  1. QUOTE (raBBit @ Apr 25, 2017 -> 07:46 PM) Beck has been a very boring and uninspiring pitcher but he's looked a bit different this year. Velo is up and slider is sharper. I wouldn't hitch my wagon to him having success but I like his changes this time around more than I've liked any other. I assume this was written BEFORE the 9th inning tonight? Mark
  2. Can't count on a guy who can't stay healthy. Four Sox pitchers now on the DL. Mark
  3. Still very early and time will ultimately tell but who knows, Davidson may be someone who can contribute for the next several years in some role. We'll know more I guess when the Sox either trade Frazier or he leaves via free agency. And this is a weird stat, Sox have a bad, bad offense...yet three times already they've scored 10 or more runs in a game. Mark
  4. Hey they scored some runs! Regarding Davidson not playing again RR said it's because he wants to give some other players an opportunity against the specific pitchers the Sox have been facing the past few games. (In other words bench one of the few decent hitters on the team to tank games!) And you know what, I'm OK with that...stay with the plan. Mark
  5. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Apr 23, 2017 -> 10:22 AM) Let's strive mightily to win Let's strive mightily to score a run...LOL. Mark
  6. And now...it begins....the major drop into the Seth Beer sweepstakes. One thing I will say that surprises me is the attendance figures for some of these home games. Obviously a lot of Sox fans understand and approve of the rebuild. Either that or the Sox are really padding the figures. Regarding Putnam...he's the same as Petricka and Tilson...can't stay healthy. Meaning they aren't worth anything even in a trade for a low A ball player. Not that they are trying to get hurt...some guys are just unlucky. Mark
  7. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Apr 22, 2017 -> 04:06 PM) I am certainly anxious to see what Tilson can do Yesterday he was moved to the 60 day DL...so it could be awhile. Mark
  8. Sox have scored 14 runs in their last seven games. They have scored a total of four runs for Q ALL SEASON. One run in his last three starts. They need to trade him right now before he loses his f***ing mind! Mark
  9. The injuries keep piling up. Guess this isn't a bad year for it to happen though. Mark
  10. QUOTE (ptatc @ Apr 21, 2017 -> 04:09 PM) That's seems familiar. I think you're right. Because a number of his players were going to become free agents, because the division between Finley and said players was so deep and because Finley was cheap and wasn't going to be able to re-sign them he decided to sell them off, get what he could for them and reinvest what was huge money back into his farm system and towards signing future players. For all his faults, Finley knew talent...he basically signed and built the three time defending World Series champions from 72-73-74. The deals that were made (before commissioner Bowie Kuhn stepped in a nullified them) was the following: Reggie Jackson and Ken Holtzman were traded to Baltimore a week prior to the start of the 1976 season. He got back Don Baylor, Mike Torrez and Paul Mitchell. This deal was allowed to go through by MLB. Finley attempted to sell Joe Rudi and Rollie Fingers to the Red Sox for one million each. This was after a deal involving those two PLUS Vida Blue, Gene Tenace and Sal Bando for Fred Lynn, Carlton Fisk and a couple of throw in's fell through. Then he tried selling Vida Blue to the Yankees for 1.5 million. Again this was after a potential deal of Blue to New York for Thurman Munson and either Roy White or Elliott Maddox fell apart. He talked with the Rangers about selling Don Baylor, he talked with Milwaukee about a Joe Rudi for Darrell Porter deal and he tried to sell off Sal Bando by himself (The White Sox were among those interested.) Major League Baseball commissioner Bowie Kuhn decided to invoke the rarely used "best interests of baseball" clause in order to void Finley's sales. Finley, in turn, hired famed sports attorney Neil Papiano and proceeded to file a $10 million restraint-of-trade lawsuit against Kuhn and Major League Baseball. Papiano and Finley lost the case. The court ruled that the commissioner had the authority to determine what is in the best interest of baseball. This lawsuit is widely recognized as one of the most famous, influential and precedent-setting sports-related cases in the history of American jurisprudence. Mark
  11. QUOTE (oldsox @ Apr 20, 2017 -> 06:52 PM) None of those guys are big leaguers. Makes no difference which one plays. Maybe when Tilson gets back it will be a little bit better. If Tilson ever comes back healthy for longer then a few days. We'll see. Mark
  12. QUOTE (hi8is @ Apr 18, 2017 -> 07:29 PM) So how long does Avi have to mash until we stop doubting? 6 years...LOL. Mark
  13. This team reminds me of some of the Sox teams from the 50's and 60's in this respect. Offense is terrible (19 runs in last seven games, 10 in a single game during that stretch) but because of their pitching they are winning most of the 2-1 and 3-1 games to this point. And you trade Shields and Avi as soon as possible, their value will never be higher if they keep this mirage up. Mark
  14. I suspect the trade talk has started to make an impact. The guy is human...how could it not? Plus as per usual, they can't score runs for him. That may finally be bothering him more than the trade talk. Mark
  15. Holland may actually bring back something decent at the trade deadline...we'll see. Mark
  16. Given the over riding factor of the Sox rebuilding and are going to lose a ton of games, just an observation or two: So far Sox pitching has been pretty good, if these guys keep it up maybe they can get something for some of them in July. As far as the Sox offense and defense...well Sox pitching has been pretty good!!!!! LOL. Mark
  17. QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Apr 9, 2017 -> 05:13 PM) Dude it's been 5 games. I love how Renteria has managed the games so far (except not pinch hitting for May in the 7th, tho I understood the move). Let's see how this sh** plays out for a bit longer before we state this is the "same crap for years" or "new faces same results". Those comments would accurately describe your posts, however. Dude (OK)...we KNOW how this s*** is going to play out, that's the entire purpose of a rebuild correct? And I'm fine with that...I don't care if they lose 95 games (and the odds are they will) just play the damn game correctly...set the tone for the future, let the "kids" know stupid baseball won't be tolerated (looking at you Avi LOL). You missed that point in your diatribe it seems. Mark
  18. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Apr 9, 2017 -> 05:01 PM) Lol, knew game thread comments would be a fun read. I think this rebuild is going to test some Sox fan's fandom. Just an opinion on this. I'm all for the rebuild however the culture of losing that has established itself with this franchise also needs to be dramatically altered. That means you can't wait for the "kids" to come up and suddenly start stressing fundamentals, situational hitting, good base running and defense. IT STARTS NOW...TODAY. The current players on the big league roster need to be held accountable by Renteria. That means if you can't make contact with a man on 3rd and less than two out, if you make an out at 3rd on the bases with less than two out, if you can't get down a bunt or play your position you are held accountable. What does that mean? Benching, being waived or getting sent down...if the kid coming up is worse...who cares? Rebuilding right? But it's time the Sox established certain expectations regardless of who is on the roster. We've seen this same crap for years now going back to the last few seasons of Ozzie. And now that I think about it, I recall Jerry Manuel (aka Manager Gandhi) saying that in "today's" baseball defense wasn'tmportant. Right..... Mark
  19. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Apr 9, 2017 -> 02:55 PM) One out bases loaded and we always seem to K That's the "White Sox way..." Terrible situational hitting & fundamentals. Managers change, players change...results don't. And speaking of not changing how about that run support for Q?????????????????????????? Incredible that he hasn't lost his mind by now. Mark
  20. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Apr 8, 2017 -> 04:35 PM) So the Sox should call a player up that they don't know about to replace Avi? In the sense that since this is a tank / rebuilding year...yes. Let them bring a kid up to see how he'll do. You already know what Garcia's going to give you. Mark
  21. QUOTE (greg775 @ Apr 8, 2017 -> 05:55 PM) Who cares? Three mill a year ... he's already earned that even if he goes 0-fer the rest of the year. I assume you are being sarcastic because if you aren't....well that would give one pause for thought. Even a blind squirrel finds an acorn now and again. Avi will get hot offensively for a week or two and then...it's look out below. Inconsistent offense, brutal defense, a bad baseball IQ...that doesn't bode well. Let's put it this way, would another team be interested in him if the Sox put him up for trade? (silence) There you go. Mark
  22. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Apr 8, 2017 -> 03:34 PM) Like who? Unless you want to try Davidson out there...Avi is fine on this rebuilding team. Is what it is. As I wrote, "when it's (the season) is over." The Sox need to admit they were wrong on it and cut their losses. He's going to be 26, he's had multiple chances, he's not going to get any better. I'm sure there is at least one kid in the minor league system that the organization doesn't know a lot about, who should get a shot. With Garcia it's "what you see is what you get." Mark
  23. QUOTE (PolishPrince34 @ Dec 2, 2016 -> 10:18 PM) Garcia doesn't bring one positive tool to the team. The only positive thing I keep on hearing from a small minority is he's 25 years old. Everyone who has eyes that work can tell you Garcia deficits make him a liability to a team. Disappointed our front office couldn't figure it out. Make an eye appointment!!! Agree. He's brutal in the field and his baseball intelligence is very low. He'll get hot for a week or two offensively but then slump right back down. Granted its not a big deal this year with rebuilding but he needs to be let go when its over. Let a kid play who may have a future. Mark
  24. "Raburn has enjoyed success against his new organization, slugging 20 of his 91 career home runs against the White Sox. He has also hit .296 with 82 RBIs and owns a .518 slugging percentage in 122 games against Chicago." According to Elias, Rayburn has the highest percentage of career RBI's vs. one team in MLB history. That's impressive (and also makes you wonder why Cooper didn't order his pitchers to try something different against him. If he did...it sure as hell didn't work.) Mark
