot is probably best otherwise the bottom of the order is very lefty heavy. -
Despaigne called up; Delmonico released; Fry to IL
ChiSox59 replied to ChiSox59's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Per MLBTR on Delmonico discussion: Injured players can’t be run through outright waivers, so Chicago opted to simply release Delmonico to open the necessary 40-man roster spot. As noted at the time of his surgery, it’s commonplace to see teams release and then re-sign 40-man players who incur a season-ending injury while in the minors. That could well be the case here. Delmonico certainly has the right to explore other options, but as a player who’s fresh off surgery and won’t be ready to play until 2020, his appeal to a new organization will be fairly limited. -

I believe they'd need to promote him back to the bigs then immediately place him on the 60 day IL. Which I am sure Nicky would be thrilled about (more $/more service time). Just a bizarre scenario that doesn't play out too often. For example, the Sox would never do that with Adolfo, but in Nicky's case I doubt the Sox care about the service time at all. I guess we'll find out before too long as Nicky's 40 man spot is likely going to be needed between now and 8/1 IMO. -

I've got a buddy who has been on super heavy adderall since he was a kid. Literally cannot live without it at this point. Its kind of sad. Maybe he actually (medically) needs it.....but I kind of think he is just purely addicted to it at this point. A few years back he got his bottle of adderall stolen when hosting a party, and the doctor wouldn't fill his prescription early, and he literally ruined a few close friendships playing the blame game because he wanted his drugs so bad. Sad. -

That is almost certainly what happened and really the only thing that makes sense with the Sox optioning him instead of placing him on IL. -

How did Delmonico sustain a season ending shoulder injury when he not appear in a game between being optioned and getting surgery? -

Maybe semantics, but can they shift Nicky to the 60 day IL when hes on the minor league IL? -

I mean I get it. I just think the Delmonico situation is unique. Why didn't they put him on the mlb IL a few weeks ago if he was hurt? Why did they option him and then he had surgery before appearing in AAA after being demoted? Its strange. If you're right, and you may be, the situation almost sucks more for Delmonico as he isn't cashing an MLB paycheck while he's out for the year. Obviously a grievance would be filed, but if this activity is allowed, why didn't the Sox option Kopech before his TJS, and then place him on the minor league IL to save service time? Part of the issue is we probably don't know the whole story with Nicky, but the whole situation is weird. -

So MLB teams are required to keep a minor leaguer on their 40 man even if he is hurt and out for the season? What happens if 6-8 guys in the minors but on the 40 man all got hurt in one season and are done for the year? The team is basically working with a 32 man roster then? Farfetched scenario obviously, but I think there may be some gray area here. If you're right, the Sox should do what I just explained in the post above. Recall Delmonico, place him on the 60 day IL immediately, then add Despaigne to the 40 man. Why give away an asset if you don't need to? -

ChiSox59 replied to ChiSox59's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Honestly, if Delmonico cannot be DFA'd they should recall him and immediately place him on the MLB 60 day IL to create 40 man space. Why would you DFA another player if you don't have to? He cannot play this season and is taking up a 40 man spot for no reason. At least with Adolfo, he's a legit prospect. With Delmonico, chances are fairly decent he never plays for the White Sox again. Very different scenarios. This is a fairly unique situation. I know a good amount about MLB roster management and how it all works, but this is one situation that I am not 100% sure of the rules on. I would love to hear from someone that is 100% positive on the rules in this situation and what options the Sox have. -

I don't recall all the details. That may have been it, I just know he was suspended at one point, and I believe Baltimore released him due to it. -

He is not on the major league IL. I could be wrong, but I think that is the major distinction here. If he were on the MLB IL, I agree. They also could just shift him to the 60 day IL to clear him from the roster, and then figure out what to do in the offseason. But since he is on the IL in AAA, they cannot do that (if my understanding is correct).
