  1. I guess I could've bumped this whole mess. If mods prefer that then feel free to merge them
  2. http://www.nj.com/mets/index.ssf/2016/10/y..._be_back_r.html
  3. Didn't the Giants trade him to us originally because he was like, a total jerk in the clubhouse? And then he gets here and he never talks or smiles
  4. QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Oct 5, 2016 -> 01:09 PM) Honestly, who really cares? The dude played for the Nationals and was a popular player. So he's throwing out the first pitch at a game, big deal. Drake and Adam, not just Adam
  5. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 4, 2016 -> 01:54 PM) Which is a great illustration of why the only correct option for this team is rebuilding. The FA market will not fix this mess unless we win the lottery 3-4 times and find guys who dramatically overproduce their contracts. Otherwise, we are constantly trying to patch positions with guys who are "good enough" and then trying to acquire one big name player to overcome the fact that 4-5 positions in the lineup and a large chunk of the rotation and bullpen are filled with guys who are barely good enough. That's the "Rick Hahn Special" that we saw starting with Keppinger - "This guy is better than the complete vacant gap we have here and therefore that's a major upgrade". We've seen how well this works over and over and over again over the past 4 seasons. Either the big name isn't quite as big as we thought, or the guy who was supposed to be barely good enough does slightly worse and rapidly crosses over to terrible. Or both. I agree completely. Rebuilding is the most prudent choice this offseason, but I'm sure we'll do otherwise.
  6. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 4, 2016 -> 12:08 PM) 1. He's an available warm body who can actually catch. This is an upgrade from where the White Sox currently are. 2. He has played 100+ games each of the past 4 years. This is a substantial upgrade from where Alex Avila has been the last 2 years. 3. He is generally thought as one of the better pitch framers in the game. 4. He had a really spectacular offensive season a few years ago and guys at the catcher's spot sometimes do take years to break out because of all the physical and mental demands. 5. He is at least a positive value catcher and the White Sox would need something from that position in order to compete. Pitch framing and durability is great and all, but people would grow very tired of his horrible offense here.
  7. QUOTE (zisk @ Oct 4, 2016 -> 12:09 PM) I think most agree that 2016 draft was best SOX draft in forever. What? They've been in the organization for a few months, there's no way of knowing if it's our best draft class ever.
  8. What's with the Jason Castro love? He's worse than Avila
  9. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Oct 4, 2016 -> 08:23 AM) Some are angry but I agree with Hahn that it doesn't make any sense to state a direction. I think they will shop Sale and Quintana. If they get what they are looking for, I think they move Sale and go from there. If the offers aren't there though, I could see something similar to last offseason but with better players added. I highly doubt they will be spending on a player with a QO attached though. And where do these "better players" come from? There aren't many good free agents. The few that are out there will be given ridiculously massive contracts from teams like the Red Sox, Dodgers, etc.
  10. QUOTE (fathom @ Oct 3, 2016 -> 07:08 PM) Why would anyone want Austin Jackson back? He was pretty awful here and showed a huge decline in power. Looks to me like his days of being an everyday starter are over. Awful? He played in 54 games and was on the upswing before the injury. If you took Abreu's first 54 games, you could say he's awful too.
  11. QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ Oct 3, 2016 -> 07:18 PM) I found this comment from Rick interesting when reading the recap story of the press conference today: "You saw this last offseason -- at the end -- we made a couple of smaller moves as a means of trying to plug our holes, some of which panned out better than others," Hahn said. "If we were a little more aggressive, perhaps, from a standpoint of a full measure as opposed to arguably a half-measure in a certain scenario, then conceivably, the results would have been different." Mark Hahn's lawyer-ish, beating-around-the-bush method of talking is really unnecessary at times
  12. QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ Oct 3, 2016 -> 12:18 PM) If you're not batting Gallo in the middle of your order, you're making a mistake. Gallo is awful
  13. QUOTE (shipps @ Oct 3, 2016 -> 11:31 AM) I have no idea what the FO plans are and never really have because they make s*** up as they go. 3 year plan!!!!!!!!111!!!1
  14. I get the vibe from Hahn that we're selling but all those reports that came out were saying we're looking to make a big free agency splash, so now I'm just confused.
  15. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 3, 2016 -> 09:31 AM) I'd love to see one of Hahn or KW gone, preferably KW, just so things can be simple enough to allow the team to have a clear direction. That said, not to be picky, but I really had no issue with the Rollins signing. Anderson was definitely not ready yet, and no one can pretend they knew Saladino would be as good as he's been. It was a signing that made sense at the time, and wasn't a big deal. It just seemed to me as another "hey, we're trying to contend, but let's start this declining veteran at shortstop!" type of move. And you can look back at my posts, I was constantly advocating for starting Saladino. Sure, I didn't think he'd be this good of a hitter, but for defensive purposes alone, it could have worked out.
  16. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Sep 29, 2016 -> 01:07 PM) I love my PS4 so much. Also, Madden is just on an amazing level this year. I cannot express how much better it is. I purchased Madden 17, NHL 17, and NBA 2K17 on their release dates. To this date, I'd guess I've played NHL 5-7 times, 2K 10-12 times, and Madden at least 40 times. It's incredible, blew away all of my expectations.
  17. I used to be a huge pro-Hahn guy, but the Rollins/Latos/Navarro signings as starters on a "contender" were pretty horrible. Part of me thinks/hopes that KW was behind those moves.
  18. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Mar 26, 2016 -> 11:42 AM) [/b]Dealers choice--any other random 2016 Sox predictions other than final record Todd Frazier hits .225 with 35 home runs pretty close
  19. I wonder how his in-game management differs from Ventura's. You know, like calling/not calling for bunts, arguing/not arguing calls, etc.
  20. https://twitter.com/CSNHayes/status/782334514093842433 Could it be the end of Robin...?
  21. QUOTE (TheFutureIsNear @ Oct 1, 2016 -> 04:17 PM) Lol what are you talking about? How would adding Shaw and Saunders to the offense possibly make the team worse than it is now? Which isn't close to the worst team. Losing Q hurts a little but additions of Rodriguez and Hellickson to Sale, Rodin and Gonzalez make it a more well rounded rotation than we had for most of this year. Shaw and Saunders simply aren't good. Shaw strikes out far too much. The only attractive number of his is that RBI total, which is solely a result of hitting in the Boston lineup. If we're gonna buy, let's buy (the very few assets available). If we're gonna sell, let's sell. I've had enough of the halfhearted buying.
  22. Seems like this is the dream plan of Reinsdorf- don't buy, don't sell, but just half-ass it like this.
  23. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Mar 9, 2016 -> 05:52 PM) 82-80, 4th in the division. eh, not the worst guess in the world.
