Lester + Gomes to OAK for Cespedes
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jul 31, 2014 -> 09:48 AM) No way. His 2015 salary isn't awful and he has two team-friendly options for 2016 & 2017. Trading for Cespedes shows they care about winning in 2015, not to mention Ortiz is the Derek Jeter of Boston, you can't just trade him that easily. I get what you're saying but Boston will need a lot more help than Cespedes and resigning Lester to compete in 2015.

Yanks on Danks
QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jul 31, 2014 -> 09:45 AM) What do the Marlins see in Danks unless we pay for every last dollar? This is exactly what TUC and I were trying to understand last night. It just doesn't make sense but what the hell do I know, its the friggin Marlins.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jul 31, 2014 -> 09:40 AM) Personally no, but I know there is smoke out there on that one. I think they will be too deep in talks to let him ACTUALLY make his start. However that doesnt mean they wont trot him out there for pregame etc to put some pressure on. Gotcha. I guess if a trade happens it will unfold rather quickly over the next two hours or so with a nooner start. Thanks for the input Rock.

QUOTE (LDF @ Jul 30, 2014 -> 07:53 PM) how man, you guys who live in chi are soooo spoiled and rightfully so. I live in sw LA and the only pizza is Little Caesar, Domino or Pizza Hut. now some other places around town has shimp pizza, crawfish pizza and gator. so when I say I miss my different types of food, I think of chi. now my sister made some homemade pizza.... and it was great. it tastes a little of connies or freddy in cicero. only problem is we have yet to perfect the pizza sauce. I really pig out today. damn I miss my home run inn pizza. You know what really dude? Living in the Chicagoland area and not being able to eat pizza due to a really f***ed up digestive system. f*** I miss pizza!

I wonder if Ortiz will be put on the market too. Boston seems to be doing some house cleaning and clearly focusing on next years draft.

Yanks on Danks
QUOTE (DirtySox @ Jul 31, 2014 -> 09:14 AM) I like Oakland's side much more on this. Not super high on Cespedes for 1 year. Same here. Would not be surprised if Boston trades Cespedes this winter. I think the supplemental pick is what Boston was really after, plus Boston has a chance of resigning Lester once he hits FA. Edit: after a minute of thinking, I like Boston's side of this more.

Yanks on Danks
QUOTE (Baron @ Jul 31, 2014 -> 07:57 AM) Welp take Danks off the list No way, never give up! Detroit is looking for a starter so maybe in a strange twist of fate Danks takes the mound for Detroit against the Sox.

Yanks on Danks
QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jul 30, 2014 -> 11:21 PM) Now we're pining for Salty and his .228 batting average? Good lord (I realize he walks some). He also has defensive holes in his game. (Flowers is a better framer, and may be a better thrower too). The grass is always greener........ 2b, RF, and LF are far bigger issues than catcher. A Garcia might fix RF. Johnson might fix 2B. But right now, they are bigger issues. Young talent please. We trade for Salty we have traded for a mediocre catcher. Amazing how people read way to much into things. Nobody is " pining" , just trying to understand why the Marlins are supposed to be interested in Danks and what a potential deal might look like. A team like the Marlins will not take on a salary like Danks unless they move salary in return and that salary would likely be Salty's. By no means do I want Salty. Much prefer a deal with the Yanks.

Do we make a deadline deal?
I'm hoping for a trade with the Yanks involving Danks and Tank/ADA. The Yanks at this point make the most sense.

Yanks on Danks
QUOTE (The Ultimate Champion @ Jul 30, 2014 -> 09:52 PM) I'd make that trade. Of course I'd make just about any trade, trades are awesome. Now the Marlins did eat cash on Ozzie, they did eat cash on Heath Bell, so.... maybe they'd take on a potentially bad deal for a short period and then look to dump it later even if they had to eat cash again? Like, Marlins offer a decent low level prospect the Sox like, the Sox pretty much pay for Danks in 2014, the Marlins then use Danks this year and part of next hoping to dump him while eating $5M or less or so? Those shady f***ers are so cheap you just know they are up to something. I don't buy it though. I just can't. I'm thinking if the Marlins are truly interested the deal would start with Salty and Danks. Maybe the Marlins figure to use Danks for the rest of the season for a playoff push as well as hope like hell Danks pitches well enough to move Danks this winter or like you said sometime next season when their injured pitchers start coming back. What could make a deal more credible is with Salty's injury this year, he ( like Danks) isn't holding much value so it would be an exchange of bad contracts. Sox get a left handed catcher and the Marlins get a pitcher for their playoff push. I would only be willing to eat Danks 2014 salary and that's if the Marlins send a low level prospect back to the Sox. Danks 2015/16 salary is all on the Marlins. The scenerio were talking about would make much more sense if not for the Marlins being the trade partner. I just cannot get past that.

Yanks on Danks
QUOTE (The Ultimate Champion @ Jul 30, 2014 -> 09:30 PM) EMinor I think posted something like $38M as what is owed to Danks. To get that figure in Marlins territory what do we have to eat, $15M+ or more? What could the Marlins possibly send us that would be worth eating that much cash, and why would the Marlins what to part with such a valuable prospect or package of prospects for John Danks of all players? Makes no sense unless the Marlins are not being the Marlins. Maybe they can offer something the Sox like a bit, get the Sox to cover Danks' 2014 salary, and the Marlins think they could dump him later? Makes no sense. It's the baseball chewbacca defense & I am confused. I do not believe the Marlins trade rumors no sir TYVM. It really doesn't make any sense at all. I'm confused too buddy. Initially I thought maybe the Marlins thought process was,if they move Salty to the Sox then technically the Marlins are only taking on roughly 7M more per year by acquiring Danks. Maybe throw in a low level prospect to the Sox and call it a day. But, then what happens with Flowers? Would he be part of the deal or better yet maybe Nieto and the Sox platoon Flowers and Salty? It could kinda sorta in a round about f***ed up way make some kinda half-assed sense, maybe?

Yanks on Danks
Why do I have a very difficult time believing the Marlins are interested in Danks. I doubt the Sox would pick up enough money for the Marlins to bite. I hope I'm wrong but I call bulls***.

Yanks on Danks
QUOTE (LDF @ Jul 30, 2014 -> 11:24 AM) yeh the clubs are prob trying to squeeze out every last opportunity to get more. Yup yup. I'm hoping Lester, Price and Hamels go absolutely nowhere thus giving the Sox a better chance at not only moving Danks but possibly sweeten the return a little.

Sox willing to deal Beckham in "right deal now"

Sox willing to deal Beckham in "right deal now"
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 30, 2014 -> 11:08 AM) LOL, sorry. Beckham just has virtually no value whatsoever at this point. The return you get is a minor leaguer like Sean Bierman - someone who has an idea of how to pitch, but he's low on talent - or Jeff Soptic - a guy who throws hard, has no idea where it's going, and really has nothing else to offer. Like, a 23 or 24 year old Dylan Axelrod would be too much for Beckham right now. First Soptic and now Axelrod? f***! I think I'd rather just DFA Beckham . The open hole could be filled by possibly getting two low level prospects for Danks. At least in theory anyway.

Yanks on Danks
It seems Danks is in a holding pattern til decisions are made on Lester, Price and possibly Hamels. So I think LDF is right about Danks not going anywhere til the last minute, if at all.

Sox willing to deal Beckham in "right deal now"
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 30, 2014 -> 10:56 AM) No, you don't even get a prospect of the caliber of Montas. You get a prospect of the caliber of Jeff Soptic. Thanks Wite. I was having a good morning til you said that. Seriously tho you make a good point. Soptic got us Connor and IMO, Connor at the time of the trade had equal or more value than Beckham now. Nevertheless, thanks for pissing in my cheerios.

Sox willing to deal Beckham in "right deal now"
QUOTE (LDF @ Jul 30, 2014 -> 10:49 AM) yep and I will go on record. it will be me. I like both players esp danks. his family gave up his initial agent (Scott B) in order to get signed by the sox. loyalty. I was hoping you werent offended by that. I really was just speaking over all and nobody in particular. QUOTE (LDF @ Jul 30, 2014 -> 10:50 AM) ohhh YES, great example We can probably Rodon in the mix too as far as examples.

Sox willing to deal Beckham in "right deal now"
QUOTE (LDF @ Jul 30, 2014 -> 10:44 AM) you are prob right .... wishful dreaming..... maybe that is why I added salary help. oh I get it. now I know what you are reading. I meant minor league A prospect, not a graded A prospect. my bad. Something like Montas last year, young and very raw?

Sox willing to deal Beckham in "right deal now"
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 30, 2014 -> 10:40 AM) You get an A prospect for Jose Quintana (plus some). You might get a C- prospect for Gordon Beckham. Agreed. Something tells me that if Danks and Beckham are traded, some fans will be very disappointed with the return. I'm expecting less and hoping for more.

Cole Hamels?
QUOTE (TheFutureIsNear @ Jul 30, 2014 -> 09:17 AM) Lol at our B and C level prospects being too much for a top ten pitcher in baseball with a world series ring and mvp who is controlled for 4 more years at fair market value. How is his contact a hindrance if he's pitching great? If he was on the open market he wouldn't get more than 4 years 90 mil? If Philly really is open to trading him (which I don't believe) they would have a lot better offers than what we could possibly come up with. But with all that said we aren't nearly in a place to be even considering a deal like that and I'm pretty positive Hahn isn't. Right now it isn't but pitchers do regress sometime after the age of 30 so its quite possible Hamels ( 31 in december) will regress and depending on how much he might not be worth that money in just a few years. Also should point out he has logged a lot of innings throughout his career which could scare GM's.
