I’m not saying they will other than trying to be optimistic in the moment. When honestly there is little reason to be. Two weeks probably doesn’t change the calculus much when the owners already have a set number of games in mind that they are willing to miss. In two weeks we are likely right back where we were yesterday with more posturing over best and final offers that still aren’t good enough. Attempt after futile attempt to make the Union cave. Until owners feel that pain of lost revenue I fear this is going nowhere.
Yeah that language was likely hardline for more pressure on the Union to fold. Now that they haven’t MLB has to walk it back a bit. Their best and final offer still wasn’t good enough and they know the Union isn’t going to fold over lost games so they have to come up with something better. We just have to hope that it only costs us two weeks of games and not two months for the owners to put out their best.
Coaches & trainers are probably on contract, so they probably still get paid? Stadium staff etc are all boned in the meantime. Networks are likely scrambling to fill the programming gaps now. This is the ugly fallout.
I am hoping its just hot air for one last push on some things. But 48 hours ago MLB was perfectly content to miss a month of games? I wouldn't be surprised one bit if the last 24 hours were completely for show to say they tried and blame the players.
