QUOTE (LDF @ Nov 25, 2015 -> 03:09 PM) then have the sox Beck, and Nolan Sanburn for him, if they say no.... then screw it. The Dodgers are looking for a pitcher to potentially take Grienke's spot in the rotation so I'd bet they want something just a bit better and more proven than Beck/Sanburn. Look at the Dodgers farm, Beck and Sanburn wouldn't be tempting in the least bit for the Dodgers.

QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ Nov 25, 2015 -> 02:51 PM) They aren't in a position to deal from the farm yet in my opinion. And yet, they already have with the Almonte/Kahnle trade. I'm not against trading young low level pitching for young hitters or to use the young pitching as part of a bigger package for MLB ready talent/players. If the Sox plan on keeping Sale, Q and Rodon then they have no choice but to utilize the young pitching they have in a trade. Hahn has already said they could do just that, although I think he was speaking on pitching youth for hitting youth.

QUOTE (GreenSox @ Nov 25, 2015 -> 02:23 PM) Well, put them (Sale or Q) in the mix and do a blockbuster. the Sox are going to have to break something up to change direction. It's nice to have Sale and Q but they need a supporting cast. And we have some young pitchers coming up. Don't see a blockbuster happening with the Dodgers. They have been very reluctant to trade their top prospects since before the trade deadline when it was first written about and if we're talking about trading Sale or Q, the Sox will certainly be looking for at least a few of those top prospects. As far as I'm concerned, they can keep Puig and the Sox keep Sale/Q.

QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Nov 25, 2015 -> 01:54 PM) Just posted it to show how he thinks he's all that. But I still think the Sox are in such great need of talent that if he's made available at a discounted rate (meaning no Q involved) the Sox should try to get him. Beggars can't be choosers. But as I said before the Dodgers haven't really shown any inclination to move him in the past and doubtful they would sell him at a discount despite being a problem child. They underestimate his presence affecting the team on the field or just refuse to think it plays any role in how other players perform. Not sure the Sox have much to offer that the Dodgers need, which is pitching. Take Sale, Q and Rodon out of the mix and its difficult to see a matchup.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Nov 25, 2015 -> 01:26 PM) They released him. He was a home run derby pitcher when he was healthy. I don't think even if he got close to healthy he would work with the White Sox. I also don't think he would be released if he could be close to healthy. Good catch, I confused him with the Coulombe designation. Good points about Griffin though.

QUOTE (MDWhiteSoxFan @ Nov 25, 2015 -> 01:37 PM) For anyone upset about this it's 2.5 on a 1 year deal to platoon with Flowers... Sure Derek Norris would be nice (not sure how he is defensively) but at what cost. You're giving up assets for him. We aren't in a position for that IMO Yep and the SOX still have their resources (prospects/money) to utilize towards getting a 3B and hopefully SS. 2.5M is a small price to pay for a catcher that gets on base, has some pop and throws out base runners pretty well. This is a very reasonable move for the Sox and a smart move at that.

Interesting stuff about Kahnle's pitch selection and how often he uses those three pitches ( FB, CU, SL). http://www.brooksbaseball.net/outcome.php?...15&s_type=2 From what I've read he has a plus change to go with his mid 90's heat but the slider looks pretty weak. Maybe the Sox can help Kahnle make a few tweaks to help his control and become a valuable asset in the pen. Seems the talent is there.
-
The A'a designated AJ Griffin. Wouldn't mind the Sox adding him for some depth if he's healthy.
-
I was hoping the Sox would sign Avila, nicely done Sox FO.

Seriously Sox fans. Pitchers and catchers do not report for three months so relax and enjoy the off season. Un-twist your knickers!

QUOTE (LDF @ Nov 25, 2015 -> 08:03 AM) i have read some articles yesterday and this line keeps popping up. it is driving me crazy on how people want to use phrases for dramatic flair. it is like saying eaton has the potential to be a 20 hrs and 30 sb player. I can see where the 30 HR potential comes from with Ozuna based on his physical size, youth and that he has hit 23 HR's in a season before so 7 more HR's isn't too far of a stretch over a 162 game season. Certainly doesn't mean he will though. Ozuna does possess the potential for 30 HR's but Loria is using it as a marketing gimmick to help better the return in a trade which is pretty funny since Ozuna just finished a season in which he hit only 10.

QUOTE (GreenSox @ Nov 24, 2015 -> 09:47 PM) ??? The Mariners would trade their best young starter for a hitter with a .691 OPS and a career .311 OBP? "Frisaro tweets that while he hasn’t confirmed anything, he gets the sense that the Marlins covet Walker. However, he adds that the Marlins also aren’t going to give away Ozuna’s potential 30-homer bat in exchange for Elias, thus suggesting that if a trade is ultimately reached, it will be substantial in nature." All I said was I would imagine Walker's name is involved. Easy to see their interest since they have been rumored to be looking for a #2 in return for Ozuna. Last I read,Walker still carries #2 potential and a young pitcher like him is typical of what the Marlins would ask for so their interest in Walker is no surprise. Does not mean the deal happens or that Walker is traded.

QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Nov 24, 2015 -> 09:29 PM) MLB Daily Dish @mlbdailydish 4m4 minutes ago Update: The Marlins are reportedly looking at Roenis Elias and Nate Karns: http://www.mlbdailydish.com/2015/11/24/979...ns-rumors-ozuna … If that's the price....I don't know how were not involved. Agreed. It's possible the Sox have checked in but nothing has leaked or the Sox might not be interested if they feel Thompson can become an every day outfielder.

QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Nov 24, 2015 -> 08:12 PM) If anyone truly wants to see how terrible a team mate Puig is read this: http://sports.yahoo.com/news/book--disdain...-212239227.html The Sox always seem to make a big deal out of wanting a quality person who is also a quality player. Puig is not a quality person. Even if his talent is a good fit for the Sox the Dodgers would surely have to undersell him to find a taker who should all be highly aware of the major clubhouse headaches they would be getting. With the Dodger OF aging fast and not really a strength of the team Puig probably stays a Dodger but they will regret it if they miss the playoffs or are eliminated from them early once again. Thanks for posting this. Puig is the kind of player the Sox do not need. Way too much bulls*** comes with him. If Ozzie was still around it might be a different story.

I would imagine Taijuan Walker is in the mix.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Nov 24, 2015 -> 06:53 PM) I think Avila is a White Sox in 2016. I'm thinking the same thing and the Sox could use a left handed hitting catcher. Avila won't cost the Sox picks or prospects so why not? As for Geo, I really like the guy but I'm not surprised in the least that he moved on. The Sox didn't sound too interested in bringing him back anyway and like it or not, Flowers just ain't going anywhere.
-
Agreed with those that say they would take him over Freese. Looks like a vaccum at 3B and even if his HR power doesn't translate, he has plenty of gap power and seems to find the gaps well. I hope the Sox make a serious bid on him.

QUOTE (scs787 @ Nov 24, 2015 -> 02:49 PM) IMO, one should ask when does Q need to be replaced? Are the Sox contenders next year? If not, does he really need to be replaced? Trading Q is more about the future than anything. In a way, 2 years from now, Rodon replaces Q, and Fulmer replaces Rodon. Well, someone has to fill the void in the rotation. Or should we just not watch those games? If we're talking two years from now then why not trade Sale while we're at it? Just because the Sox are likely not contenders next year doesn't mean they cannot be contenders in '17, with Q. I hate to point this out again, but remember when Jason Castro was good for a season and Sox fans wanted to trade Q for him? I can only imagine the amount of b****ing that would still be going on if that had happened. This is the third off season in a row that some dumbs*** writer has written about trading Q and some fans seemingly took it as gospel.
-
I liked Almonte's potential but let's face it, there is plenty of talent ahead of him in the Sox organization so trading him for a flame throwing reliever isn't a bad thing. I trust the Sox when it comes to pitching. Welcome to the Sox Tommy.

QUOTE (LDF @ Nov 24, 2015 -> 12:56 PM) you make a nice counter point, but the sox are handicap with what they can spend on the FA's.... but as you said, the sox trade Q, who will the sox replace him in the starting rotation??? it is a vicious circle this team is in this off season. Limited funds is why the money should be spent on hitting and not replacing Q. While trading Q could plug a few holes, it opens up a huge hole in the rotation. After Sale and Rodon, the rotation is shaky at best with Danks, EJ and some unknown.
-
QUOTE (WhiteSoxLifer @ Nov 24, 2015 -> 10:02 AM) So the Sox would have a good rotation but horrible offense. That's not going to work. Unfortunately it's the you have to give something in order to get something. The Sox have some nice prospects but not enough to fill all the holes in the offense. Trading multiple prospects and emptying the farm system is not going to work. The only real option is to trade Quintana for a small army of hitters to help. Sox can absorb Quintana loss a bit more. Who replaces Q in the rotation? No matter what the Sox do, they won't fill all the holes in one off season anyway and trading Q opens a huge void in the rotation. Take Q out of the rotation and the Sox are left with Sale, Rodon, Danks, EJ and ? Montas and Fulmer aren't ready so now the Sox have to spend limited funds on a FA pitcher that will not match Q's numbers all the while making the rotation worse. Not a good idea considering the Sox play 81 games a year in a hitter friendly ball park. The Sox can sign Freese which takes care of 3B for the next two or three years while the Sox develop or trade for a young 3B. They could (speculating) try using some combination of EJ, Montas, Micah, Sanchez, Avi in a trade with the Marlins for Dee Gordon or Marcel Ozuna without taking much of a hit on ML talent. If the Sox got Gordon somehow, he takes SS. If the Sox get Ozuna, he takes over RF. Either way, the lineup and defense improve without the cost of ML talent or losing Q. Point is, there are other options the Sox can explore besides the idea of trading Q. Imo, the Sox are exploring other options and is one reason why they are still forming a plan. Rumors of EJ being on the trade block kinda goes along with what I'm getting at. For the Sox, I think the idea of trading Q is more of a fall back option if they cannot get other plans/ideas to fall into place. I'm not against trading Q, just not as willing as other fans. Just my perspective is all.

Cubs will try to recruit players by not winning

QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Nov 23, 2015 -> 11:26 PM) I think it's a good strategy. I bet a lot of players who have money already, would, all other things being equal, would think it would be cool to be a hero of a franchise for many many many years. It is a good strategy considering they have not won a WS in over 100 years and made it to the NLCS last season. Will the strategy work? Who knows but we'll have a better idea by the end of February. -
QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Nov 24, 2015 -> 06:47 AM) People need to get this through their minds.... The White Sox are not trading Jose Quintana unless someone gives them an offer they cannot refuse including multiple young, controllable offensive assets. The Dodgers can "push" for Q all they'd like in exchange for Puig - there is no way in hell Hahn makes that trade. If he would make that trade, it'd be done already. Please, enough with the Q for Puig garbage. Hey man, I'm with ya. I've said numerous times I don't think the Sox would or should trade Q. The pitching foundation of Sale,Q and Rodon is about as solid as it gets. Add the potential of Fulmer and Montas and it really makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. Imo, Puig and his bulls*** are not a fit for the Sox and I really hope the Sox do not trade for him. There are many other players the Sox can look into in an effort to better the team. Besides, while the Sox could use an upgrade in RF I'd rather focus resources on upgrading 3B, SS, C and to a lesser extent 2B.

QUOTE (scs787 @ Nov 23, 2015 -> 11:01 PM) That's fine. I'm not sold on Ozuna myself. He was good in 2014, but every other year, including in the minors, he's been fairly mediocre. He MIGHT be better than Avi. I think he's better than Avi but I totally understand your not being sold on Ozuna. I think both Ozuna and Puig come with some risk. I think I lean towards Ozuna because I think it's possible to get him without giving up Q whereas the Dodgers likely push for Q in a deal with the Sox.
-
QUOTE (scs787 @ Nov 23, 2015 -> 09:14 PM) Depends on... 1. Which Puig you think you're getting? In his first 2 years he was a top 5 offensive player in the league. 2. Would you rather have a one possible super star or a couple good players? I happen to think Puig is gonna more of the player we saw the first 2 years vs. last year. In that case I don't think you're gonna get a better player than Puig. Now with the state of the Sox, maybe it would be better to go after a few lesser guys. That said, if they can get something like Puig AND Austin Barnes I think that's huge. 2 starters for 1, 1 guy who should be elite and one guy who fills a hole. Guess I'm just not sold on Puig returning to his pre '15 season form. I admit that Puig and Barnes is most interesting though. Another hangup I have with Puig is that if what VanSlyke said is true, its not just Grienke that has/had a problem with Puig but Kershaw as well. I'm hoping the Sox steer clear of that potential train wreck. Still prefer the idea of going after Ozuna.
