  1. So Johnson and Montas will work out of the bullpen, right?
  2. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Sep 1, 2015 -> 12:50 PM) It was April. It was on the Score and the post was liked 25,000 times. Got some decent ad revenue out of that. I am glad I focused my time on things other than that stupid website and OOTP and began to kick ass in my career. Thanks a lot, you got my hopes up so much...
  3. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Sep 1, 2015 -> 08:43 AM) That Joe Maddon is a genius. Had them wear pajamas on their flight home. Who, other than a genius thinks of these things? I am really surprised they didn't win last night. It must have been the hangover from winning the WS the night before. Kaplan on his show yesterday, "If I told you the Cubs would be 2-4 on this past road trip, would you take it" Every panelist's answer..........yes. The Cubs can do no wrong in Chicago. A WC team 3rd in their division, and this panel was comparing them to the 2004 Red Sox. This disappointment is going to be tremendous. I look forward to it. "Well at least we made the playoffs!" Doesn't matter when neither of us won the WS
  4. A writer for a small website speculated that the Bulls should trade for Rudy Gay. That led to all these Facebook/Twitter posts reading "BREAKING: Bulls pursuing trade for Rudy Gay." My point is, if you see anything like that, don't believe it; it's all speculation. That being said, Gibson and McDermott for Gay- who says no?
  5. QUOTE (LDF @ Sep 1, 2015 -> 08:36 AM) ref first bold, i agree, the sox can go in the red and acquire the players needed to help build the core. the core that will perform on the field. show the fans that this team is serious and the fans will come out. a little in the red is not bad, when building for the future. then, when the sox have success on the fields, the following yr the fans will be coming out. ..... book it. the stipulation the specific point is if the sox show that they have competent manager and FO personnel running the ship. second bold. the sox i agree and i will even go further by stating that the sox needs to acquire one more marque player. Sale is a one in 5 start player and then it is Jose A..... the sox needs another star potential player to help bring out the fans. they need to feel as they are getting their money worth. ref first bold, i agree, if they, the sox goes in the red this yr, to est a core of good players and good results on the field, the second yr the fans will come out, the commercial sponsor will jump on the bandwagon, everything will be growth. but the stipulations or specific point is, if the manger and the FO appear to show they know what they are doing and are competent. second bold, they, the team on the field needs another marque player to help bring in fans.... sale once in every 5 starts, and the I have a feeling their idea of a star player to bring fans to the games is Yasiel Puig, and if it is, I sure hope the asking price is too high (for the team's sake, not the attendance).
  6. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Sep 1, 2015 -> 08:22 AM) From Zeus to Hercules. I suppose you could call it a slump since he, statistically, is having a worse season than 2014, but he is still having a very strong season
  7. QUOTE (AustinIllini @ Sep 1, 2015 -> 08:18 AM) I always assumed Jose Abreu the user was Jose Abreu the player. I don't think Abreu has enough time to be posting on message boards. Plus, he doesn't know much english
  8. QUOTE (AustinIllini @ Sep 1, 2015 -> 08:13 AM) People look at his batting average, but fail to recognize he's a plus fielder, baserunner, and hitter. I'm pretty sure he has completely lived up to the hype. I wouldn't call him a plus fielder. And I think it's his strikeouts that turn people off more than his average.
  9. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Sep 1, 2015 -> 08:15 AM) The hype was near Ruthian. Despite that, he's been great. We'll see if he gets hit by a sophomore slump like Abreu. I don't know what sophomore slump you're referring to.
  10. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Aug 31, 2015 -> 06:47 PM) I absolutely agree about Heyward and Upton but there are other free agents that could help too. The Sox can look at trade possibilities too and not trades that empty the farm either. An exchange of bad contracts (Danks, LaRoche) is certainly a possibility and Hahn has mentioned that a few times throughout the season. Maybe there's a team or two willing to take on one year of Danks or LaRoche since the risk is only for one season. I'm not counting on it but crazier things have happened. Since none of us work for the FO we don't know anything about the Sox budgets or their plans this off season so I will not rule anything out. Many on this board did not think the Sox would acquire the players they did last winter and yet they did. Things did not go according to plan this year but that doesn't mean the Sox will stop trying. Way to early to write off the off season on the last day of August. That's true. I'm not writing off the offseason, just was stating that I don't think it will be as great as everyone expects.
  11. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Aug 31, 2015 -> 06:07 PM) We'll free up nearly $10M by getting rid of Bonifacio, Beckham, & the ghost of Jeff Keppinger. Throw in Shark & Alexei and we could be looking at a good $30M in savings. Obviously there will be raises that offsets a portion of this money, but we should be able to add some pieces in free agency this offseason. Who says we're not re-signing Beckham?
  12. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Aug 31, 2015 -> 05:43 PM) Waving goodbye to Samardzija saves 9.8M right of the bat. Looking at the contracts, there is potential for the Sox to save a few bucks here and there which can add up. I agree with LDF that this off season will be a very interesting one. The Sox will have some room to work with. http://www.baseballprospectus.com/compensa...cago-white-sox/ Ok, let's say we do have a lot of money to play with (which we won't, thanks to Balta for explaining)... it's not like there are any lucrative free agents on the market for us. Heyward and Upton are overrated and will be extremely overpaid by a big market team IMO
  13. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 31, 2015 -> 05:32 PM) Well he has always been my second most hated player in baseball behind Samardzija why
  14. They shouldn't have said "game he played in", they should have simply said "his game". I suppose it is a little less significant than I originally thought, but it's still something.
  15. QUOTE (LDF @ Aug 31, 2015 -> 02:40 PM) well at least the sox may had some iron in the fire. as i said, i really believe this is going to be a fun off season. I don't get why you, and other posters here, think that. It's not like we have that much money to spend, and the FA market (outside of starting pitching, which we don't really need) is unattractive.
  16. QUOTE (WhiteSoxLifer @ Aug 31, 2015 -> 03:32 PM) I thought Hahn said the sox were going to make a waiver trade or 2. Still got till eastern time midnight to maybe dump someone lol He didn't say that. That was just a SoxTalk poster who misinterpreted an interview.
  17. QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Aug 31, 2015 -> 08:44 AM) Maybe but the Yankees were pretty active in trying to add a reliever add the non-waiver deadline and apparently made a decent offer for Kimbrel. They wanted to add another really good reliever to Betances and Miller to try to make games in the playoffs 6 innings since their rotation is nothing special. Good point. They want a 3-headed monster like Kansas City's.
  18. QUOTE (oldsox @ Aug 31, 2015 -> 08:36 AM) What is RV's current contract status? At the beginning of the 2014 season, we agreed to a "multi-year extension" with him, without actual terms of the contract being announced. From what I understand, managerial contracts don't really matter.
  19. QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Aug 31, 2015 -> 02:52 AM) They can't possibly return Robin. I love my Sox but I won't watch next season. Prepare to not watch next season them. They've given every indication that he'll be back next year.
