What Rogers says makes sense and has been speculated all off season so he's really not reporting anything new. Until some rumors come out with regards to how much money the Dodgers are willing to eat for Ethier, I'll take this with a grain of salt. As for Crawford, good luck Dodgers, lol.

Yep, the Angels and Orioles are still looking for outfielders that could lead off. Texas would be interested on a one year deal and possibly the Indians could be in the mix although they likely shoot for Jackson. I'd like to see the Sox work something out with Fowler but I'm not counting on it. For some reason I lean towards the Sox making a trade instead.

http://www.digitaljournal.com/sports/op-ed.../article/455987 Nothing really new, just more speculation. I do wonder how serious the Dodgers are in moving Ethier. Not much being said about it outside of sports writer's speculating. I know the Dodgers like depth but good grief how many outfielders do they need, lol? Just tell the Dodgers we'll take on all of Ethier's contract if they include Thompson in a package for Avi.

QUOTE (Pants Rowland @ Jan 31, 2016 -> 10:59 AM) His bar in Berwyn sucks. Reminds me of a sterile hotel bar. Lol. Don't hold back man, tell us how you really feel. I've never been there but I looked at the website and there's some nice eye candy in red dresses.

The Sox put up alot of really cool pics on facebook from SoxFest if anyone is interested.

Maybe it's just me but Frazier's demeanor reminds me alot of PK. Laid back, calm, cool and yet not afraid to speak his mind.

QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Jan 31, 2016 -> 10:59 AM) Victorino hits right handed only now. I know you were just spit balling but felt I should acknowledge that. Could def see McLouth, Venable, DeJesus (lives in the area), Matt Joyce, or Sizemore. Thanks for the correction, I had forgotten Victorino no longer bats from the left side. After thinking more about it, Shuck is probably a better idea than signing one of those players. If RF is going to be upgraded, I think it's going to be via trade.

So when we're right around .500 in July, what do we do?

QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Jan 31, 2016 -> 09:47 AM) Seems dumb. We already overhauled the roster the last few years. We're clearly on the upward climb. What's not to like? I'm with you. JR isn't doing a full rebuild so the next best option is to replace players that aren't performing regardless of the Sox record come July 31. I hoping for Saladino to hit well enough to stick as the SS of the future so the Sox can move Anderson to CF in Charlotte to become the future CF of the Sox hopefully after the '16 season. Eventually Melky takes the DH role when LaRoche is gone and who knows, with a little luck Jacob May might hit well enough at Charlotte to eventually replace Melky in LF. Still need to find a power bat for RF and preferably left handed so maybe the Sox can find that at the deadline or next off season. Despite the lack of signing a FA OF, the Sox made some really nice improvements so far this off season. I really like were they are right now and the direction they are headed. Imo, they aren't a contender yet but are much closer than they were when the season ended. -
QUOTE (fathom @ Jan 31, 2016 -> 10:17 AM) It would be fine with me if it is in addition to Desmond. If they sign Rollins and DeJesus, then melt away I'm looking at alternatives to Fowler and Desmond and it don't look good unless the Sox pull off a trade of some sort. Not trying to be a downer, just realistic. I think Fowler returns to the cubs and I don't see the Sox giving up the pick for Desmond. I really would'nt be surprised to see the Sox sign one of Victorino, McLouth, Venable as platoon partners for Avi in RF. Not a prediction, just spit-balling.

QUOTE (LDF @ Jan 31, 2016 -> 09:41 AM) many thanks for a dose of the absurd. ..... i love it. thanks for the laugh You laugh now but just wait until the Sox sign one of these guys. The board name will change to ChernobylTalk with the theme song " two suns in the sunset".

Just because I'm cruel, I'm going to throw the names of Victorino, Sizemore, Venable, McLouth and DeJesus out there now in preparation of the cubs re-signing Fowler. Sorry, the caffeine from my morning coffee hasn't hit yet.

That part of the quote really sticks out for me. IMHO, that's something a clubhouse leader would say.

QUOTE (ypres @ Jan 30, 2016 -> 09:01 AM) Hey, guys, its me again. So, I have a new GF who just got out of a relationship but she wants to keep things slow. Which is fine, I don't really have a whole lot of experience in the dating scene. I guess I am wondering about what not to do too early to make sure I don't overstep any boundaries. Thanks. Since she's the one that wants to take it slow, follow her lead. Last thing you want to do is be pushy with a woman that just got out of a relationship. Also, be sure the previous relationship is "over". QUOTE (Brian @ Jan 30, 2016 -> 12:20 PM) Anal. My man, that's what I'm talking about! Don't be a quitter, hitter in the ...

It should be noted that Hayes admitted he doesn't know much about the players and that he thinking out loud.

Think I'd rather have Saladino over both Ahmed and Owings. Now if AZ was willing to talk about Socrates Brito, that's a different story.

QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Jan 30, 2016 -> 06:27 PM) Scratch that. I just realized he got traded to the Mariners at some point this offseason. Whoops. I missed that.

QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Jan 30, 2016 -> 05:53 PM) It def makes sense for rebuilding teams to take on expensive soon to be done deals as long as they get some prospects/young controllable players. I like it from their standpoint as well. Do they still have Sardinas? I assume he would play short. Yes they do. Sardinas should be able to keep the SS position warm until Arcia is ready.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jan 30, 2016 -> 06:06 PM) They don't care about the draft. They will just spend a fortune on Lazarito with the money they can't spend on the draft I wouldn't be surprised if that's how it went down. I think Fowler is giving the cubs a chance to finish their arbitration cases, Arrieta, and then see what the Cubs offer will be. The idea of trading Coghlan is the smarter move. Soler blows in RF so signing Fowler to play CF, playing Heyward in RF and moving Soler into a platoon role in LF with Schwarber makes a ton of sense. Especially with how Maddon does a good job with platoon-type players.

Emma works for the score, Levine works for the score. Levine said the same thing a few days ago.Hmmmmm. Are they dating? Seriously though. I think it's very believable it comes down to both Chicago teams. I agree that Fowler would probably prefer the cubs but one interesting thing has been speculated and that's the possibility of the cubs desire to get compensation for Fowler because as of now their first pick would be #104 overall in the draft. OTOH, punting the draft and signing Fowler to give them a solid lead off bat ain't a bad idea either. Should be interesting to see where Fowler ends up.

I did not think AZ would find a team willing to trade for Hill. Still yet, I like the deal from the Brewers perspective. I know Diaz is young but he mashed rookie ball pretty well.

QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Jan 30, 2016 -> 07:14 AM) I don't think he's the odd man out in LA. I think they end up moving Guerrero this spring. I forgot about Guerrero. It would make more sense for the Dodgers to trade Guerrero than Hernandez. -

Ventura: LaRoche will have to earn his spot in Spring Training

QUOTE (LDF @ Jan 30, 2016 -> 02:15 PM) 50 at bats, in spring training or whatever it is, will not be enuf to judge anyone. the point of regressing is also how to gage it, when he is horrible in the beginning of every season. so he is on the team, the fans should accept this, and see if there is some improvement come june, mid june. that is all i am trying to point out in how i see this. i can't help it, it just doesn't make sense to what RV is saying. I don't understand the confusion. Based on LaRoche's performance last season, what RV said makes perfect sense to me. Also, let's keep in mind that ST is not based on stats alone but more about how does the player look. In LaRoche's case, it will be about how he is seeing the ball in his ST at bats, the mechanics of his swing, his glove work at 1B and his overall focus towards the '16 season to see if he has mentally put '15 behind him. LaRoche is a veteran with a good attitude so he should be able to put '15 behind him. -
QUOTE (LDF @ Jan 30, 2016 -> 01:23 PM) yeah and i would really be apprehensive, if i was the sox FO to extend melky or even frazier. now with frazier, it will depend on how he preforms. yet, i should say, i should see how all 3 preforms. I seriously doubt the Sox extend Melky. Frazier and Lawrie would make sense but both the team and players have to have the desire to stay together. If the player performs well and likes the team then surely there would be mutual interest. We'll see what happens over the next two years.

QUOTE (LDF @ Jan 30, 2016 -> 01:28 PM) so as i see this, this being written out and thought of logically, laroche is and will be on the team, he will not be let go during ST and his continue presence may depend on his defense, with an occasional playing time. that is the bare minimum. so again, it is all bluster coming from the FO on laroche just to appease the fans. Huh? Of course LaRoche will be on the team, and should be to see if he can regain some of his old form. The Sox are paying him the 13M regardless so theres nothing wrong with seeing if theres anything left in the tank during ST. If a player out-performs him in ST then LaRoche becomes a LH bench bat with power potential late in games as well as serving as a quality backup to 1B. If LaRoche continues to regress during the season and the Sox need his roster spot, then they can release him but there's no point in releasing him now.
