Price rising for Sale and Q
Ken Rosenthal article on top trade targets. Hes supposed to be talking about it on the hot stove on mlb network http://www.foxsports.com/mlb/gallery/ken-r...-targets-110716 The market conditions for a trade of Sale could not be much better. Sale is under control for three more seasons and $38 million -- not terribly beyond what Zack Greinke makes in a single year. The free-agent starters, meanwhile, are mostly pitchers that teams do not want, certainly not at market-driven prices. Will the White Sox want a ton for Sale? Of course. And they could get it, too.

Price rising for Sale and Q
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 7, 2016 -> 10:09 AM) The impression I remember is that they wanted Bradley AND their top prospects. That is why the talks never got off of the ground. Probably didnt get off the ground cause boston didn't want to take away from their roster in the playoff chase. I think it was said offseasn would be better to talk those kinda trades

Misc. Sox Quotes & Tweets
https://www.bostonglobe.com/sports/redsox/2...hdSK/story.html Chicago White Sox — More than one GM has said that White Sox GM Rick Hahn is open for business on just about his entire roster. That includes Chris Sale and the rest of the rotation, Jose Abreu, third baseman Todd Frazier, and closer David Robertson.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 18, 2016 -> 02:13 PM) Jays trade for Navarro. Or are you referring to AFL roster? If that is the case, no idea. Colton got added on oct. 2 to the desert dogs roster. I kinda forgot all about him since the trade.

QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Oct 16, 2016 -> 06:05 PM) Yeah I agree. MLBTR article said we'd want a package of Bradley/Devers/Rodriguez?? That would be a horrible return for Sale. Bradley is overrated and our FO's infatuation with getting him rather than Benintendi/Kopech/Groome type guys is puzzling. QUOTE (ChiliIrishHammock24 @ Oct 16, 2016 -> 11:25 PM) I think MLBTR was just naming pieces that they felt would be expendable for Boston, not naming the entire package, or one they feel is fair. If its the recent mlbtr article then its going off of nick carfardo article which i posted earlier. https://www.bostonglobe.com/sports/redsox/2...MCvK/story.html

Price rising for Sale and Q
https://www.bostonglobe.com/sports/redsox/2...MCvK/story.html "Dave Dombrowski doesn’t strike me as the stand-pat type." Since the Red Sox already have a decent rotation, why not go for the luxury model — White Sox lefthander Chris Sale. If he’s in play, why wouldn’t the Red Sox make a trade bid? They inquired about him during the season and this time the White Sox might listen if the package is good enough. In talking to some of the White Sox pro scouting personnel, it’s obvious who they like and would want back from the Red Sox to make this blockbuster a reality. The White Sox have always coveted Jackie Bradley Jr., and they would also have to get an elite prospect back such as Yoan Moncada and/or Rafael Devers. The Red Sox could make a deal for the following reasons: Andrew Benintendi has impressed enough that if he could become Boston’s center fielder to replace Bradley, Devers would likely stay at third base. Moncada could always move to left field if he’s not part of the deal. The Red Sox may also have the option of using Shaw in left field to add another lefthanded bat to the lineup. A Sale, David Price, Rick Porcello, Eduardo Rodriguez, Steven Wright, Drew Pomeranz/Buchholz pool of starters would look pretty solid. The White Sox might even want Rodriguez in a deal with Bradley. If that’s the case, would you do it? Bradley is an interesting case. The Red Sox had to be concerned at the number of swing and misses he had the last few weeks of the season, and particularly in the playoff series against the Indians, during which he struck out seven times in 10 at-bats. It’s not that you judge a player based on just that, but the emergence of Benintendi gives you reason to consider whether Bradley is expendable. Then again, it’s difficult to find a center fielder with power (26 homers). When you think more deeply about it, it could be too heavy a price. To me i not high on jbj. Defensively hes good and got better but the post season swing and misses are alarming. The biggest turn off to me of him is the contract. Again trading 3 years of sale for 4 years of jbj and definitely hitting free agency cause hes a boras client doesn't seem like a good idea. Benintendi played well in his time with boston and was one of the more consistent hitters for them in the post-season. Give me a package of moncada, Benintendi, devers, kopech starting with and i would be happpy.

Hahn spoke briefly about the playoff pitching struggles of certain teams possibly elevating interest in Chris Sale and/or Jose Quintana... https://twitter.com/scottmerkin/status/786610886840418304 Hahn: "People tend to perhaps overreact to small samples in October. But I'm guessing, based on how things have gone so far ... https://twitter.com/scottmerkin/status/786611045506781184 More Hahn: "... we expected a lot of calls heading into the offseason, and this probably only reinforces that idea." https://twitter.com/scottmerkin/status/786611093485461504

Im really not big on getting jackie Bradley jr. Yes he would plug a hole now but you are only talking 4 years of control. Hes a boras client and with him seeming to be turning the corner for better is definitely going to free agency and going to cost a pretty penny. If hes included in a deal for sale then you are probably getting less amount of prospects back. Also if hes included are we going to be talking about trading him again because the sox cant let him walk in free agency for nothing cause they cant sign him. To me i would rather be trying to get a package of moncada, Benintendi, devers, kopech as a starting point cause they will have far more control.

White Sox Listening on Sale
QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Sep 14, 2016 -> 12:54 PM) Fowler also reportedly turned down more $ from the Sox and took less with the Cubs last year. I don't think he's a realistic option at anything short of $15M+ AAV for 3-4 years. Plus a draft pick.

White Sox Listening on Sale
QUOTE (JUSTgottaBELIEVE @ Sep 14, 2016 -> 12:22 PM) I already laid it out in other threads but I will repeat again here. Here's the lineup that I believe is absolutely a contender. I have already stated that it will cost the White Sox an additional $15-20MM in payroll compared to this season but if JR is truly going for it then these are the types of moves required to make the next step. Projected lineup using their 2016 statistics: 1. Fowler CF (833 OPS, wRC+ 127) 2. Eaton RF (798 OPS, wRC+ 116) 3. Abreu 1B/DH (832 OPS, wRC+ 119) 4. Cabrera LF (780 OPS, wRC+ 107) 5. Frazier 3B (749 OPS, wRC+ 96) 6. Moreland DH/1B (763 OPS, wRC+ 97) 7. Wieters C (701 OPS, wRC+ 84) 8. Lawrie 2B (723 OPS, wRC+ 91) / Saladino 2B (731 OPS, wRC+ 93) 9. Anderson SS (729 OPS, wRC+ 92) You have 1 very good hitter, 2 good hitters, 1 slightly above average hitter, 2 average hitters, 2 slightly below average hitters, and 1 below average hitter. I see no reason why that is anything less than a league average offense. Combine that with 4 starters carrying an ERA under 4, including 2 guys just over 3, and all you need from the #5 starter is a mid to upper 4 ERA rather than the close to 8 they have gotten this season. I also expect a bullpen of Robertson, Jennings, Jones, Putnam, Petricka, Burdi, and ? via trade or FA to be improved from this season. Again fowler is not a guarantee free agent. How do you get 15-20 million. Fowler if becomes availabile would be about 10-15 by himself a year. Hes getting 8 now and would be 9 if he stays. Since hes upped his value and if he did become a free agent hes getting a nice chunk especially since boras is his agent. Weiters probably going to be 10 million ish. And again they will both probably cost a pick which the sox dont seem to want to give up. Moreland could be some nice change. Also we thought the sox bullpen would be improved this year especially with jones coming back full time but ended up blowing 9 games sofar. Bullpens are fickle and you can not guarantee they will be better next year. Cant buy your logic. Also moreland has put up 58 rbis sofar. The combined dh for the sox has put up 76 rbi's this year sofar. Moreland i believe would be a downgrade

Jose Abreu
Jose Abreu leads the Majors with 20 RBIs in 12 September games. https://twitter.com/scottmerkin/status/776092449534083072 Dating back to August 4, Abreu is slashing .382/.422/.658 with 12 homers and 38 RBI in 37 games https://twitter.com/scottmerkin/status/776092555394027521 In his 32 games prior to this stretch, Abreu slashed .274/.326/.339 with zero homers and nine RBIs all per MLB Network notes https://twitter.com/scottmerkin/status/776092672532615168

White Sox Listening on Sale
QUOTE (JUSTgottaBELIEVE @ Sep 14, 2016 -> 08:55 AM) A) your whole argument with SS2K is based on the notion that trading Sale will result in more wins next season which will lead to an increase in attendence so yes you did actually say it without saying it. If you don't think the Sox will win more games next season by trading Sale then why are you even arguing? B) of course you left out Fowler and I stand by my opinion that these 4 acquisitions plus an improved bullpen absolutely put the Sox in a position to compete next season. Already stated this before but the Sox are 7-20 when Ranaudo/Shields/Danks start. Give me an average starter in place of these dopes and that results in a 13-14 record in those games (not asking for much). Consequently, the team is 6 wins better with just that one move: 76-68 or 3 GB of the wild card. Again, that's just addressing 1 spot on the 25 man roster while leaving the rest untouched. Sorry man but your fowler, moreland, volquez, and wieters isn't turning the sox into contenders. Volquez has a 5.00+ era and puting up -.4 war this year. Sox would be better running out fulmer tho will probably have growing pains. Moreland isnt going to upgrade the lineup that much. Lets put him to comparison of Melky. Melky has a .292 avg, .343 obp .437 slg, .780 ops, 32 2b, 10 hrs, 71 rbi's, 114 ops+ and 1.8 war vs moreland .242 avg, .312 obp, .451 slg, .762 ops, 21 2b, 22 hrs, 58 rbi's, 98 ops+ and a 1.3 war for their 2016 stats sofar. So ya moreland will give you more homeruns and higher slugging. If the sox were to contend they need a better run producer then moreland. Hes pretty much a lesser version of dunn. Fowler isn't even guaranteed to be a free agent. Still has a mutual option with the cubs for next year. If he were to become a free agent i would imagine a qualifying offer being attached and sox weren't willing to give up a pick last year for him and dont imagine again this offseason. Being that hes a boras client i imagine the cost will be pretty high and sox dont cough up money. Wieters is again a boras client so I imagine boras trying to get as much out of him as possible money wise. He probably will have qualifying offer attached too and again sox didnt want to give up pick last and probably not this year. Plus again the sox dont cough up money. Also dont know how this going to be improved pen looks like. Petricka and Putnam arent going to put the sox over top especially not knowing how healthy they will be. Sox aren't going to throw money at chapman. The 2 biggest parts of the pen in jones and Robertson have blown 16 saves together of the 28 blowns saves from the entire pen that leads the majors. Thats 57% of the blown saves coming from you best options in the pen. Sox have some holes and being in one of the weakest free agent classes is not a good place to be in. Not much in minors to fill the gabs either at the majors or not alot of depth to trade
