  1. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Sep 2, 2015 -> 08:37 AM) Quintana is not an ace. I love him. He's a #2 though. But he's cheap and really good and they won't trade him unless they get a lot in return. IMO, the starting pitchers who are top-30 in fWAR should all be considered "aces" because, if they were all spread out on different teams, they would be the best starter on their team.
  2. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Sep 2, 2015 -> 07:40 AM) There are three pieces to Sale's value: his quality as a pitcher, his cheap contract in terms of dollars, and the number of years. The problem with dealing with the Dodgers or Red Sox is that the cheap contract doesn't mean that much to them. To get full value you would have to look at teams for him that would mean a lot such as the Astros, Royals, or pirates, or even the Cardinals. I don't know that those systems are strong enough. The The Dodgers are Red Sox may be willing to take contracts as part of the value but I don't think that really Sox much and hopefully that's not what the Sox would be looking for. As for Quintana, I'm just not sure how big that haul would be The return for Quintana should be similar to the return for Sale. They're both aces. Sale's return should only be slightly better.
  3. QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 1, 2015 -> 10:12 PM) Our good friend Strop acting like a total POS once again You are what you eat!
  4. QUOTE (flavum @ Sep 1, 2015 -> 09:47 PM) 12-3 Probably will cost the Sox a few draft slots. Damn you, lights-out bullpen and clutch hitting
  5. QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 1, 2015 -> 09:37 PM) He's now up to 6th in fWAR in the National League. I think they're talking about Abreu
  6. QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 1, 2015 -> 09:24 PM) I think throwing too hard also led to him overthrowing his change-up. He threw one to Suzuki that was 90mph I feel like he often throws 89-90 MPH change-ups, no?
  7. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 1, 2015 -> 09:20 PM) "We've been extremely open minded. Everything is on the table and we're looking at everything." (Makes no moves at trade deadline or even on waiver wire). (We're looking at everything. We were given several trade offers, but don't worry- we glanced at them.)
  8. I guess I'll take his ERA only going up 10 points against his kryptonite. The 10 strikeouts helps him out on the road to 300.
  9. QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Sep 1, 2015 -> 08:55 PM) ph shuck for avi?
  10. QUOTE (beautox @ Sep 1, 2015 -> 08:51 PM) The Red sox have the best system in baseball right now followed by the dodgers then the rockies, the cubs have graduated a ton of talent. I think both the dodgers and the red sox make a ton of sense. The Red Sox have one of the most overrated systems in baseball, IMO. Any package for Sale would have to start with Bogaerts, and I doubt Boston would give him up.
  11. Jose Abreu replied to LDF's topic in SLaM
QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Sep 1, 2015 -> 01:21 AM) New Macklemore song is great. The video is even better. Yeah, no. I'm assuming you mean downtown, which, to me, is your average annoying pop song.
  12. QUOTE (beautox @ Sep 1, 2015 -> 08:28 PM) Chris Sale could bring back a franchise altering haul, and between boston with dombrowski at the head they might be willing to sake f*** the rebuild and lets reload. Too bad Boston doesn't have enough to trade for Sale. Only the Cubs and the Dodgers can match his value with non-MLB or rookie talent.
  13. QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 1, 2015 -> 07:19 PM) Disappointing that they aren't throwing Johnson right into the rotation Not really. I mean, I'm all for moving Danks or Samardzija to the 'pen for the month, but that won't happen. I think he'll be named a starter soon, once Rodon reaches his limit. I hope we don't use a 6-man rotation.
  14. QUOTE (Mike F. @ Sep 1, 2015 -> 06:13 PM) I hope I'm wrong, but I don't see Thompson as anything special. I mean look at Saladino. He was scorching hot when he got called up, similar to how Thompson is doing now. Since then, Saladino has pretty much fallen off the face of the Earth. I don't think Thompson will be any different. At some point, the pitchers will adjust to him and find weaknesses in his swing. While I agree that Thompson is being overhyped and is nothing special, Saladino was hitting nowhere near as well as Thompson is.
  15. So Johnson and Montas will work out of the bullpen, right?
  16. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Sep 1, 2015 -> 12:50 PM) It was April. It was on the Score and the post was liked 25,000 times. Got some decent ad revenue out of that. I am glad I focused my time on things other than that stupid website and OOTP and began to kick ass in my career. Thanks a lot, you got my hopes up so much...
  17. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Sep 1, 2015 -> 08:43 AM) That Joe Maddon is a genius. Had them wear pajamas on their flight home. Who, other than a genius thinks of these things? I am really surprised they didn't win last night. It must have been the hangover from winning the WS the night before. Kaplan on his show yesterday, "If I told you the Cubs would be 2-4 on this past road trip, would you take it" Every panelist's answer..........yes. The Cubs can do no wrong in Chicago. A WC team 3rd in their division, and this panel was comparing them to the 2004 Red Sox. This disappointment is going to be tremendous. I look forward to it. "Well at least we made the playoffs!" Doesn't matter when neither of us won the WS
  18. A writer for a small website speculated that the Bulls should trade for Rudy Gay. That led to all these Facebook/Twitter posts reading "BREAKING: Bulls pursuing trade for Rudy Gay." My point is, if you see anything like that, don't believe it; it's all speculation. That being said, Gibson and McDermott for Gay- who says no?
  19. QUOTE (LDF @ Sep 1, 2015 -> 08:36 AM) ref first bold, i agree, the sox can go in the red and acquire the players needed to help build the core. the core that will perform on the field. show the fans that this team is serious and the fans will come out. a little in the red is not bad, when building for the future. then, when the sox have success on the fields, the following yr the fans will be coming out. ..... book it. the stipulation the specific point is if the sox show that they have competent manager and FO personnel running the ship. second bold. the sox i agree and i will even go further by stating that the sox needs to acquire one more marque player. Sale is a one in 5 start player and then it is Jose A..... the sox needs another star potential player to help bring out the fans. they need to feel as they are getting their money worth. ref first bold, i agree, if they, the sox goes in the red this yr, to est a core of good players and good results on the field, the second yr the fans will come out, the commercial sponsor will jump on the bandwagon, everything will be growth. but the stipulations or specific point is, if the manger and the FO appear to show they know what they are doing and are competent. second bold, they, the team on the field needs another marque player to help bring in fans.... sale once in every 5 starts, and the I have a feeling their idea of a star player to bring fans to the games is Yasiel Puig, and if it is, I sure hope the asking price is too high (for the team's sake, not the attendance).
  20. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Sep 1, 2015 -> 08:22 AM) From Zeus to Hercules. I suppose you could call it a slump since he, statistically, is having a worse season than 2014, but he is still having a very strong season
  21. QUOTE (AustinIllini @ Sep 1, 2015 -> 08:18 AM) I always assumed Jose Abreu the user was Jose Abreu the player. I don't think Abreu has enough time to be posting on message boards. Plus, he doesn't know much english
  22. QUOTE (AustinIllini @ Sep 1, 2015 -> 08:13 AM) People look at his batting average, but fail to recognize he's a plus fielder, baserunner, and hitter. I'm pretty sure he has completely lived up to the hype. I wouldn't call him a plus fielder. And I think it's his strikeouts that turn people off more than his average.
  23. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Sep 1, 2015 -> 08:15 AM) The hype was near Ruthian. Despite that, he's been great. We'll see if he gets hit by a sophomore slump like Abreu. I don't know what sophomore slump you're referring to.
