  1. I love the amount of extrapolation in this thread... Multiplying college baseball numbers to a 700 PA sample for an MLB season isn't even close to being predictive, of anything. Madrigal is going to strike out more than 25 times per season and he'll also hit more than 10 home runs per season.
  2. Moncada is taking Odorizzi deep on the first pitch of the game

They absolutely should be, all of them. If we don't see a mass wave of promotions by the end of the month I'm gonna be pretty upset. That would be around the point where you're actively hurting the development of those guys, plus Eloy, by not letting them face competition that's more at their level
  4. For what it's worth, I asked Keith Law and he said neither UZR nor DRS are reliable for first basemen.

He had a 1.027 OPS. His stats don't matter at all in the DSL but I would absolutely call that setting the world on fire. He was a beast
  6. I highly recommend Six Degrees by Mark Lynas. Troubling but informative read.
  7. Star Wars fans have been harassing the actress who played Rose online and it got pretty bad
  8. First base is just such a weird position to try to quantify defensively. I like UZR in general but I tend to apply it to just outfielders and non-1B infielders, where there are far more opportunities for plays to be made and perhaps more precise data on how often a given batted ball is converted into an out, since a lot of 1B defense involves being on the receiving end of a play by another infielder. I honestly can't answer your question because I don't know how I would judge a first baseman's defense using a sabermetric. Maybe DRS, if I had to pick one (where Abreu is at -4, which seems accurate). Honestly, and this is coming from a sabes guy, I would use the eye test for 1B defense. In my opinion, Abreu is a below average 1B defender but putting him out there isn't gonna severely hurt your team, like putting Palka out in RF would. I do think that he is a lot better than people think when it comes to scooping/picking bad throws. But he's certainly nowhere near as good as Freeman, Belt, Rizzo, etc. defensively. That's something that fangraphs would also agree with.
  9. Trayce getting on base is always a surprise
  10. UZR for a first baseman isn’t very important IMO
  11. It’s probably 3-4 times per week, if you’re not being dramatic/exaggerating
  12. Why even activate Davidson if you’re just gonna let trayce bat over him in the 9th
  13. And every time he makes a nice pick or scoop, you guys are silent. he’s bad defensively but the scoops are what he’s actually good at
  14. Relievers are so volatile between seasons, it always amazes me
  15. Lopez has been the new Quintana this year. A testament to the irrelevance of the win stat
  16. He’s actually (usually) solid on those scoops and picks, which I know aren’t much of a factor in those 1B grades, so I was surprised by that play
  17. Lol, luckiest inning ever but I'll take it. Great outing
  18. Really risky having Lopez out there right now. That's back to back "just missed" balls
  19. It'll be Santiago for Rodon, probably, and then Giolito for Kopech. Maybe Covey instead if he falls back to Earth by the time they deem Kopech ready
  20. That's the right call
  21. Abreu is still chasing the franchise single season doubles record
  22. Moncada with the SB, he and Anderson are really a revelation on the basepaths
