Hahn's next move?
QUOTE (raBBit @ Jan 12, 2014 -> 10:03 PM) I have noticed that as well. They have a bunch of retreads coming to camp with them. A guy who would make a lot of sense would be an Eric Chavez type. I believe Chavez signed back with the D-back. We have Conor Gillaspie. He's kind of like Chavez. He doesn't field as well or hit as much but he is LH and he stands by 3B. Gillaspie and De Aza for a scrub

Expectations: Jose Abreu
QUOTE (hi8is @ Jan 12, 2014 -> 09:04 PM) You, Mr. Abreu... Are a pure hitting beast. You're more than just a power guy. You'll hit at least .280 and will easily aproach 25 doubles and 25 bombs. I suspect however, that you'll far surpass those marks in what will be a fine rookie season. Thank you hi8is. Also, did you edit my quote?

Expectations: Jose Abreu
QUOTE (SCCWS @ Jan 12, 2014 -> 06:56 PM) I think .260 with 20 HR. I think he starts slow at AAA or platoon at IB /DH in Majors. Then produces 2nd half of season. Is a AAA start even an option? And don't start screaming Puig. We're paying Abreu far more.

Expectations: Jose Abreu
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jan 12, 2014 -> 03:28 PM) I wonder how many times Steve Adams has seen him play. I bet less than 10 games. Nobody has really seen him play. I guess if you don't count those YT videos of him hitting a few bombs in the WBC.

Expectations: Jose Abreu
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 12, 2014 -> 03:16 PM) Cespedes came over and hit .292/.861 OPS as a rookie. Struggled more last year but still hit .240 with his numbers really being knocked down by strikeouts. The consensus I saw was that Abreu had a much better approach and eye at the plate than Cespedes. If he hits .240 and strikes out 130+ times, yeah I'm probably going to be disappointed. 130+? I've seen several ESPN/MLBTR guys label him as a 200 K guy.

Rosenthal: Tanaka to Yankees
QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jan 12, 2014 -> 03:12 PM) Elliott's source also outlined what Tanaka will be seeking from potential suitors. "Tanaka wants to go to a World Series, wants a city where his family will feel at home since they don’t speak English. He has a desire to be on a team with potential to win and loves the pressure." Chicago fulfills that. I feel like it depends if the Sox can sell him on Sale/Q/JDA/Avi/Eaton/Davidson being the core of a contender. Yes, Chicago fulfills that, but so does New York, LA, Boston, etc.

Expectations: Jose Abreu
What numbers do you think Abreu will put up? It seems like when we signed him, many experts said he'll come right in rookie year and hit .280 with 35+ home runs. Now, however, those general expectations have changed to a 30 HR/ 85 RBI/ .225 AVG. In fact, I was in an MLB Trade Rumors chat with Steve Adams a few weeks ago, and he said he'd be surprised if Abreu hit over .245. Is this just a result of the hype dying down, or was Abreu really being that overrated when we signed him?

Rosenthal: Tanaka to Yankees
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jan 12, 2014 -> 12:02 AM) Ill put it out here so my box doesnt keep filling up. I've heard from my contacts that the Sox think they may be able to afford him, however it it breaks 20 mil annually, they are out. Translation: They are out.

Rosenthal: Tanaka to Yankees
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 11, 2014 -> 03:26 PM) The posting fee Does not count towards the luxury tax according to multiple internet sources. The only thing that counts towards the tax is the money paid to him directly through whatever contract he signs. OK, so then they have enough money to sign him.

Rosenthal: Tanaka to Yankees
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 11, 2014 -> 10:56 AM) So, prior to today, the Yankees would have been $0.2 million over the luxury tax when they completed Roberts's deal. The Yankees appear to have $27.3 million to spend this year without hitting the luxury tax level. So does that include the $20MM posting fee?

Rosenthal: Tanaka to Yankees
QUOTE (Baron @ Jan 9, 2014 -> 08:16 PM) Except the part where many thought that LeBron was going to the Heat in the first place and nobody really knows where Tanaka might go. Plus the situation for both at the time isnt remotely close. But other than that yeah its similar. Many think Tanaka is going to the Yankees (including me). Yes the situations are different but I'm just saying I feel the same way. False hope until the last second.

Rosenthal: Tanaka to Yankees
This feels like how the Bulls pitched to LeBron. We declined to comment until after The Decision, and it turns out he pretty much knew where he was going before the meetings ("I decided this morning" was B.S.).

Frank Thomas Is a Hall of Famer
QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jan 8, 2014 -> 04:19 PM) Let's all laugh at this Facebook comment: "Jack Morris shouldve made it! He had the most wins in the 80s!" QUOTE (Paulstar @ Jan 8, 2014 -> 04:49 PM) He also had 169 complete games, three world series rings (1 times world series MVP), started three all-star games, was the undisputed ace on most of his teams, something like 500 consecutive starts without missing a turn into the rotation, all while spending the majority of his time pitching in a hitters paradise. Maybe his ERA and WHIP are higher than you'd like, but I see no reason why that should be held against him because he did win and he was extremely clutch and you could always count on him for a big game. The guy was a winner. I don't understand why he shouldn't have been elected, but hopefully he'll make it with the Veterans Committee down the line. However, this thread is about Frank and it is a special honor. I think the steroid era did negatively effect his performance to because he eventually went away from his opposite field approach that he had in his best years and I feel like he tried to pull the ball and hit more home runs when he had to compete with all these guys juicing up. I'm not saying that Morris should not have made it. My intention was that this person thinks that his win number is the deciding factor (rather than what you said). We all know a pitcher's win count means nothing.

Oh, and this too: "If Bagwell had played in Chicago and Thomas in Houston, NO DOUBT that Baggy would be a HOFer!!!"
