  1. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 31, 2014 -> 10:53 AM) Wait until the Sox bring him back next year... You're bringing me down man, you're bringing me down...
  2. Let's get Viciedo's bags packed so the Sox can get Semien out there in LF! Come on Hahn, keep it up.
  3. Please let there be truth to this! How desperate are the Giants? Desperate enough to play Dunn at 1B? Kinda makes me think Oakland is a more likely landing spot.
  4. Levine stating the obvious once again in an effort to get people to read his blurbs. Everything he said was already known by most people on this board. Levine should really just go away. Edit: I would be all for signing VM if he hit FA!
  5. I'm thinking Adams is done. He's only 18 and had already pitched for his HS this past spring. Nothing left to do but go back home, rest, recoup, enjoy time with friends, family and get ready for spring 2015. Enjoy young man, you earned it!
  6. QUOTE (scs787 @ Aug 28, 2014 -> 06:20 PM) Guess I should have clicked on tweets and replies lol. Still think I'm wrong and just pulled that s*** outta my ass, but dude is just fresh outta high school, so he's not exactly a grown yet. I can confirm this as I read the same thing earlier today. For anyone that wants to see for their self its an open account to the public. https://mobile.twitter.com/adamswc12 Its his first time away from home and it sounds like he's missing friends and family.
  7. I hope he pitches well and the Sox keep him up. There's no shortage of junk in the pen that can be sent down, then move Carroll back into the pen.
  8. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Aug 28, 2014 -> 11:39 AM) His weak arm is going to hurt the Sox a lot less at 2B than in LF because he actually has to make long throws from the left field corner. Frankly, this post makes a lot more sense when you're talking about Semien. They will get his bat into the lineup wherever they can and he's shown the ability to handle it. When you have players who seem pretty confined to their positions - Johnson at 2B, Sanchez between 2B and SS, Gillaspie at 3B - you find the one who can move and you do just that. If Semien comes up and plays full time, I don't think anyone's going to care where he plays. If he plays a full season's worth of games next year, but 90 come in LF, 5 in CF, 8 in RF, 27 at 3B, 6 at SS, and 11 at 2B, is anyone going to be upset? But, if Semien is the one who proves he can handle the outfield over the others, then he's the one who's going to do that role. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 28, 2014 -> 11:45 AM) wite answered for me. Moving Micah is appealing only on the very surface. When you dig deeper, it really doesn't anymore. I must admit, you guys make a lot of sense and I can appreciate the insightful discussion. This discussion has raised a few questions I'm really unsure about and I think you guys and others can help. 1- let's say Micah plays 2B and Semien plays LF in 2015. Where do they hit in the batting order? 2- where does Anderson play when he's ready? QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Aug 28, 2014 -> 12:14 PM) The last prospect that Hawk was obsessed with was C.J. Retherford. He hit .201 in AAA before playing Independent ball the following year. Oh man, I had forgotten about CJ. Let's hope Micah has better luck.
  9. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 28, 2014 -> 10:11 AM) I wish people would leave the move-Micah-to-the-OF thing alone. The ONLY reason it is brought up is because of his speed. He's never played there, and has a hard enough time with the glove at 2B, and you want him to change positions? His arm isn't great either. Plus with his elbow issues, as we've discussed before, they are likely caused by poor throwing mechanics. So he's a greater injury risk in the OF than at 2B. Just doesn't make sense to do it. Semien, on the other hand, COULD be a corner OF. He's got a good arm, enough speed, he's played there a bit this year, and they want to get his bat in the lineup. Micah was speculated to go to the outfield due to the log jam in the MI, his under average defense at second and yes his speed could help him become a solid outfielder if he can get good reads and jumps which he's plenty young enough to learn. Take a look at Viciedo and DeAza, they are a joke out there. I see no reason why Micah could not be better than both with a little time and patience for him to learn LF. His weak arm could hurt the Sox more at 2B than LF as its going to be used more often at 2B and be a weakness on DP's as well. Moving Micah to the outfield makes too much sense.
  10. QUOTE (ptatc @ Aug 28, 2014 -> 09:28 AM) I'm not too sure that they are better propsects. Regardless of we think, I heard an interview with RH. He repeated commented on shutting Johnson down this year because he is such an explosive player and incredible talent that they want to make sure he is ready for next. He will have the first shot at 2B. This is a classic case of scouting vs. Stats. Semien and Sanchez have put up better numbers in the minors but scouts love the pure talent of johnson. Guess I'm just not seeing what all the hype is about but hey, I'm no scout by an means. Its actually really cool were having these discussions. Just a few years ago the Sox really did not have any MI prospects to discuss and now there are three legit prospects with Anderson about a year behind them, maybe less. Big turn around in a short period of time.
  11. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Aug 28, 2014 -> 09:23 AM) So if Semien were in LF and Micah at 2B, it'd be ok? They can't be flipped? Or Anderson down the line? Exactly. If Micah could learn to get good reads in the OF, his speed could be quite valuable defensively and improve the overall OF defense. More helpful than his current defense at 2B. As for Anderson. Same thing. He could end up in the OF due to average arm strength and plus plus speed. Anderson is a bit different in that he brings some power into the mix, especially gap power. Here what BA said about Anderson on draft day 2013. "He has followed up by showing solid power this spring to go with his other prodigious tools. Anderson stands out in a draft class light on middle infielders. Scouts aren't sold that he'll stick at shortstop thanks to average arm strength. He has middle-infield actions and needs repetition at the pro level to see where he'll stick. His athleticism and plus-plus speed would play in center field."
  12. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 28, 2014 -> 09:10 AM) Hawk already is obsessed with the kid. This could be a bad sign for Micah. Kiss of death?
  13. QUOTE (ptatc @ Aug 28, 2014 -> 09:02 AM) Johnson is the favored prospects of the Sox for the MI. He will get first shot at 2B next year. Of the three he is the worst defensively, not that he cannot improve. He is also the least effective base stealer (66%) of the three despite having all that speed. If he doesn't learn to take good care of those legs he will be the utility player for the Sox while cheering on the Sanchez/ Semien double play combo. Just because Merkin has proclaimed Micah the 2B next year doesn't mean squat really. I think too many people are getting caught up in Merkin's hype on Johnson. Pound for pound, IMO, Sanchez and Semien both are better prospects than Johnson and younger as well.
  14. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Aug 28, 2014 -> 08:44 AM) White Sox can't and won't have Micah Johnson and Adam Eaton in the same outfield. And you know this how?
  15. A few months ago I was working with a cub fan that just loved to talk about anything cub related. One day he asked what I thought about the the cubs prospects. Cub fan : what do you think of our prospects Me: I don't Cub fan: ( confused look) what do you mean you don't? Me: again, I don't Cub fan: ( more confused now) I don't understand Me: of course you don't. You know I'm a Sox fan so why would I give a f*** about the cubs prospects? Hence my response, I DONT. Meaning I don't think anything of them, those are prospects for your favorite team and not mine. I follow the Sox prospects, savy? Cub fan: ( even more confused than ever) but why? Me: (sigh) so is it supposed to rain this afternoon? Not to take anything away from the cubs prospects but, I honestly could care less. Following one major league team and trying to keep up with its prospects is more than enough for me so forgive me for not answering the posted question. Oh yeah, GO SOX!
  16. And with the likelyhood of another high or at least higher draft slot in 2015 they will need some funds for that as well. Not that the Sox won't have money to spend.
  17. QUOTE (beautox @ Aug 27, 2014 -> 03:46 PM) He is en fuego. Nearly has a BB/K% of 1 thats incredible. Post ASB he is hitting .299/.419/.528 - .947. I would really love to see both him and Sanchez starting the MI next season with Semien batting 2nd. After being sent down and taking some lumps at the ML level, personally I am ready to see the sox stick with him in a full time role and letting him work through any issues in Chicago. Both Johnson and Davidson wouldn't be stunted by another go around at AAA. Agreed although I think you and I are in the minority but that's fine with me. Of the three I think Sanchez should be the guy at SS with Marcus at 2B, provided Alexei was traded this winter which I think could very well happen. Davidson seriously needs to just go home and take time off from this brutal season he has had. Just let this horrible season be over for the poor guy already. I would not even call him up in September. Johnson, IMO, is the odd man out because of his defense. I would love to see the Sox try to convert him to a CF or LF and your suggestion of starting him off in AAA would allow time for that to happen. Plus time in ST as well. Nest season is going to be more interesting if Anderson picks up where he left off for Birmingham. He continues that next year he might play his way onto Charlotte's roster. But I shouldn't get too far ahead here. Its awesome that this team at from almost no infield aspects just a few years ago to having four guys worth getting excited over. Not that it means they all will work out but worth some excitement never the less.
  18. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Aug 27, 2014 -> 02:37 PM) Quick hands. He's really, really good. He is. Marcus struggled for a while after he was sent to Charlotte but has poured it on big time. June .188 July .286 August .349 For anyone interested, here's his splits. http://www.milb.com/player/index.jsp?sid=t...ing/2014/MINORS
  19. Semien 2/3 with 2 2B 1BB 1K. Average up to .271! Gotta find some room for his bat in the lineup.
  20. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Aug 27, 2014 -> 11:26 AM) Homer Bailey for Jermaine Dye! For the record, I was all for that deal.
  21. I can see looking into a guy like Latos. Not sure how well the Sox could compete with other teams (prospects) that would be interested. I'm thinking Latos will draw interest from a lot of teams.
  22. Shouldn't this be determined after all 162 games have been played? I'll vote in a little over a month from now.

If the So are going to take on a high dollar contract of a right handed hitting OF, that name should be Kemp, not Upton. BJ runs like Justin and hits like Kate. No thank you. I would honestly rather keep Danks and his contract over BJ's. The Sox don't have the best pedigree for turning bats around so I would not count on that either. Edit: take note that even the cubs weren't crazy enough to make a deal that included Upton's contract.
  24. QUOTE (robinventura23 @ Aug 27, 2014 -> 10:02 AM) Adam Dunn first game Leury Garcia second game QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 27, 2014 -> 10:05 AM) They're allowed to do a one-game callup that doesn't hit the 40 man. But Hahn said no to Rodon. My suggestion, since the Sox are not competing anyway: Matt Zaleski. He's the only pitcher - ever, as far as I can tell - to play 11 seasons in just one organization and never make the majors. And he's actually been decent in AAA. Give him a start, save the MLB arms. I like the idea of starting Zaleski. Rienzo just pitched last night so I doubt he would be the guy. So, start Zaleski in game one with Dunn and Leury as relievers.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 27, 2014 -> 09:06 AM) If we're after Heyward, it's crazy to trade for him. Free agent after next season, seems extremely unlikely to sign a long term extension before that since no one seems to know what to make of him. After thinking about I think you're right about this Balta. Weren't the Braves trying to sign him longer last winter and he only agreed to a deal that covered his arbitration years? The only way this could work would be if the Sox had a negotiation window with him to work out a long term deal like what they did with sweaty Freddy. I admit this is highly doubtful.
