  1. QUOTE (bmags @ Jul 27, 2015 -> 09:47 AM) I was listening to game on radio yesterday, and one thing that excited me was toward the end of the game it seemed like he was throwing his change consistently. Far from the beginning of year where he'd show it 8-10 times per game, there were at bats where he'd throw it 3-4 times. Did that seem to be the case? Was DJ just misidentifying the slider? I believe Rodon threw 21 change-ups.
  2. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jul 27, 2015 -> 09:55 AM) Him and Simon have been brutal this year. Verlander is a shell of himself, and Sanchez has been pretty bad this year as well. If they trade Price, their rotation will be so bad...
  3. QUOTE (bmags @ Jul 27, 2015 -> 09:27 AM) I am hoping we trade samardjiza, but I'm honestly very intrigued by this past weekend. This was such a breath of fresh air to see offense over multiple games (against a good rotation). To see power, man. That was great. So, if you guys could get a rental upgrade over one position, what would you choose/is there anyone you have in mind? I have to think RF would be top priority for me, moving laroche to a platoon and avi with him. Fully happy to let the saladino ride continue so we can have a better idea if we happened to stumble into a positive war 3rd baseman. Not sure there are many options for 3rd coming in FA for a while, and i've soured on FA after this year. I think we desperately need a DH who can hit LHP.
  4. At this point, I think no move is the best move. A comp pick for Samardzija could be better than what we'd expect, and this way, we'd let our own players decide if we're going for it or not.
  5. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jul 27, 2015 -> 08:34 AM) And just like Buehrle, it's a majorly back loaded contract. Shields only gets $10 mil this season, but that jumps to $21 million per year for 2016-2018. That should limit their trade market unless they throw in major cash. He's also from the SD area, which is a double nut punch if they do trade him. So basically, nobody's gonna want Shields 2016-2018... interesting.
  6. QUOTE (shipps @ Jul 27, 2015 -> 09:28 AM) So are you claiming Rodon is a racist? Can one be racist towards himself?

QUOTE (Jake @ Jul 27, 2015 -> 09:09 AM) Flowers has certainly played about as badly as humanly possible, at least at the plate, for the past 2 or 3 weeks. Soto has been gradually getting more time and it's fair to keep ramping it up. Is anyone aware of whether there's a health concern keeping him from an everyday role? Ever since his rookie year, I'm pretty sure he just hasn't been able to start daily due to durability issues, just like Quintana always falls after ~150 innings, Rose can't play a full season, etc. P.S.- did you know Tyler Flowers' name is actually Cole? Just found that out.
  8. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jul 27, 2015 -> 12:58 AM) I just have a sinking feeling that Keuchel will get it due to his ERA unless Chris gets beneath 2.50 But Chris has a lower FIP
  9. Many teams looking at Kimbrel
  10. Angels interested in David Murphy.
  11. Royals interested in Martin Prado.
  12. I remember the "Sox acquire Jeff Samardzija" thread got like 200 pages of responses. It's sad that in such a short time, the "What can we get when we sell Samardzija" thread exists and has 86 pages.
  13. QUOTE (flavum @ Jul 26, 2015 -> 09:18 PM) June 27 at Tigers. Will be made up September 21. Forgot about that one. Thank you
  14. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 26, 2015 -> 09:08 PM) Have you looked at the fWAR numbers for the guys we traded away? Samardzija 2.5, Phegley + Bassitt + Semien 2.4, and salary isn't exactly even. Ravelo back to health and hitting again but still in the minors and a ways away. I'd take that back for him happily. I'm honestly surprised that those 3 players combine for a 2.4 fWAR. I'd assume that Semien's defense alone makes him a negative WAR player.
  15. QUOTE (flavum @ Jul 26, 2015 -> 09:16 PM) And they only have one game that hasn't been made up. So it's just been more off days to this point than most teams. I think the trade deadline should be when most teams have 54 games left. A third of a season is a good number. Which game hasn't been made up?
  16. QUOTE (flavum @ Jul 26, 2015 -> 09:04 PM) It sucks the Sox have played the fewest amount of games in the league. They have the least information to make a decision about selling or not. Meanwhile, the Tigers suck. Thanks, Chicago weather!
  17. QUOTE (SoCalSox @ Jul 26, 2015 -> 08:53 PM) Completely agree. Worst farm system in baseball & a ton of aging players & a s*** pitching staff & they want to contend instead of building their farm w/ two big trades of Price & Cespedes? Stupid. Went to their baseball-reference page because I didn't think they had a s*** pitching staff. But damn... that's a s*** pitching staff. Outside of Price, they have literally zero decent pitchers. Even Anibal Sanchez sucks now.
  18. QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Jul 26, 2015 -> 08:49 PM) Certainly a tall order but I'd still be surprised if the Twins finished with 85 wins. They'll miss the playoffs. 83 wins may do it. Just keep winning. To me, the 2015 Twins = the 2012 White Sox. They'll fall off, it's just a matter of when.
  19. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 26, 2015 -> 08:47 PM) Shane Greene absolutely sucks now, so Tigers likely to lose tonight as down 4-1. Seems like Tigers have to win the series at Tampa this week to avoid becoming sellers. Tigers' GM confirmed that they're buyers. And it's funny to see Shane Greene pitching so poorly now after his start to the season
  20. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 26, 2015 -> 08:47 PM) Wasn't he great last year? Good defense, hit .319 in 70 games at single A and then played 43 games at AA-AAA.
  21. QUOTE (Bigsoxhurt35 @ Jul 26, 2015 -> 08:45 PM) He's hit really well actually since being sent down. Currently hitting .390 during his 14 game hit streak at AAA. Just FYI. I've never heard of him so I looked him up. Has he been mentioned as a name for Shark? It's just names at this point no one knows the package. But still just .273 overall at AAA this year. And yes, he is a potential Samardzija trade return.
  22. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jul 26, 2015 -> 08:41 PM) He has tools. And he's really good defensively but Sox never develop guys like him. That, and he hasn't even performed well in the minors.
  23. QUOTE (BigFinn @ Jul 26, 2015 -> 08:35 PM) Assuming we could find a taker for Adam LaRoche, would Micah Johnson as DH be enough of a bat—good on-base skills and speed on the base but not so much power—to help the club for a "playoff push?" I've always been opposed to the "your DH must be a power hitter" mindset. That being said, yes, the fact that he's a LHH would give him a place in the lineup, he's a pretty good contact hitter, base-stealer, and he could fill in as a backup INF every now and then (Green because we already have like 1000 backup infielders)
  24. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jul 26, 2015 -> 08:37 PM) Am I the only one that thinks Dalton Pompey sucks? You are not alone. So overrated.
  25. FWIW, the Rangers are out of all Samardzija/rental trade talks and are now looking for players who are signed beyond 2015.
