QUOTE (He Gawn @ Sep 5, 2016 -> 10:27 PM) Statistics disagree. To be fair, there are many 2016 statistics that you can use to argue either side

Around the trade deadline, it seemed like we were gonna sell. But now, with these "JR wants to win NOW!!" stories, I don't know what we're going to do. I think selling is more prudent, especially with the bleak FA market. I also envision some sort of weird buy/sell thing where we trade one of Sale/Quintana and get some package like Bradley/Benintendi/Kopech and try to win now, but then we'd just have a bad rotation. Anyway, here's what I want to happen: Chicago trades Sale, Robertson to Boston for Moncada, Benintendi, Kopech, Groome Chicago trades Quintana to Los Angeles (NL) for Urias, De Leon, Verdugo Chicago trades Cabrera, one of Abreu/Frazier (as a 1B) to Texas for Guzman, Taveras Here's what I think (and fear) will happen: Either: A: Nothing or: B: Chicago signs Edwin Encarnacion to 4-year, $110 million contract Chicago signs Kenley Jansen to 4-year, $52 million contract Chicago thinks they're contenders but finishes with anywhere between 75-85 wins

Jon Heyman: Sox have little interest in moving Sale or Quintana

Yay, more half-ass buying! -
QUOTE (shysocks @ Aug 31, 2016 -> 03:56 PM) Sox are 6th in the AL for starters' ERA. You have James Shields to thank. http://www.fangraphs.com/leaders.aspx?pos=...0&sort=15,a S/O Mat Latos as well

QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Aug 29, 2016 -> 09:28 PM) Didn't Salty hit a key HR late some other game against the Sox earlier this year ? Yeah, one of three solo homers hit in one of the Robertson crushing blown saves -

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Aug 29, 2016 -> 08:42 PM) Sox need to trade Lawrie in the offseason and make Saladino the everyday 2B. Doesn't he lose some of his defensive advantages when you remove him from SS/3B? -

Saladino -
August numbers: 30.2 IP (5 GS) 24 H 7 BB 26 K 1.01 WHIP 1.47 ERA I also like that he's getting more speed, hitting 97-99 now when he needs to (Sale-esque with a bit more velocity) but also being able to fool hitters with his slider and change-up. A Sale/Quintana trade would definitely be more manageable if Rodon can be a true #1/#2 pitcher, which he definitely has the potential to be.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 28, 2016 -> 01:07 PM) I'll back Caulfield on this one. Jones is one of our best relievers but he's far from reliable. I can't see him consistently nailing down saves with his funky delivery. What does a funky delivery have to do with saves? Chris Sale had no trouble notching saves before his days of being a starter...

Sox are looking at catchers in Yankees/Red Sox farm systems

QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Aug 28, 2016 -> 11:48 AM) Bumping because Gary Sanchez was on the Sox radar but Yanks at the time were asking too much for him. Also funny that with Sanchez and Vasquez to talk about Soxtalkers picked the wonderful pitch framer to marvel over. When will you all learn pitch framing is a bull s*** fad that means very little. Umps have wised up to it and its still umpiring strengths and weaknesses that lead to most blown balls and strikes calls. Apparently pitch framing is more fascinating than hitting bombs. I'm not gonna argue, Sanchez > Vasquez, but have you watched a Dioner Navarro-caught game for us this season? Also, Sanchez's home run streak is unsustainable. This is a guy who can hit you 15-20 homers a season, not 75 (approximately his current pace). Pitchers will adjust to him. It's not like he was some big time power hitter in the minors. -
Melky & Robertson make MLBTR list of 20 who could be traded...

QUOTE (NCsoxfan @ Aug 27, 2016 -> 05:57 PM) Wait, there's a return we need for those guys? We're not talking about Q or Sale here. I can't imagine there'd be a substantial return deserved for either one. I'm sure you could get a decent prospect for Melky -
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 27, 2016 -> 04:41 PM) The true irony is that your reactions in this thread is literally demanding a safe space for yourselves. How so? A "safe space" is an enclosed area where certain lines of thinking cannot be expressed. Where did anyone deny expression of other ideas in here?

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 27, 2016 -> 02:19 PM) Blown saves and save percentage for a set up guy is probably the most ridiculous stat to ever look at and come to a conclusion. Honestly... why people cite this stat for non-closers is ridiculous

Bernstein: Sources say White Sox might be for sale

QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Aug 12, 2016 -> 06:13 PM) When I first saw this, I immediately thought of Berlin, but I now have very reliable information that tells me Andrew Berlin will not be the buyer. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 26, 2016 -> 05:23 AM) As a poster stated earlier, cross Andrew Berlin off the list. Converting his kids, from Sox fans to Cubs fans? That should bring DCFS into the picture. http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseb...824-column.html BOOM -
QUOTE (ron883 @ Aug 26, 2016 -> 07:50 AM) That place truly is where fun goes to die. I highly advise going elsewhere if you want a fun college experience. I'm aware of how tough it is there. But if I get in, I may be willing to try
-
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 26, 2016 -> 08:03 AM) So am I. The college experience isn't just going to classes, it's supposed to be students' first time "on their own", learning to deal with life. The whole trend towards safe spaces and assorted other sterilizing B.S. is stupid and at odds with the greater purpose of education. This.
-
Also, if you can't have a mature discussion about an issue without a disagreement leading to crying and requesting a safe space, you probably don't belong in college anyway.
