Might as well give Rondon a game anyway. I feel like he never plays.

Going from a complete garbage framer to a below average framer is honestly pretty nice

Santiago is so frustrating to watch as a starter. I'd rather have Giolito out there, at least he gets through innings without throwing 25+ pitches

6/6 Games
Conventional wisdom would say that. But after Hahn said Eloy would be promoted "in the coming weeks", like, 4 weeks ago, I've become irrationally pessimistic about promotions

White Sox select Nick Madrigal with 4th overall pick
I love the amount of extrapolation in this thread... Multiplying college baseball numbers to a 700 PA sample for an MLB season isn't even close to being predictive, of anything. Madrigal is going to strike out more than 25 times per season and he'll also hit more than 10 home runs per season.

Moncada is taking Odorizzi deep on the first pitch of the game

They absolutely should be, all of them. If we don't see a mass wave of promotions by the end of the month I'm gonna be pretty upset. That would be around the point where you're actively hurting the development of those guys, plus Eloy, by not letting them face competition that's more at their level

A fair and balanced soliloquy about Jose Abreu, by ron
For what it's worth, I asked Keith Law and he said neither UZR nor DRS are reliable for first basemen.

6/6 Games
He had a 1.027 OPS. His stats don't matter at all in the DSL but I would absolutely call that setting the world on fire. He was a beast

I highly recommend Six Degrees by Mark Lynas. Troubling but informative read.

A fair and balanced soliloquy about Jose Abreu, by ron
First base is just such a weird position to try to quantify defensively. I like UZR in general but I tend to apply it to just outfielders and non-1B infielders, where there are far more opportunities for plays to be made and perhaps more precise data on how often a given batted ball is converted into an out, since a lot of 1B defense involves being on the receiving end of a play by another infielder. I honestly can't answer your question because I don't know how I would judge a first baseman's defense using a sabermetric. Maybe DRS, if I had to pick one (where Abreu is at -4, which seems accurate). Honestly, and this is coming from a sabes guy, I would use the eye test for 1B defense. In my opinion, Abreu is a below average 1B defender but putting him out there isn't gonna severely hurt your team, like putting Palka out in RF would. I do think that he is a lot better than people think when it comes to scooping/picking bad throws. But he's certainly nowhere near as good as Freeman, Belt, Rizzo, etc. defensively. That's something that fangraphs would also agree with.

Trayce getting on base is always a surprise

UZR for a first baseman isn’t very important IMO

It’s probably 3-4 times per week, if you’re not being dramatic/exaggerating

Why even activate Davidson if you’re just gonna let trayce bat over him in the 9th

And every time he makes a nice pick or scoop, you guys are silent. he’s bad defensively but the scoops are what he’s actually good at
