  1. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Aug 31, 2015 -> 06:47 PM) I absolutely agree about Heyward and Upton but there are other free agents that could help too. The Sox can look at trade possibilities too and not trades that empty the farm either. An exchange of bad contracts (Danks, LaRoche) is certainly a possibility and Hahn has mentioned that a few times throughout the season. Maybe there's a team or two willing to take on one year of Danks or LaRoche since the risk is only for one season. I'm not counting on it but crazier things have happened. Since none of us work for the FO we don't know anything about the Sox budgets or their plans this off season so I will not rule anything out. Many on this board did not think the Sox would acquire the players they did last winter and yet they did. Things did not go according to plan this year but that doesn't mean the Sox will stop trying. Way to early to write off the off season on the last day of August. That's true. I'm not writing off the offseason, just was stating that I don't think it will be as great as everyone expects.
  2. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Aug 31, 2015 -> 06:07 PM) We'll free up nearly $10M by getting rid of Bonifacio, Beckham, & the ghost of Jeff Keppinger. Throw in Shark & Alexei and we could be looking at a good $30M in savings. Obviously there will be raises that offsets a portion of this money, but we should be able to add some pieces in free agency this offseason. Who says we're not re-signing Beckham?
  3. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Aug 31, 2015 -> 05:43 PM) Waving goodbye to Samardzija saves 9.8M right of the bat. Looking at the contracts, there is potential for the Sox to save a few bucks here and there which can add up. I agree with LDF that this off season will be a very interesting one. The Sox will have some room to work with. http://www.baseballprospectus.com/compensa...cago-white-sox/ Ok, let's say we do have a lot of money to play with (which we won't, thanks to Balta for explaining)... it's not like there are any lucrative free agents on the market for us. Heyward and Upton are overrated and will be extremely overpaid by a big market team IMO
  4. I doubt we trade him.
  5. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 31, 2015 -> 05:32 PM) Well he has always been my second most hated player in baseball behind Samardzija why
  6. They shouldn't have said "game he played in", they should have simply said "his game". I suppose it is a little less significant than I originally thought, but it's still something.
  7. QUOTE (LDF @ Aug 31, 2015 -> 02:40 PM) well at least the sox may had some iron in the fire. as i said, i really believe this is going to be a fun off season. I don't get why you, and other posters here, think that. It's not like we have that much money to spend, and the FA market (outside of starting pitching, which we don't really need) is unattractive.
  8. QUOTE (WhiteSoxLifer @ Aug 31, 2015 -> 03:32 PM) I thought Hahn said the sox were going to make a waiver trade or 2. Still got till eastern time midnight to maybe dump someone lol He didn't say that. That was just a SoxTalk poster who misinterpreted an interview.
  9. QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Aug 31, 2015 -> 08:44 AM) Maybe but the Yankees were pretty active in trying to add a reliever add the non-waiver deadline and apparently made a decent offer for Kimbrel. They wanted to add another really good reliever to Betances and Miller to try to make games in the playoffs 6 innings since their rotation is nothing special. Good point. They want a 3-headed monster like Kansas City's.
  10. QUOTE (oldsox @ Aug 31, 2015 -> 08:36 AM) What is RV's current contract status? At the beginning of the 2014 season, we agreed to a "multi-year extension" with him, without actual terms of the contract being announced. From what I understand, managerial contracts don't really matter.
  11. QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Aug 31, 2015 -> 02:52 AM) They can't possibly return Robin. I love my Sox but I won't watch next season. Prepare to not watch next season them. They've given every indication that he'll be back next year.
  12. Without proper defensive personnel and without healthy wide receivers, my record prediction has changed from 5-11 to 3-13.
  13. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Aug 31, 2015 -> 08:25 AM) Don't think it's surprising in the least bit. And unless they put together a killer package no way we let him go. Not much to see here unless we hear sox are open to neogtiaions. Surprising because we've heard absolutely nothing regarding us placing anybody on waivers, and with a few hours to go, we hear something.
  14. I guess Jones could transition into closer. I don't expect to get much in return for him if he is traded.
  15. Wow... this is surprising.
  16. Anderson being up this soon already would be rushing it. His defense, while improved, needs to be further developed. Give it another year and he'll be ready.
  17. QUOTE (Flash Tizzle @ Aug 30, 2015 -> 11:09 PM) We're hopeless, but it's not nearly as bad. Whenever you have a pitcher of Sale's calibur leading Rodon and Quintana it's not terrible. However, where it's similar is we're both hopelessly behind several divisional opponents who are in a MUCH better position to compete. My question is, how do we compete with Kansas City and Detroit come 2016 and beyond? When that question is answered, we'll be no better than those clubs dealing with their divisional leaders. I'd argue that it's really KCR and the Twins that we have to worry about, not the Tigers.
  18. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Aug 30, 2015 -> 10:54 PM) God it must have been terrible being a Cubs fan in that timeframe, huh? Sox won the World Series, Cubs couldn't win a playoff series, had to have a priest bless a dugout, blowing money on Soriano, Zambrano going nuts, being incredibly awful for years, White Sox winning that stupid Crosstown Cup. Serious question- when did this happen?
  19. QUOTE (AustinIllini @ Aug 30, 2015 -> 10:51 PM) It has been a terrible 9 seasons since 2006. 2008 was the worst!
  20. QUOTE (AustinIllini @ Aug 30, 2015 -> 10:46 PM) Have you looked at us recently? We are a mirror image of both of those clubs. No we aren't. We have three of the top 30 players in baseball, they don't.
  21. QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Aug 30, 2015 -> 10:15 PM) Honestly it's foolhardy to make predictions on what will happen in the playoffs. Baseball is just so random anything could happen and I wouldn't be surprised. A team could win 115 games 5 straight seasons and never get out of the first round. On the other hand, a mediocre team could get hot and win it all due to some scrub playing over his head. The quality of the team means less in the baseball playoffs than in any other sport. You just have to get in. Well said. 2014 Royals are a good recent example.
