This thread doesn't include the two called third strikes tonight: When it comes to things like this, I generally think that it all evens out, as the player also gets lucky with calls the other way around. But that hasn't been the case with Moncada, He has legitimately been screwed over by called third strikes 15-25 times this year, oftentimes on pitches not even close to the zone. Why does Renteria not complain, and why have the Sox seemingly not talked to MLB about this?

This may sound ridiculous but you could honestly argue that 15% or so of Moncada's strikeouts were due to horrible calls

I know someone said the other day how DSL stats are so weird since literally all we can do is look at the box scores. I wonder if bad umpiring is also a factor in pitchers sometimes having crazy walk totals down there.

It's nice to be able to watch these games as opposed to just looking at the box score. He's allowed like, 5 hits and 1 walk, but it's all weak contact, the walk was on the umpire, and 2 of the hits should have been easy outs.

I don't know where you're getting that. Not talking about his minor league stats. He's just a guy who swings early and often. If he tweaks his approach, that's great, but judging by his interviews, he doesn't plan on it

Haha, not too hard when you strike out like 4 times a year! It's more his walk rate that I'm getting at. He's a guy who, with a full season of PAs, projects between 35-45 walks or so, once you factor in higher quality pitching that he's facing. That's not bad at all but when you're not hitting for any power whatsoever, it puts a LOT of pressure on your hit tool. Luckily, his hit tool is fantastic.

I think he's frustrated. He should be out of this inning but his defense failed him on a grounder and the umpire made some questionable calls on the walk. No excuse for his body language and something he should work on, but there's a reason at least
