  1. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Nov 5, 2017 -> 08:28 PM) I also think it's a smart move by Tanaka because he never would have gotten $67 million over the next 3 seasons anywhere else either. Perhaps but I'm not so sure with the way teams throw money at FA starting pitchers. Look what Samardzija got coming off his worst season which was 5/90.
  2. Well this sucks. Marlins are expected to put Marcel Ozuna on the market. Not good for those interested in trading Avi. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2017/11/look...zuna-trade.html
  3. Two ways of looking at Avi from a fans pov. 1) fan is sold on Avi's succeful '17 season, want to keep him and extend him. 2) fan is not really sold on Avi and will trade him this winter. I'm starting to lean towards taking a good old #2 on the subject of Avi.
  4. Can't say I'm a fan of sitting Delmonico for A.Gonzalez, or keeping Avi along with signing Dyson to a multi-year deal. What happens when Eloy is ready? Where does he fit in? Also not a fan of trading Fulmer for Franco and sitting Sanchez on the bench. See no point in having Grandal for one year either, let Narvaez continue us to work with the pitchers next season. One more season of Narvaez won't hurt and gives the Sox more time to work with Collins and Zavala in the minors.
  5. QUOTE (Dam8610 @ Nov 5, 2017 -> 12:13 AM) I'm guessing someone like a Bo Bichette would be too ambitious for an Avi return? Might be. Bichette had such a good season he might pass Vlad Jr to become Toronto's #1prospect. Edit: that's probably a bit of a stretch but I think Bichette is closer to Vlad Jr in ranks than he was before the '17 season began.
  6. QUOTE (35thstreetswarm @ Nov 3, 2017 -> 10:03 AM) As with the Cubs in November 2016, it now seems to be accepted wisdom on sports talk radio that nobody can realistically hope to compete with the Astros for the next 3, 4, 5 seasons. After all, they just won the World Series, and will bring back basically the same team. Pencil them in, since that's how it always works in baseball. The cubs and Astros are a bit different though. The Astros still have a very healthy farm with both pitchers and position players to rely on in the future, the cubs farm is back to being a barren wasteland. This doesn't mean the Astros will win out year after year but they have a better chance than the cubs. Luhnow deserves alot of credit for the way he and his scouts built that team for now and the future.
  7. Blue Jays declined Bautista's option today. Kinda wonder if Toronto would be interested in Avi.
  8. Reminds da me a bit of a LH Matt Davidson, not that it's a bad thing. Plenty of spots to audition for so welcome to the White Sox, Palka.
  9. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Nov 4, 2017 -> 05:05 PM) Yanks, Boston and Dodgers have very serious luxury tax concerns. It's not just $$. If you are over the tax you lose international money and you have to give up a 2nd an 5th rounder to sign any free agent given a QO. I think teams like the Cardinals and Phillies are most likely. Agree about Boston and LA but as of now, the Yanks 2018 payroll is speculated to be about 150M after all salary obligations are tallied up. Bare in mind they did have some salary come off the books with the biggest being Sabathia's 25M, which opens up just enough room for Stanton. I'm starting to think the Yanks jump into the mix for Stanton and have a better chance than Boston, STL and Philly at landing him. They could start a trade offer with Clint Frazier and go from there without asking for much money from the Marlins. https://www.baseball-reference.com/teams/NY...contracts.shtml Read the Gammons piece again. It's very contradictory in that it relies on Mozeliak to take on big salary, which he has publicly stated he's not a fan of, and requires the Marlins to eat some of Stanton's salary, which the Marlins do not want to do. Plus, Stanton has said he prefers to play on either coast which doesn't bode well for the Cards and Stanton would need to approve of the trade. I've always liked Gammons but I think he's full of s*** on this one. That being said. This could be a good thing if the Cards were genuinely interested in Avi at the trade deadline. Once Stanton finds his knew home, the Cards could turn their attention to Avi. I still have my doubts on their interest but it's the off season so there's nothing wrong with entertaining the idea.
  10. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2017/11/late...lo-stanton.html Interesting read but Gammons article is a bit contradictory. Starting to doubt the Cards could really land Stanton since it would take so many things to line up. Would be easier for a team like Boston or even the Yanks to step in and make an offer without asking for much money, if any, in return.
  11. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2017/11/masa...f-contract.html I think it's a smart move by Tanaka sticking with his team that made it to the ALCS. Wonder if the Yanks use Tanaka to try and lure Darvish to NY?
  12. Looks like Palka can hit left handed pitchers. Davidson might have some competition for DH in ST.
  13. QUOTE (GreatScott82 @ Nov 3, 2017 -> 02:03 PM) I understand the logic of the Cards keeping their man. And the Stanton rumors are very interesting. However, if they fail to get him, I can definitely see them still being interested in Avi. Let’s not forget he was #2 in the AL in average next to Altuve. (That is crazy, I know!) I guess I just don't see the Cards being interested in Avi despite his average. But hey, I hope I'm wrong and the Cards are willing to trade O'Neill or Bader + for Avi. Really like O'Neill's LHB and power despite the K's. Edit: for some reason I thought O'Neill was a LHB, nope, he's right handed.
  14. Does Justin speak a little Spanish? Would help in the long term.
  15. QUOTE (GreatScott82 @ Nov 3, 2017 -> 11:02 AM) Didn't the Cardinals kick the tires on Avi in July? They do have interest. Carson Kelly is currently blocked by Molina, who is signed thru 2020. It doesn't seem to be that big of a stretch to see them deal him for slugging outfielder. The Cards were also rumored to be after Stanton as well. Seeing as how their outfield is loaded plus they have Bader and O'Neill, there's two ways they likely go about this. 1) they will trade a few current outfielders to open up space for Bader and O'Neill or 2) they use a current outfielder along with one of Bader/O'Neil to get Stanton from the Marlins. I doubt they have interest in Avi, at all. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Nov 3, 2017 -> 11:45 AM) I think it would be unwise of the Cardinals to expect Molina to remain completely healthy until he is 38 years old. There are a lot of miles on those legs. Yep. Keeping Kelly gives the Cards a solid backup catcher to Molina while Kelly learns from the best in the game. They could get creative against LHSP and give Carpenter the day off, have Yadi play first with Kelly behind the plate. No reason to move Kelly, especially for Avi.
  16. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Nov 3, 2017 -> 12:02 AM) I would guess that there are at least 5 (and probably more) prospects in the minors that they will have to add to the 40...the pitcher they got from the Yankees comes immediately to mind. But there are a lot of names on that 40 that they could easily let go in order to protect some prospects. Yeah, I don't know the status of every player as far as options and who needs to be protected but players such as Ian Clarkin (yanks pitcher), Micker Adolfo and Tito Polo I think will be added. Players that could end up being removed, if necessary, are Jacob May, Allen Hanson, Willy Garcia, AL Albuquerque and Danny Farquhar. Isn't the rule 5 draft at the end of the winter meetings?
  17. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Nov 2, 2017 -> 10:39 PM) Do you have a link to the 40 man? Thanks http://m.whitesox.mlb.com/cws/roster/40-man/
  18. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Nov 2, 2017 -> 03:14 PM) They might. But I think it would be for a few 2nd tier prospects..nothing elite. As for the Sox, I'd hope we'd go for a more athletic team. Same here. I don't think the Sox are interested. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 2, 2017 -> 04:06 PM) If I were the Marlins, I'd be looking at a guy in the 50-75 range as the centerpiece if I was going to move him, and I think there's enough interest I could at least get a top 100 guy from someone. There have to be 4-5 teams we've mentioned as interested so far. If the price doesn't involve a top 100 guy, then I think even more teams would jump in and you'd have 8-10 teams willing to roll the dice on that contract. Especially since this looks like a weak free agency year. That kind of market should push the price up. Guys. Wasn't there a recent rumor that speculated Groome and/or Chavis would could used to acquire Stanton? Don't remember where I had read it. Maybe posted in this thread for all I know, lol.
  19. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Nov 2, 2017 -> 10:14 PM) must be feeling ok: quinto doble Definitely looks like Eloy knows how to go with a pitch. Nice job of slicing that pitch on the outer half of the plate down the RF line for a 2B.
  20. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Nov 2, 2017 -> 06:01 PM) QFT & FIFY Lol, I was trying to be nice.
  21. QUOTE (ChiliIrishHammock24 @ Nov 2, 2017 -> 04:54 PM) My girlfriend has Schwarber's number. I constantly pressure her to ridicule him via text. But instead, she is in love with him. Time for a new GF dude.
  22. Some of those predictions make little sense to me at this point. I know there's always some unforeseen signings but damn.
  23. Jack Parkman absolutely hit this out of the park.
  24. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Nov 2, 2017 -> 02:27 PM) But that's not the deal you are getting with him. If he sucks after 3 years, you have to pay him for an extra 8. thus, any deal must be severely discounted. If he had only that 3 year contract, it would be much easier to set a market rate. But he doesn't. These bashers who are slugs defensively aren't my cup of tea anyway. Don't forget who the Boston GM is now, Dave Dombrowski. Look at the condition he left the Tigers and look at the direction Boston is heading. DD is a baseball Terra-forming machine.
  25. QUOTE (ChiliIrishHammock24 @ Nov 2, 2017 -> 01:28 PM) Well obviously, that's what an rational person who didn't have emotional attachments to him would do. But Theo is obsessed with Schwarber. He's his "told you so!" guy. He refuses to believe everyone who says he's just a DH. He is on record calling him "Babe f***ing Ruth". Theo is more likely to trade Rizzo or Bryant than he is Schwarber. I don't deny Theo's love for The Schwab but come on now. But hey, if Theo loves him that much then by all means they can have him and go ahead and trade Happ, which I doubt they do if they are able to move Heyward somehow.
