  1. QUOTE (ptatc @ May 4, 2017 -> 09:25 PM) This from the only person who signs his name to each post. Ironic PTATC: Not trying to be arrogant. At least I try to "talk" conversationally with other posters and not "down" to them or try to show how clever I am with one-liners that are snarky in nature and demeaning. (Not saying you do by the way). I put my name on posts because the other sites I participate in that's the way it's done. Nothing more, nothing less. I didn't realize that doing so here makes you "arrogant." But that's fine...from now on I won't use my name anymore. Hope that makes you happy.
  2. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 4, 2017 -> 07:07 PM) Oh the entitlement. Oh the arrogance. Mark
  3. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 4, 2017 -> 03:41 PM) Both Abreu and Avi had "minor" injuries and were back in the course of a day or two. You know very well I'm talking about guys on the DL. Go back and read his statements on them. Look at his comments on Shields for example. And why the silence on the other relief pitchers, one of whom, Putnam was due off the DL today, and Petricka who has been on there now for five weeks.
  4. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ May 4, 2017 -> 11:22 AM) Apparently this injury doesn't seem to be overly serious and they hope he's back within 2 weeks or so. Perhaps it was more cautionary than anything else. Hahn has been saying everything is "minor" all year...seen any of the injured guys back yet? No disrespect, I'll believe it when I see it. Mark
  5. QUOTE (harkness @ May 4, 2017 -> 10:45 AM) Wow the injuries to the bullpen the last couple years.... The injuries to the TEAM the last couple of years. Mark
  6. QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ May 4, 2017 -> 10:27 AM) You sure you cannot rehab while on the DL? I think that just means he can't come back to the ML before June 1, but pretty sure he can pitch in AAA. Also...you'll notice DL stints are way up across the league. The 10 day DL allows teams much more flexibility. Obviously the bullpen has taken a bit of a hit so far this year, but its not like this is some crazy phenomenon only occurring on the SOx. You're right I think I worded that wrong. He can rehab and work but he won't be pitching in a big league game before June 1. Regarding injuries, I checked last night and there is one team that does not have anyone on the DL right now...and...naturally...that's the Cubs. The difference is the White Sox need guys healthy so they can get something for them, this is critical towards the rebuild. And in typical Sox luck, they get blasted by injuries. Mark
  7. Considering everybody and his brother is either on the DL or hurt, I'll take a split over a putrid Royals team on the road. Mark
  8. Will the last healthy White Sox player please turn off the clubhouse lights before leaving to go on the DL? 7th Sox player (6th pitcher) currently on the DL. It's 2000-2001 all over again. So much for these guys staying healthy so they can be traded for something. Hahn today said it's "minor" and he should be pitching again "in a few weeks." Where have we heard THAT before this year? LOL. Rodon was moved to the 60 day DL because the report said the Sox feel it'll be at least June 1 before he can do a rehab assignment. Mark
  9. QUOTE (steveno89 @ May 3, 2017 -> 12:00 PM) Not good news on Shields or Rodon really The benefit of being in rebuilding mode is that there is not much reason to hurry these players back to playing though Well in the cases of Shields, Putnam and Petricka if they don't pitch the Sox won't get anything for them in trade. I suspect all of those guys could bring back an A ball player in a deal which is better than nothing. Also I saw this post elsewhere which to me, brings up some very valid points: "The Sox have a right to be secretive, and I have a right to react accordingly to their secrecy. Therefore, I'm assuming we won't see Rodon at all this year. The Sox have developed a habit of saying "oh, it won't be long," and then it turns out to be long. Happened with Jackson and Lawrie last year. It's happened with Tilson and Rodon this year, and it's possible Shields might be headed in that direction, as well. I'm just going to assume from now on that the Sox are full of ****, and that every injury is more serious than they are saying." This is reminding me of 2000-2001 when Sox pitchers were going down like fly's, there were charges of misdiagnosis's and Kenny had to hold a press conference angrily (is Kenny any other way?) defending the team doctors. Mark
  10. News isn't great for Shields, so much for that "quick" recovery and Rodon's is becoming more and more head scratching every day: http://m.whitesox.mlb.com/news/artic...picId=27118146 Mark
  11. Former Sox outfielder Sam Mele died today at 95. He played with the club in 1952 and 1953. Was acquired early in the 52' season for Jim Busby, one of the original "Go-Go Boys" and a fleet center fielder. In two years he had 26 home runs, 141 RBI's, 10 triples and 44 doubles. But this was his main claim to fame with the club: June 10, 1952- In a game at Philadelphia, Sox outfielder Sam Mele set the franchise record with six RBI's in one inning. In the fourth inning of the game Mele hit a three run homer, then later on drove in three more runs with a triple. It was part of a 12 run explosion as the Sox won, 15-4. Mark
  12. QUOTE (harkness @ May 1, 2017 -> 08:15 PM) I just can't see Covey having any real future.... mediocre stuff with bad control.. doesn't equate. Well said. Mark
  13. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Apr 30, 2017 -> 09:51 AM) To dance the fine line of rebuilding, while giving this team a chance to contend (and what appears to be a really weak AL Central is what gives me the most hope), I suggest the following: 1)Move Robertson ASAP. Yes, the other guys could fall apart. But if they do, this team won't contend with our without Robertson. 2) Move one of the starters - either Gonzalez, or Holland. Rodon replaces 3)Move Frazier if he gets it together. 4)Hold Q until offseason. He is a premium off-season trade piece, due to the high value of his contract. 5)Send May back to the minors. Bring up W Garcia who hit well in his cup of coffee and his hitting well in AAA. Send Asche as well and bring up Delmonico or the like. 6)Keep playing the bench. It is still audition time. Yolmer may be needed as the utility player. Other than Robertson, the Sox have another month until the suggestions are really tradeable, and it may be moot by then. Hope not, though. Seems pretty solid to me save for Rodon. Who knows what his injury situation really is and when he may return. Mark
  14. MLB Trade rumors is reporting Washington has already contacted the Royals to see if any of their outfielders may be available (like Cain) Mark
  15. QUOTE (greg775 @ Apr 29, 2017 -> 09:51 PM) Nobody cares about the locker room. Nobody cares about being in first place. If the Sox are 1-2 out near the trading deadline, people will be dying to trade all the usual suspects for prospects. It's the rebuild that the vocal fans care about, not some quest for a weak division title. It's just the way it is. The new wave statniks love this rebuild and that's that. The Sox will trade off everybody they can even if they happened to be 2-3 games in first near the deadline. Rebuilding is IN right now. Personally I want to win and scrap the alleged rebuild. The reality is the Royals blow chunks, the Tigers suck, the Twins suck and Cleveland is great. Personally... I want to win MULTIPLE YEARS IN A ROW (Something the Sox have never done in franchise history as in actually making the playoffs in consecutive years). Personally... I don't want to see the Sox go through a 10 year stretch like they did from 2006-2016. Three winning seasons in 10 years, no consecutive winning seasons since 2003-2006, One playoff appearance since 2005. Personally... I saw enough that the system of having several very good players and the bulk of the roster made up of basically trash was NOT working. Since ownership isn't going to change and the front office isn't, so long as ownership stays the same and since it's idiotic to keep trying the same failed approach time after time and expect anything different and since ownership isn't going to spend 150 million for the top free agent talent AND to provide good depth...this is the best that could be done under those limitations. But that's just my personal opinion. LOL. Mark
  16. Page 21 in this week's issue called, "The Case for the White Sox" by Jeremy Fuchs. It ends, "But there is plenty of reason to hope. And in a city that knows how to be patient with its baseball teams, a little more waiting could result in the South Side team soon having a party of its own..." Let the rebuild continue...slow and steady. Mark
  17. Nice rebound today after the blown save. Also as an aside has anybody noticed the start that Alex Avila has gotten off to? Where was this guy the two years with the Sox???? Mark
  18. QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ Apr 29, 2017 -> 08:37 AM) I thought FIRST PLACE teams were buyers at the trade deadline, not sellers!! They won't be in first place come the trade deadline so that won't be an issue. Stay the course...rebuild. Mark
  19. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Apr 28, 2017 -> 09:36 PM) You got to love it. However the bullpen will need reinforcements soon if Covey and Pelfrey can't go 5 innings and Petricka and Putnam are out much longer. It might be sustainable under different circumstances but overwork will lead to fatigue and fatigue will lead to meltdowns. Bullpen has been lights out, will make them even more valuable as trade pieces later on. Whatever happens, stay the course...rebuild! Regarding Petricka and Putnam, I thought I read a few days ago (Phil Rogers maybe?) that Petricka has torn that lat muscle not pulled it. If that's true, he's not coming back for a long time. Putnam ? Who knows considering it's his elbow. And I'd be surprised if Rodon was back before June. Mark
  20. When he consistently throws strikes he's very good...consistently is the key word here. Like with Avi let's wait and see. Mark
  21. Nice to see them score some runs for Q (about time don't ya' think???????) Have no idea how they are winning games with this motley bunch of players but for now anyway it is nice to see. Mark
  22. QUOTE (raBBit @ Apr 25, 2017 -> 07:46 PM) Beck has been a very boring and uninspiring pitcher but he's looked a bit different this year. Velo is up and slider is sharper. I wouldn't hitch my wagon to him having success but I like his changes this time around more than I've liked any other. I assume this was written BEFORE the 9th inning tonight? Mark
  23. Can't count on a guy who can't stay healthy. Four Sox pitchers now on the DL. Mark
